The Midwifery Management Process is asystematic approach of problem-solvingwhich is based on scientific principles and

ASSESSMENT

First step of the MMP

Consists systematic and orderly collectionand analysis of data pertaining to the

health status of the client for the purposeof identifying needs, problems or making amidwifery diagnosis

Forms of Data to be collected

1. Subjective data:

Chief complaint, personal data, familyhistory, past and present obstetrichistory, socioeconomic, nutritional,psychological, and her perception ofpregnancy and childbirth

1. Objective data:

Includes; findings from the physicalexamination, laboratory findings, andother investigations.

Midwifery Diagnosis

Involves analysis of collected data to comeup with actual and at risk problems.

It expresses the midwife's professional

and clinical judgment about individualfamily and community responses to act

It forms the basis of selection of midwiferyinterventions to achieve outcomes forwhich the midwife is accountable.

The midwife plans the care to be renderedto the client.

The midwife develops the midwifery care

plan:- A written document which is designed toguide the midwife in providing quality care.

Listed according to priority. High priority

involves the clients urgent needs

2. Goals of care

The desired change in the health statusof the client.

Provides exact interventions required toachieve both short and long term goals.

4. Rationale

The midwife should have a justification

for each intervention carried out.

Monitoring of midwifery interventionsor orders.

Putting into action or carrying out theinterventions selected in the midwiferycare plan.

The planned activities can be done by themidwife directly, by the client and herfamily or the physician.

Mrs Thabwa is a 20 years old primgravida. Shereports to the labour ward at term gestationwith complaints of lower abdominal pains andbackache since yesterday. On examn, she looksanxious, and exhausted. T. 37c, p. 88, R.28.BP 120/80. contractions are 2 moderate in 10minutes and cervix is 4 cm dilated. Using the
