“The meaning and scope of school administration and supervision”
Report Number 2
By Sebastian Serrano Ayala
Planning is one of the most important and a valuable element in the responsibility of
being an administrator or supervisor, even though it is just the beginning of the process of
leading but it constitutes an essential, perhaps this is the ability that needs more time to be
developed and accomplished. The rest of the administration process is summarized in the way
how the plan, which has been already developed, is operated or applied in the institution and
how it is finally evaluated: planning, managing and evaluating are the major responsibilities of
the administrator.
The results of the administration should be measure on the achievement of the
different goals and the improvement of the previous disadvantages or unachieved previous
objectives, but also importantly, on the contribution to favorable environments: starting from
school materials up to the relationship with the educational community including teachers,
students, parents, workers, visitors, etc.
Administration involves also supervision, which is concentrated on the idea of
improvement, evaluation, stimulation, criticize, admire, and appreciate. The supervision
should be approached with the interest of studying and analyzing the different situations of
the educational process in order to improve the instruction of teachers. It is not the work and
the goal of one person or a small group of administrators, the supervision involves the
complete set employees.
Fatka, Nada (1963) mentions that “good supervision depends on a supervisor who
recognizes that varying degrees of anxiety accompany difficult and unfamiliar assignments;
who is involved with her students; and who believes that all the potential for growth and
development”.
The “LondonDeanery” (2012), an electronic program for learning, defends that
supervision is a professional conversation that may take place informally over a snatched
break or during a quick chat with a colleague in their office, or formally in designated teaching
sessions/tutorials or team meetings. Supervision can be defined in many different ways but is
essentially a conversation between professionals at all levels of experience, not only for
people in training. Supervision is aimed at promoting learning, reflective practice and
improving patient safety and the quality of patient care.
As Christians we are called to be wised with the gifts of life, the time, the skills have
gave us, and a complete program of improvement, evaluation and prediction will certainly
support the Go’s will for us. This is what Peter wrote for the Christian leaders:
“I am writing to encourage you. I too am a leader, as well as a witness to Christ’s
suffering, and I will share in his glory when it is shown to us. Just as shepherds watch
over their sheep, you must watch over everyone God has placed in your care.
Do it willingly in order to please God, and not simply because you think you must. Let it
be something you want to do, instead of something you do merely to make money.
Don’t be bossy to those people who are in your care, but set an example for them.
Then when Christ the Chief Shepherd returns, you will be given a crown that will never
lose its glory. All of you young people should obey your elders. In fact, everyone
should be humble toward everyone else. The Scriptures say, “God opposes proud
people, but he helps everyone who is humble.” Be humble in the presence of God’s
mighty power, and he will honor you when the time comes. God cares for you, so turn
all your worries over to him.
Be on your guard and stay awake. Your enemy, the devil, is like a roaring lion, sneaking
around to find someone to attack. But you must resist the devil and stay strong in your
faith. You know that all over the world the Lord’s followers are suffering just as you
are. But God shows undeserved kindness to everyone. That’s why he appointed Christ
Jesus to choose you to share in his eternal glory. You will suffer for a while, but God will
make you complete, steady, strong, and firm. God will be in control forever! Amen.
Silvanus helped me write this short letter, and I consider him a faithful follower of the
Lord. I wanted to encourage you and tell you how kind God really is, so that you will
keep on having faith in him. Greetings from the Lord’s followers in Babylon. They are
God’s chosen ones. Mark, who is like a son to me, sends his greetings too. Give each
other a warm greeting. I pray that God will give peace to everyone who belongs to
Christ.
