“Lubricity” refers to the effectiveness of a lubricant to reduce friction. The Lubricity Test, therefore, is a comparative test of various brands of engine lubricants to determine which is the most effective friction modifier.

The Lubricity Testing Equipment basically comprise of a rotatingbearing (driven by an electric motor), which is in direct contact with a stationary bearing. The pressure at the point of contact between the two bearing is controlled by stacking metal plates (each weighing approximately 1.5 lbs).

3 different brands of lubricants were tested : Brands A & B, both of which are the leading brands of engine oil locally, and the Xrev ZeroFrictionTM Metal Treatment Formula.

Brand A was the first to be tested. The lubricant was applied liberally over the rotating bearing.

The device is then switched on, causing the rotating bearing to rotate.

The metal plates are then added one at a time. With 3plates on the stack, the rotating bearing seized up.

The stationary bearing was then removed from the device and examined.

The result was that quite a large depression was made on the stationary bearing (Brand A).

This time, when the device was switched on, and the metal plates were added, one at a time, the rotating bearing seized up when the 4th metal plate was placed on the stack.

With the device switched on, the metal plates were continually added until all 12 metal plates were placed on the stack – and the rotating bearing was still rotating! Simply Amazing!

Unlike the previous tests, there wasn’t a depression – only a slight nick just visible to the naked eye!

In this side-by-side comparison, it is clear that the bearing on the extreme right (testing Xrev ZeroFrictionTM Formula) suffered the least friction during the test even with all 12 metal plates load on the testing device (compared to 3-4 metal plates in the same tests for Brands A & B respectively).
