P rayer for Our Troops Around the World

“Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. We ask this

in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.” We especially remember Michael Clark, James Gaffney, Kurt Hellauer, Nolan Johnson, Timothy Nolan, Trevor Powers, Jeff Sirois and Leslie Willey.

We remember in prayer those who are ill and pained in body, heart and mind. We commend to our Divine Lord all of our aged people and those residing in nursing homes. Please pray for Maria Calandrello and Hannah Davies.

A Mass of Remembrance for children who have died through miscarriage, stillbirth, or in early childhood will be held on Saturday, November 8th at 9:30am in St. Augustine Church. All are welcome, especially parents and families who want to honor their children and heal from the tremendous pain of their passing. Those attending will have the opportunity to acknowledge their children by bringing remembrance cards with their names on them to the Altar. Home made cards are welcome or blank cards will be provided at the Mass. Afterwards, a basket filled with the cards will be brought to the Monastery of St. Clare in Andover where the nuns will keep the basket in their chapel, remembering the children and their families in prayer throughout November. ALL-PARISH NEWS Youth Ministry Prayer Night this Tuesday, November 4th 7:30-8:30pm. Theme: Finding Quiet. Juniors and seniors who are assisting are asked to arrive at 7pm. Second Grade Parent Meeting - There is a mandatory parent meeting on Wednesday, November 5th from 7 – 8 pm in the church for parents of second grade St. Augustine School and Religious Education students who will be receiving the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion in 2015. The topic of discussion will be their upcoming First Reconciliation in January with a handout distributed. Please make every effort to attend. Friday November 7th is the next Senior Ministry luncheon in the Parish center immediately following the 10:30am School Mass. Please RSVP Geraldine Rourke 978-475-2382, or Irene Potvin 978-686-5721 by Wednesday November 5th. We are continuing our support of the Pregnancy Care Center and are seeking donations of Enfamil, infant powder (yellow can), baby food stages 1-3, juices, cereal, and new baby bottles. We will be collecting items and donations at every luncheon throughout the year. Thank you for your support.

Thanksgiving Pie Sale - Thanksgiving Pies from Mann Orchards in Methuen are now available to order through St Augustine School. A wide selection of pies can be pre-ordered and will be available for collection from the Assembly Hall in the Parish Center on Wednesday November 26th from 10-11:30am. All the pies are 10” and cost $11.50 each. Order forms can be downloaded from the school website under the News section and should be returned to the school office with payment no later than Friday, November 14, 2014.

The annual Senior Ministry Thanksgiving Dinner is on Saturday, November 15th at 1:30 pm. The donation for the dinner will be $12/person (assistance available). Please RSVP Patsy Gurry at 978-475-1508. A Liturgical Ministry Open House will be held on Sunday, November 16th 2-4 pm in the parish center. While each liturgical celebration relies on the joyful participation of all those present, many ministers are involved to ensure that the proper reverence and beauty are achieved and maintained. These include lectors, extraordinary ministers of holy communion, musicians, altar servers, hospitality ministers, and those involved in decorating our worship spaces. God has blessed each of us with unique gifts - come meet our ministers and discover how you might use yours to serve in the work of God. Christmas Eve masses at the Collins Center - For the past two years we have successfully celebrated Christmas Eve Mass at the Collins Center at Andover High School. This year Mass at the Collins Center will be at both 4pm and 6pm. Our success is only possible with the help of Liturgical Ministers and many others. Volunteers are especially needed to help behind the scenes with decorations, set up and break down for the masses. If you are interested in helping in these areas, please contact Monica Gallacher at [email protected]. The parish-wide Annual Turkey Dinner Drive is underway. Please bring food donations to the parish center - for a list of what's needed, visit www.staugustineparish.org/turkey-dinner. Frozen turkeys should be dropped off ONLY on Monday, November 24th.

Dear Parishioners, November 1, 2014 Together with the Parish Finance Council and Parish Pastoral Council, l am pleased to present to you the

Annual Report on Saint Augustine Parish for the fiscal year July 1, 2013-June 30, 2014. As you know, the numbers can only tell part of the story. Our strength as a faith community is best experienced and measured by the ways we express and experience love of God and love of our neighbor. We are all very grateful for all the good work done by our excellent parish and school staff, the valuable, prayerful guidance given by our Parish Pastoral Council, Finance Council and the School Finance Committee and School Advisory Board. This year we are pleased to have welcomed Sister Madonna to full-time ministry as Pastoral Associate with particular responsibility for Adult Education and Faith Formation and newly-ordained Permanent Deacon Michael Curren. In addition to the financial reports presented here, I offer for your review the following statistics with comparison for the last three years.

Since our successful increased offertory campaign in 2010 we have set a goal for the weekly offertory at $20,000. Currently we are averaging around $17,162. This could be better…and it could be worse! If you are not already using the On-line Offertory system, I encourage you to do so. It really helps to have your regular, planned financial support. You have also given a grand total of $56,591.62 in the various special collections throughout the year. This shows your love of neighbor extending well beyond our immediate neighborhoods. Thank you! As you can see, we have been able to stay within our budgets. This is due to everyone’s good efforts.

Our efforts in the Annual Archdiocesan Appeal brought us over the assessment ($80,418) again this year and will entitle us to a helpful rebate of $15,000! More importantly, we exceeded again the number of donors participating in the Annual Appeal from the previous year. This says to me that we are deepening our awareness of our identity as responsible members of the larger church. Well done! Our Grand Annual Parish Collection, the “G.A.P.” ($41,000) has also been growing.

St. Augustine Parish School is strong and well managed, for which we are justly proud and grateful. High quality, Catholic education is the daily fare for over 450 joyful children. As we gratefully celebrate the 100th anniversary of our parish school, we are all duly excited with the progress on the James D. Doherty Centennial Gymnasium. Cardinal Seán will be with us on December 5th to bless the cornerstone and celebrate Mass with the children. The fund-raising for this project continues and the debt expected to be incurred will be manageable given your school’s strong position.

We happily finished paying off the 7-year old debt on the Center for Education and Ministry ($4.5 million) and gleefully burned the mortgage this past summer. As of this writing we have 1016 Public School children enrolled in our excellent Religious Education program.

As things look now we can expect to be in one of the later phases of the implementation of Disciples in Mission, the Pastoral Plan for the Archdiocese which will link Saint Augustine and Saint Robert Parishes in a Collaborative for Andover. This would likely be in 2019. Meanwhile, we must all continue to share the faith and be good, welcoming witnesses to our faith. As you can see our Mass attendance numbers continue to decline over these past three years, even though the number of registered households is increasing.

Saint Augustine Parish is only as good as we make it together, with God’s help. Please, spread the good word about Saint Augustine’s and invite others to join us for Sunday worship, education and in all ways.

Thank you for all your generous support and cooperation. God bless you! Fr. Peter G. Gori, O.S.A., Pastor

Finance Council: Bill Reghitto, Jon Stumpf, Erik Eldracher, Rick Crowley, Sam Conte and Karen Miller.
