THE LONG RUN
MEMBER:
Wed., June 25, 2014
is FARC founder Paul “Bud” Fitch (2nd in his age
group) and his family of runners: including sons
Tim (1st in his age group) and Ryan (who paced
his father, “Bud”), all in the 5K, and grandson
Greyson, 5, 1st finisher under 8 in the ½-Mile.
Bud was FARC’s 1st President 30+ years ago,
and was a long-time club board member who
lives on the St. Paddy’s Day race course, and
epitomizes the FARC family spirit in every way.

Jeffrey’s Dad, Tom serves as FARC board
member, has a wife, Maryann and 6 kids, 4 of
whom have won FARC club scholarships. One
son, Ron, graduated from West Point earlier this
year. The ‘FARC family’ is so proud of all.

photographer, Michael Bergum
Michael is the young man behind the camera at
nearly every FARC race. Mike’s brother Nate
(CPA) was once club race photographer and
designed FARC’s web-site. Mike’s Dad, Jim, is
FARC VP & Webmaster, produces FARC Flashes
and was 2nd in his age group in today’s race.
Mother Janet also serves on the club’s executive
board as Club Secretary and you will always see
her around the registration table and finish line
where her efforts help ensure smooth operation
in these all-important areas of race
management. Feel free to go to the website to
sign up and volunteer – you’ll be glad you did!.

FARC was blessed with good
weather in Summer of 2014,
conducive to battling other
runners, not the elements!
At right above, as in Week 1,
Evan Bush (age: 16) Won, 18:51
Kristin, 1st woman; friend Luke Fisher; Dad: Bob Kristin Andrews, 20:43, a senior
counselor for “Gone Running”
this time by 80 seconds. Kristin, a
top 400M and 800M competitor at Manalapan
HS and St. Joes’ College in Philly, is about the 4th
generation of a family of Olympians, Top
Athletes and Champions: Her great uncle, Bobby
(Thomson) was the fleet Centerfielder who hit
the “Shot Heard Round the World” for the NY
Giants in 1951 off the Brooklyn Dodgers’ Ralph
Branca to put the Giants into the world Series
against the cross-town rivals, Casey Stengel’s
mighty Yankees (featuring Joe DiMaggio).
Kristin’s Dad, Bobby, long-time coach, was a rare
sub-1:50 880-yard (or 800-meter) man in
~1980. Kristin’s brother, Robby Andrews was a
national champion setting 2 national indoor
records (800M & 1,000M) while at Manalapen
HS (2005-2009), and once again a multiple
national NCAA title holder both indoors &
outdoors at the University of Virginia, has raced
professionally & been ranked in the top 5
nationally in the 800M & 1500M. We look
forward to following Robby and his race exploits.

5 K…..Won by Alejandro
Sanchez (37): 18:48, and Kristin
Andrews (25) for women: 20:33 The local Spector family has supported FARC
events for years. Liz, a product of
Manalapan High School a few years
ago has run most FARC events since -
always with that infectious FARC smile
no matter the terrain or stage of the
race. She handily won her 30-39 age
group with a strong 24:08 in this race, while her
sons Will (14) and Kyle (12) were #1 & #2 in
their 14 & under age group at 20:56 & 23:52
(was Kyle trying to help out Mom here?)
Seriously, watch out for Will & Kyle at the
competitive level in high school for years to
come. Their husband/father has been
instrumental in FARC’s success at numerous
flashlight/moonlight races at the Man. Rec. Ctr.

this race from FARC bd. mbr. Bill

T&F of NJ, and he has long been
active in the regional track & field
scene, competing for Shore AC as a versatile and
talented athlete. He had been instrumental in
publicity of FARC races. Dave is in the FARC Hall
of Fame (a.k.a. Foyer of Distinction). He’s
ensured the production of the LONG RUN
newsletter for a decade, providing quality and
extending the life of a newsletter that was
proposed to be discontinued years ago, keeping
it on life-support or better, ever since.
