Midweek MovieThe Midweek Movie for Wednesday, January 2,

is The Giver starring Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep, and Brenton Thwaites. Set in a seemingly utopian future where all war, emotion, and personal freedom have been eradicated, the film follows Jonas (Thwaites), a young man who is chosen to be the recipient of the community’s collective memories. As he learns the details of the community’s history from “The Giver” (Bridges), he grows frustrated with the power those in charge hold over his fellow citizens and the ter-rible price they have been forced to pay in exchange for conformity and peace. This 2014 sci-fi drama is 1 hour and 33 minutes long and will be shown at 11:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel. Rated PG-13 for a mature thematic image and some sci-fi ac-tion/violence. This movie will compliment the Book Review on Thursday, January 3.

Book ReviewGene Coppola, Director of the Palm Harbor

Library, will present a Book Review on Thursday, January 3, at 1:30 p.m. in the 2nd Floor Lounge. He will review the book, “The Giver” by Lois Lowry.

Twelve-year-old Jonas lives in a seemingly ideal world. Not until he is given his life assignment as the Receiver does he begin to understand the dark secrets behind this fragile community.

Ladies LuncheonThe next Ladies Luncheon will be Thursday, Jan-

uary 3, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Banquet Room. The guest speaker will be Doug Fresh, our CEO, and he will present a brief history of St. Mark Village. Choice Hearing SolutionsCome to the Hobby Room on Tuesday, January 8,

at 9:30 a.m. for a Hearing Clinic from Choice Hear-ing Solutions. This company will offer their services on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. To help make this service run smoothly, please take a number. You must be present when your number is called. Cus-tomer service and quality of life is just a couple of the goals of this company. Other goods and services they provide include: video otoscopy (used to check for ear wax); ear wax removal; hearing screenings; hearing aid cleaning; minor hearing aid repairs; and one complimentary package of hearing aid batteries. They are also available for individual consultations and in-home hearing testing should the need arise. Call 576-6160.

Resident Safety Council MeetingThe next Resident Safety Council meeting will be

held on Friday, January 4, at 10:00 a.m. in the Club Room. All Residents are welcome.

Sit back, relax, and travel to Alaska and Hawaii on Monday, January 14, at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel. Breathtaking photography captures Alaska’s gran-deur as you cruise the Inside Passage, visit colorful coastal towns, gaze upon fjords and glaciers, ride the Alaskan railroad from Fairbanks, marvel at Mt. McKinley, and venture to the remote Eskimo lands in the far North. Visit cities such as Sitka, Skagway and Ketchikan. Then paradise awaits in Hawaii, visit a land with vibrant people, exotic cultures, exciting history, and scenic wonders. Visit Oahu’s Waikiki Beach, Pearl Harbor, the Battleship Arizona Memo-rial, Honolulu, the Kodak Hula Show, Volcanoes National Park, and more. What Goes Up Must Come DownOn Wednesday, January 9, at 10:00 a.m. we will

begin to take down, pack up, and put away our beau-tiful Christmas decorations. This may take a couple of days, so many hands will be needed. Please call Ellen, at ext. 1743, to schedule a time and day to lend a helping hand.

EXCITING NEWS AHEAD FOR PERFORMING ARTS LOVERS

Tota Music and Theatre Conservatory will be offering three complimentary workshops to our Residents. The semester will start on Friday, January 11, at the Conservatory just a few minutes from St. Mark. The workshops will be held on Friday mornings and transportation will be pro-vided. Two workshops, “Ukulele Ensemble” and “Let’s Dance” will be offered from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. followed by “Vocal Music Ensemble” from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

from a wide variety of cultures and time periods. The core curriculum emphasizes the foundations of vocal-technique, sight-reading, music theory, and music history through fun choral songs!

Wednesday, January 23. We will leave the Village at 9:30 a.m. IKEA sells a wide range of affordable ready-to-assemble furniture, plus housewares. Be-sides providing a copy of their latest catalog for you to borrow while you shop, the store also provides tape measures, pencils, and note pads for you to write down information like price tag details or where to pick up your item. The IKEA store has a lot of fully furnished showrooms. You may sit on the chairs, lie on the beds, and try out everything. Sales representa-tives won’t bother you while you shop. Need help? Just ask! Wear your walking shoes—this store is in a warehouse-like space with many different items to see. Remember, if you purchase a furniture item you will have to put it together. Lunch will be “on your own” at the on-site restaurant which offers full meals—from sandwiches to cake and coffee and ev-erything in between. We will leave IKEA at 1:45 p.m. If interested, please sign up using the Activity Sign Ups Lottery System.

St. Mark Village, Inc. MembershipAs a not for profit company, St. Mark Village,

Inc., does not have stock holders but it does have members. To be a member of St. Mark Village, Inc. one must be a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church or a Life Care Resident of St. Mark Village. It is not necessary as a Resident to become a member, but if you wish to attend the Annual Meeting on Monday, January 28, at 4:00 p.m., you must be a registered member. Corporate Membership forms are available in the Administration Office and need to be com-pleted by Monday, January 7, so you will be included when notices go out.

On Wednesday, January 2, we welcome Rev. Jim Sisk from Open Door Church to lead our Midweek Worship at 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel. All are welcome to this non-denominational gathering.

Contemplative Prayer GroupContemplative prayer is a time of silence and
