THE PHILOSOPHY OF GARIS ARCHITECTS

• Creation of coherent spaces• Sustainable innovation• Sensitive understanding of environment

Page 3: The light waterfront, georgetown

The buildings are built on reclaimed land while the piles are built down to the bedrock.

NATURE TO USER INTEGRATIONThrough the concept of integration, the architect wishes to bring water to the people rather than people to the water. Bringing nature to its user.

INTEGRATION OF ACTIVIT IESLeisure / entertainment/ retail/ business all integrated into one place to bring a “live-work-play” experience to its visitors and residents.

THE GREEN CONCEPTUsing sustainable means for its buildings where energy, water and resources are used more efficiently. All in all reducing environment impact.

THE LIGHT WATERFRONT, GEORGETOWN• Phase 1 – residential.

• Phase 2 - involves integration of public and private spaces making almost a city within a city.

• Phase 3 - recreational park for the masses.

Page 8: The light waterfront, georgetown

MOVEMENT PAT TERN

• No public transport route was shown or proposed in Phase 1

• IJM was allowed reclamation to fund highway.

• Phase 1 is intended as a high-end gated residential area, thus no external public transport.

• Community integration cannot be achieved efficiently without the use of public transport.

• Phase 1, the main housing area, becomes an isolated part of the light waterfront.

• Use of public transport in phase 2 and 3 which are currently under construction is believed to be more extensive as it is business and leisure oriented and will encourage more public access.

C O N C L U S I O N• In every subzone, activities are integrated under one centralized

hub which focuses on the live-work-play experience. However, the integration between zones is not well planned out.

• To limit the accessibility to the wider public, public transportation was not introduced into the planning of phase 1. Thus it does not integrate fully with people in Georgetown. Promoting accessibility and connectivity could be further integrated to attain a well-connected establishment.

• The form and massing of the buildings is designed strategically in such a way it maximizes the views captured from each building.

• The concept of sustainability improves the quality of life by providing economic, human and community benefits as well as reduced environmental impact.
