“Lost to Time” by Martin W. Sandler
Unforgettable stories that history forgot. From the medieval
world to the epic battles of WWII, “Lost to Time” highlights
a number of history’s most fascinating and consequential but
unjustly forgotten people and events. The big question might
be, what else have we not been told about the past? Interesting!!! -Anonymous

David Baldacci has written many thrillers. Corruption is a common theme in his novels including government
agencies and other “high places”. All the “alphabet” agencies get involved, some of which need cleaning up.
Interesting and well developed characters are dispersed throughout with some of them continuing in several
novels. Intriguing plots hold your interest and may even keep you up at night. Try him – you’ll like him.

Hearing Loop @ the Demmer
The Demmer Library is to receive a hearing loop to enhance hearing aid devices used by patrons. A hearing loop provides a magnetic wireless signal that is picked up by hearing aids equipped with a telecoil setting that serves as a customized wireless loudspeaker for the wearer. Telecoil technology provides a clear signal without any background noise that is unobtrusive in a public service setting, thus enabling conversations that ensure privacy for hearing impaired individuals of all ages.
The project is being coordinated by the Wisconsin Valley Library Service with Library Services and Technology Act funds awarded to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction by the Federal Institute of Museum and Library Services.
The Three Lakes Genealogical Society May meeting will be May 20 at 1:00 p.m. in the lower level of the library. The program will be “Where Do I Begin: Genealogy 101.” Anybody interested in an
introduction to genealogy is invited to attend.

Memorial Day is a federal holiday observed yearly on the last Monday of May. Established to
commemorate the men and women from the North and the South who lost their lives during the Civil War, it
has become a day to remember all those who have died while serving in the United States Armed Services. In
the past it was also referred to as Decoration Day and today many people still visit the graves of loved ones and
decorate the grave sites.
Family history researchers who have ancestors who served in the armed forces may be reminded at this
time of the year about the availability of military records online at www.Ancestry.com , www.Fold3.com , and
www.FamilySearch.org . The Demmer Library has free access to the subscription only version of Ancestry.com
at the library, and sometimes around Memorial Day, Fold3.com will advertise free trial subscriptions for people
to access their records. FamilySearch.org is available free of charge to anyone at all times.
For those who would like to learn more about researching military records, these books are available in
the History and Genealogy Room of the Demmer Library:
How to Locate Anyone Who Is or Has Been in the Military, by Richard S. Johnson and Debra
Johnson Knox
World War II Military Records, by Debra Johnson Knox.
U.S. Military Records, by James C. Neagles
If you would like to read about the experiences of Wisconsin military personnel, these books are
available in the History and Genealogy Room:
Letters From the Front 1898-1945, edited by Michael E. Stevens
Voices from Vietnam, edited by Michael E. Stevens
