the law of first mention
DESCRIPTION
- PowerPoint PPT PresentationTRANSCRIPT
• Revelation 1:4-6 John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be
unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and
from the seven Spirits which are before his throne; And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of
the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever.
Amen.
The Law of First MentionThe "law of first-mention" is the principle in the interpretation of
Scripture which states that the first mention or occurrence of a subject
in Scripture establishes an unchangeable pattern, with that
subject remaining unchanged in the mind of God throughout Scripture.
•Habakkuk 2:15 Woe unto him that giveth his
neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to
him, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their
nakedness!

Who hath

• Isaiah 28:1 Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty is a fading flower, which
are on the head of the fat valleys of them that are overcome with wine!
Who hath
WOE ?
Who hath
Sorrow ?
•Isaiah 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows,
and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it
were our faces from him; he was despised, and we
esteemed him not.
Who hath
Sorrow ?
Who hath Woe?
Who hath Sorrow ?
Who hath
Contentions?
•Ephesians 5:18 And be not drunk with wine,
wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit
• Jude 1:3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common

• Lamentations 1:12 Is it nothing to you, all
ye that pass by? behold, and see if there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow, which is done
unto me, wherewith the LORD hath afflicted me in the day of
his fierce anger.
Who hath
Babbling?
• Acts 17:18 Then certain philosophers of the
Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the
resurrection.
• 1 Corinthians 2:12-14 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but
the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely
given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's
wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual
things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them,
because they are spiritually discerned.
Who hath Woe? Who hath
Sorrow? Who hath Contentions? Who hath
Babbling?
Who hath Wounds w/out

neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause.

restored that which I took not away. • John 15:25 But this cometh to
pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.
