“MESSAGES FROM GOD’S TIMELESS BOOK TO
TWENTIETH CENTURY MAN.”
Our message today is “THE GOSPEL FOR THESE HIGH TENSION TIMES."
“My peace I leave with you; My peace I give unto you.” Matt.
24.27
The world is living under high tension today-politically, socially, and religiously. Our religion
also is under strain and tension. We must be careful what we think, and say. We must be
careful how we pray.
On which side of the great world conflict do we find God?
In what kind of a uniform would we clothe Christ?
We must be very careful how we answer these questions lest we do
violence to the very nature of God.
There is only one way to think of God in a world under such pressure and high tension. It is
not a question of which side God is on, or what kind of a uniform Jesus would wear. We
must think of God on a judgment seat, sitting there in sorrowful and stern of condemnation
of this warring world. Behind the struggle and the failure is the common rejection of Christ’s
leadership and His way of life.
Men and women are carrying terrific burdens today. Everywhere it is the same. We are
being overdriven--almost to the breaking point.
We think that the trouble is with this dizzy world in which we live. Cruel circumstances have
captured us. No--the trouble is not there. It is within. The trouble is within our own inner
natures. There is one thing that we, as Christians, lack. It is the peace that Christ alone can
give. Jesus left no material estate--nothing but a seamless robe, for which the soldiers cast
their dice. But our Lord left to all His followers a golden legacy. He knew what we would
need most. His gift was His peace. “My peace I leave with you; My peace I give unto you.”
Jesus demonstrated a major kingdom truth by the life that He lived, that the controlling
power of life comes from within. If ever a man lived under strain and high tension, Jesus
did. Think of what He had to face--what He had to endure. Think of the fierce hatred of the
leaders of religion against Him. Think of the misunderstandings, the criticism, the crushing
disappointments He had to carry. Think of His great compassion, the burdens and the daily
hurts of the people that He shared. Think of the steady drain upon His spiritual resources
that drove sleep from His eyes and sent Him oft times to the secret place to spend the night
in prayer. He was the object of vicious passion and scheming iniquity. He was constantly
under high tension.
How did Jesus meet these vexations?
He met them with serenity, poise, calmness, self-control, and a peace from within that is
marvelous to behold. At last they nailed Him on a Roman Cross to die. They mocked Him.
They spat on Him. They marched around the cross, excited and hysterical, to watch Him
die. Jesus was the calmest of all those gathered there that day. He was sure of God, and
the peace of God dwelling within His soul, and could dictate these words, “Father into Thy
hands I commend my spirit.”
That’s the story the gospels tell--the controlling power of life comes from
within.
We want peace today. We want peace from the fret and strain of cruel devastating wars and
memories of wars. We should daily be committing our bleeding world into the hands of an
all-wise Father. But I am thinking about another peace--the peace that Jesus alone can
give--a peace that stands sentinel at the gateway of the soul holding the heart through
these crowded days of anguish and fear. That is the peace that our Lord would bequeath
and want us to have, that we may be fortified from within while terrible things happen from
without. “FEAR NOT them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.”
That’s the peace that Jesus wants to give you. “My peace I leave with you; My peace I give
unto you.”
What is this peace that transforms defeat into victory?
It is the peace that comes from the possession of adequate resources.
In the world about us we see what the lack of adequate resources does to people, how it
drives them to desperation and tragic deeds. A note is coming due, or a mortgage
foreclosure is threatened, there are not sufficient resources to meet the needs. We all know
what that means. It may be that a medical examination has disclosed the immediate
necessity of major surgery, because the body has been neglected and our strength and
reserves have been depleted by sinful living. The issues of life or death are faced with deep
concern and sober thought.
But, I wonder if we worry very much about any inadequacy of spiritual reserves. The lack of
adequate resources to face the emergencies of life should give us deep concern and serious
thought. It is a dangerous symptom when you see the neglect of God’s Word and the
carelessness and indifference of people to the spiritual things of life.
Jesus can give us the resources we need for the most trying experiences of life.
Jesus offers us the peace of a disciplined life.
What is it that destroys our inner peace and repose?
It is slackness in worship, study and service. You can’t feel right about being careless of
spiritual things. Neglect and compromise lead on to divided loyalties. After a while,
God is a million miles away from us and we are a stranger to Him. That is the way it
happens.
It’s not because we want to lose our grip on God.
It’s just because we can’t discipline our lives and God goes by default.
The peace that Jesus possessed came from a disciplined life.
He could discipline His time, His desires, His hungers, and all those powers within that could
make or mar His happiness and His usefulness. He turned His back on every suggestion
of compromise.
Finally, Jesus possessed the peace of an abiding Presence. More than any other
resources in His life, His dependence was upon the abiding Presence. When He was under
heaviest tension, we see Him stealing away to some secret place to be alone with God.
As the belt links the machinery to the source of power,
so His prayer life brought Him into the closest fellowship with God.
It’s the same with us as it was with Jesus.
What is the secret of the ship that sails from its home harbor out into the trackless
sea, keeping its course by day and by night, through storm, fog and sunshine,
when the winds blow fair and contrary?
The secret is that it moves in two worlds. One world is the ship itself, the sea and all
surroundings. The other world is invisible. It is a power that plays with magnetic fingers
upon the needle of a sensitive instrument--the compass. In spite of the storm and wind; in
spite of encompassing fog, it will guide the ship unerringly to the shelter and safety of the
distant shore.
“My peace I give unto you.”
He offers it to you today. It is the peace and security of an abiding Presence.
It is fellowship with God.
It is the compass we need to guide our frail lives safely across life’s tempestuous
seas.
Good-bye and tune in again. Until then, “WALK IN HIS STEPS.”

Welcome to
“MESSAGES FROM GOD’S TIMELESS BOOK TO
TWENTIETH CENTURY MAN.”
We are going to talk about God’s Sending His Holy Spirit to Establish His Church, the
first conversions in the History of the Church and the converted people. Our study is
from ACTS the 2nd Chapter.
But first, taking a brief look back at the First chapter of the book of Acts, we learn that shortly
before Jesus ascended into Heaven, he re-affirmed an oft-repeated promise that He had given His
followers. This is found in verse four of chapter 1 where it is written,
“And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from
Jerusalem but wait for the promise of the Father, which saith he, ye have heard of me.”
Now this “Promise of the Father” was the promise that the Apostles would receive power after the
Holy Ghost had come upon them: and that they would begin to preach the gospel beginning at
Jerusalem then eventually they were to reach out to the whole world with the good news of Jesus
soul-saving message.
For ten days after Jesus had been received up into heaven before their very eyes, the disciples who
had been waiting for the Promise of the Father, saw that promise gloriously fulfilled. Now the event
of which we are about to read beginning with the first verse of the second chapter of the Book of Acts,
has been well described with “The event that changed the course of this world’s history.” Reading
ACTS 1:1
“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And
suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing, mighty wind, and it filled all the house
where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon
each of them. And they began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. And
there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Now when this
was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard
them speak in his own language.”
Can you imagine what it must have been like to have been present to
witness this miraculous occurrence?
Here was the little group of Jesus followers, ALL GALLILAENS, preaching the gospel to this great
crowd of thousands of people who were in Jerusalem gathered at the Temple for the Jewish
Pentecostal Celebration. This crowd of Jews did not all speak the same language--in fact they had
come there from 17 or 18 different countries--some were from Rome, others from Asian cities and so
on, but they all understood what the Gallileans were saying. This was a miracle.
Now why did God perform this miracle?
The Apostle Paul writing by inspiration of God, some years after this event said tongues are for a
sign. God sent this miracle in fulfillment of his prophecies and to signal the establishment of the
Spiritual Kingdom of God the Church, with men. It heralded the good news that salvation from was
being made available to sinner men and women.
Of course, there were some there who would not believe that the phenomenal occurrence of tongues
speaking was either of God or miraculous. They said these people are drunk. They said they are full of
new wine. But Peter met those challenging words with a spirit-guided, soul-stirring and powerful
sermon. The first sermon, in fact, recorded since the establishing of God’s church in this world. He
told the scoffers that those speaking in tongues ere not drunk, but were full of the Holy Spirit which
God had promised to send. He further declared
Let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God hath made both Lord and Christ this Jesus whom
you have crucified (verse 36).
Peter knew that he was preaching to many of the very same persons who had demanded Jesus
crucifixion, therefore, his message was powerful and to the point. It brought many of them to
repentance.
And, you know friends that’s exactly what we need today.
This same kind of gospel.
A gospel that will not bring men and women to an awareness of their sins and
will not bring them to repentance, CANNOT POSSIBLY SAVE A SOUL!
THAT’S WHY WE HAVE SO MANY SO-CALLED CHURCH-MEMBERS WHO HAVE NEVER
BEEN BORN AGAIN. AND THAT’S WHY PREACHERS ARE NOT REACHING THE
LIBERALISTIC, MODERNISTIC - NEW MORAL CROWD.
Notice the results that come when the gospel is preached. Reading form verse 37
Now when they heard this they were pricked in their hearts and said unto peter and the rest of the
apostles WHAT MUST WE DO?
Now Peter didn’t tell those repentant persons to go to the rabbis of whatever Jewish sect they may
have belonged to for counseling, so that they could become more active in their respective religious
groups. This would, no doubt, have made him very popular and assured him of a large crowd the
next time he came to Jerusalem to preach -- He would have had the cooperation of every synagogue
in town had he done that. Nor did he tell them to go to a psychologist, or psychiatrist in order to be
analyzed and treated so that they might get rid of their guilt feelings.
He told them that they needed to
REPENT AND BE BAPTIZED FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF THEIR SINS.
He said,
Repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye
shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all
that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. And with many other words did he
testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. Then they that gladly
received the word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand
souls.
What a wonderful response to the gospel invitation!
And what a change was brought about in the lives of these people who had been burdened with their
sins.
NOTICE,
they GLADLY received the word of God, and OBEYED God’s instructions to be baptized for
the REMISSION of their sins.
Another thing we notice about these people is that being converted made a change in their lives.
ONE OF THE MOST HEARTBREAKING things seen happen so repeatedly is people will come
forward in a great revival or evangelistic crusade. They will come in large number sometimes, but a
great number of them -- I WOULD SAY THE VAST MAJORITY OF THEM --come forward either
out of CURIOSITY OR CHEAP EMOTIONALISM. They come forward during the campaign to make
a decision, then go back home and TO THEIR OLD SINFUL WAYS OF LIVING, AND RARELY
BECOME FAITHFUL EITHER TO GOD OR A LOCAL CONGREGATION. But it was not like that
with those three thousand
The Bible says,
They continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread and in
prayers. (verse 42) and (verse 45 says) They sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all
men as every man had need. And they continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking
bread from house to house did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God,
and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be
saved.
The closing words of this second chapter tell us of the impact these born-again-believers-in-Christ
had on the community because of their Faith in God, their willingness to share with the needy and
the joy of their fellowship.
How wonderful it would be if the churches of today would get rid of the unscriptural practices that
divide them; lay aside the traditions of men with all their empty ceremonies and rituals; began once
again to preach Jesus Christ and Him crucified, instead of a watered down social (AND
SOCIALISM) gospel. The church would THEN BE RELEVANT. IT WOULD HAVE AN IMPACT
UPON MEN AND WOMEN, IT WOULD BE IN FAVOR WITH GOD AND MAN AND MOST
IMPORTANT OF ALL IT WOULD BE THE SOUL-SAVING INSTITUTION GOD PLANTED IT IN
THIS WORLD TO BE.
BUT THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN EVER HAPPEN IS FOR BOTH PREACHERS AND THEIR
CONGREGATIONS TO GET BACK TO THE BIBLE, AND FOLLOW IT AS GOD’S UNERRING
INSTRUCTIONS TO MAN.
This concludes our message today. GOOD-BYE and tune in again. Until the,
WALK IN HIS STEPS!
AUTHOR, BROTHER JAMES MANTOOTH
Welcome to “MESSAGES FROM GOD’S TIMELESS BOOK TO
TWENTIETH CENTURY MAN.”
Our
message today is
“ARE YOU ASHAMED OF CHRIST?”
The title of my message today poses a question. The question is this, “ARE YOU ASHAMED OF CHRIST?” If you are a Christian and are not telling other people about Christ, if you are not acknowledging to others that you are a Christian and glad of it…perhaps it’s because you are ashamed of Jesus. I’m also talking to non-Christians. If you are one who is not a Christian, but a silent believer, perhaps it’s because you are ashamed to admit that you believe in Christ. IN ANY CASE, YOU MUST NOT BE ASHAMED OF CHRIST. JESUS SAYS whosoever shall be ashamed of me in this sinful and adulterous generation, of him also shall the son of man be ashamed when he comes in the glory of the Father with his holy angels. Mark 8:38
What men need today, is the philosophy of that great man of God, the Apostle Paul, who declared in Phil. 1:20 According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death. That great apostle was not speaking shallow bravado, but later proved he meant what he said when refusing to deny Christ even though it meant his death. He was beheaded by order of Nero approximately 69or 70 A.D. Therefore, we know he meant it, when he made such statements as “For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. And again, “I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ for it is the power of God unto salvation unto everyone who believes to the Jew first and also unto the Greek. Rom. 1:16
The apostle Paul does not stand alone in history as one who spoke boldly for Christ in the face of death. Time would fail us to mention the thousands who were martyred for their faith. Men such as the apostle Peter who was crucified on an inverted cross, because he would not cease to preach the gospel of Christ. And the deacon Stephan who continued to preach to an angry mob of unbelievers in the city of Jerusalem even as that mob stoned him to death.
Some may say, “Well that happened in the first century, it couldn’t happen today.” We can thank our great God in heaven for the religious freedom we enjoy in America that probably the worst thing that will happen to us if we bear witness of Christ is to be laughed at, or called puritan, or square, or prudish. However, reports are coming in every day of Christians being persecuted -IN THIS 20TH CENTURY- in countries under the Communist banner: Men and women whom I know personally have suffered, and are suffering, persecution because of their testimony on behalf of Christ. And, friends, we had better pray for America, and work, to keep her free from the Atheistic totalitarianism known as Communism which stalks the world and seeks to overthrow all free nations. Or else we, too, might one day know what it is to feel the sting of the slave-driver’s whip…May it never be is our prayer.
But, friends, if we believe in Jesus, we had better stand up and be counted. We have every reason to be glad we are Christians. And the only thing about which a believer might have to be ashamed, relative to his faith, is when HE ISN’T MAKING HIMSELF HEARD, AND LETTING HIS INFLUENCE BE FELT AS A CHRISTIAN.
YES, OUR ONLY VALID REASON FOR SHAME WOULD BE WHEREIN WE HAVE FALLEN SHORT AS CHRISTIANS. For example, if we fall short of our knowledge of God, and the Bible, we have reason to be ashamed, and God tells us what to do about that. He says, Study to show thyself approved unto God a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth. 2 Tim. 2:15 I am afraid this is an area in which many of us could improve immensely. There are thousands of people who have been professed Christians for years, but know very little about the Book they are supposed to be following. I read a little tract some time ago which asked the question: “Can you tell me the way to heaven?” The author of that tract told how he had asked this very question of 16 different Christians, and each to his shame was unable to answer the question. My friends, every Christian ought to have this information on the tip of his tongue and ready at all times to point some lost soul to the road to heaven. I read the results of a survey taken in a certain college not too long ago, it was a survey containing questions about the Bible. Some of the results are shocking : 51% did not know the number of books in the Bible; 21% did not know which book gives the History of the early church; 53% could not name the ordinances of the Church; 50% did not know the answer to the question: “What must I do to be saved. The only solution: Be ashamed - not of Christ , but of our lack of Bible knowledge ; dust off that old book, prayerfully read it, and LIVE by it.
THEN, WHEN WE DEMONSTRATE TRUE CHRISTIANITY, BY FAITH AND WORDS, WE SHALL HAVE NO REASON TO BE ASHAMED. When we are knowledgeable in the Bible; when we are living by it; when our lives are pure because we have found the grace of the Lord; when we are witnessing boldly for Christ, when we are saved and know it, then we shall have no reason to be ashamed.
I am reminded of a young man who was a Christian. He had believed, he had repented, he had confessed his faith and been immersed (that is baptized) into Christ and attended Bible school and church regularly from an early age. /When he had grown to young manhood somewhere around the ages of 19-20 years old, he decided the wanted to leave home for a few weeks and work in a logging camp. His father called him aside and talked heart-to-heart with him before he left. The father said, “Now son, when you get to that logging camp you’re going to find that not all those fellows are Christians; some of them are pretty rugged and lowbrow. You’ll find that they don’t all believe like we do. Nor do they live the way we do. They might even poke fun at your Christianity. They could make your life pretty miserable for you. The boy assured his dad he would be able to take care of himself, and that there would be no trouble. The boy went away as he had planned, and when he had stayed away the anticipated amount of time, he returned home. After the boy was settled in his room the family gathered together for a reunion with him. The dad finally asked, “Well son, did any of those fellows give you any trouble about your belief in Christ?” The boy answered, “No dad. I got around that problem o.k.; all the time I was there, none of those fellows ever guessed that I was a Christian.” Isn’t that the way it is all too often today? There are thousands of people who have their names on the records of their churches but live just as worldly as the unconverted sinners who have never known our Lord…and YOU WOULD NEVER GUESS, BY OBSERVING THEIR LIVES, THAT THEY ARE CHRISTIANS! Because they drink liquor like the unconverted, they curse just like the unconverted, they absent themselves from worship just like the unconverted. They, usually, when they are called to talk about their un-Christian manner of life, they will answer with some feeble excuse, like, “Well, I don’t think a person should e a religious fanatic (by fanatic they mean abstaining from liquor, dope, not fulfilling the lust of the flesh, being hones (even on income taxes) and the like.
The Bible declares, they who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God, I Cor. 6:9-10. Moreover, God has an answer for such persons. He says, “If any man suffer as a Christian let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God on this behalf.” I Pet. 4:16
ILLUSTRATION: Long ago, a great man of God named Polycarp was tied to the stake . Wood was placed at his feet and prepared for the execution by burning. But Polycarp still would not deny his Lord. The proconsul who had ordered the burning urged him saying: “Swear, and I will release thee; - reproach Christ.”
Polycarp’s answer was this; “Eighty and six years have I served him, and he never once wronged me; how then shall I blaspheme my King, who hath saved me?”
Oh, that you and I might serve Christ with that kind of devotion. This man gave the “Last full measure of devotion - - even unto death.” Faithful to Christ who had not been ashamed to die for him and for you and me. The Bible says, He who know no sin that we might become the righteousness of God through him. 2 Cor 5:21 If Jesus was willing to suffer such shame for us and finally to even die for us, should not we be willing at least, to LIVE for Him? Rom 12:1 “I beseech you brethren by the mercies of God that you present you body a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”
How about you my friend?
Are you willing to stand up and be counted for Christ? If you are, He promises you the crown of life. Backslidden Christian, rededicate yourself to Christ: start prying again; go back to church again. Sinner, you who have never publicly accepted Christ, go to church where the word is preached, listen to the message; give your soul a chance to be saved.
This completes our message for today. Now we invite you to attend Christian worship services.
Good-bye, tune in again! Until then, walk in His steps.

“MESSAGES FROM GOD’S TIMELESS BOOK TO
TWENTIETH CENTURY MAN.”
Our
message today is
“OPEN EYES.”
A few months ago a Russian Cosmonaut who had flown through space and had returned to
the earth remarked that he had flown through the heavens and had not see God. Implying,
of course, that God did not exist simply because he had not seen God. How foolish! Of
course he didn’t see God for God Himself DECLARED in Exodus 33:20 “No man shall see my face
and live.”
But, you see, we perceive God with eyes of FAITH. We see His handiwork in His
creation and we see His blessings and experience them in our lives; we see Him as revealed
in His Son Jesus. God is declared to be the INVISIBLE God in the first chapter of the Book of
Romans. Romans 1:20, 21 declares “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the
world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even this eternal
power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God,
they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations,
and their foolish heart was darkened.”
FAITH serves the believer for eyes, and makes him see what others CANNOT see.
In the book of II Kings, chapter 6, we find a man who, like many people today, was blind to
the presence, the protection and the providence of God. He was the servant of Elisha a
great man of faith and a prophet of God. We read beginning at verse 13 of 2 Kings the sixth
chapter:
"And he said, Go and spy where his is, that I may send and fetch him. And it was told him, saying Behold he is in Dothan. Therefore sent he thither horses, and chariots, and a great host and they came by night, and compassed the city about. And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! How shall we do? And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha. And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the Lord and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness and it was done according to the word of Elisha. And Elisha said unto them, This is not the way, neither is this the city: follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom ye seek. But he led them to Samaria. And it came to pass, when they were come into Samaria, that Elisha said, Lord, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And the Lord opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria. And the king of Israel said unto Elisha, when he saw them: wouldest thou smite those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow? Set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.
Someone once said: “GOD AND YOU ARE A MAJORITY.” How true this is,
if we will only open our eyes as did Elisha’s servant and see the presence, the
protection and the providence of God.
ONE OF THE REASONS SOME PEOPLE CAN’T SEE GOD IS
BECAUSE THEY HAVE DONE
2 THINGS:
THEY HAVE GROWN TOO CLOSE TO THE MATERIAL THINGS OF THIS WORLD
and
THEY HAVE PUT THESE THINGS BETWEEN THEMSELVES AND GOD. THEY ARE TOO PRE-
OCCUPIED WITH MONEY, HOBBIES AND EVEN SINFUL PLEASURES SO THAT THESE THINGS
ARE ALL THEY SEE.
David Rittenhouse of Pennsylvania was an astronomer. He was skillful in measuring the
sizes of planets, and determining the positions of the stars. But he found that such was the
distance of the stars, a silk thread stretched across the glass of his telescope would entirely
cover a star; and, moreover, that a silk fiber, however small, placed upon the same glass,
would cover so much of the heavens, that the star, if a small one, and near the pole, would
remain obscured behind that silk fiber several seconds. Thus a silk fibre appeared to be
larger in diameter than a star perhaps many times larger than our own sun. Every sun
shines upon this world. Our sun is 886,000 miles in diameter; and yet, seen from a distant
star, our sun could be covered, obscured, hidden behind the thread that was near the eye,
although in a telescope. Just so we have seen some who never could behold the heavenly
world. They have eyes only for the things of this earth.
John 3:3 “…Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
My friend, God is real and He is not only in His heaven but He is here with us…He is near
you so that you can see Him and take hold of Him by faith if you’ll do it. Listen to what God
inspired Paul to say to the men and women of Athens years ago; those same words are just
as meaningful as ever even today,
“Seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: For in him we live and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also
his offspring.”Acts 17:27,28
The Psalmist declared, “Whither shall I go from thy spirit? Or whither shall I flee from thy presence. If I
ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell behold thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and swell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me. And thy right hand shall behold me. I say surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. Yea the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike
to thee. Ps. 139:7-11
Someone will say, “But if God is near us at all times, why is it that so many people fail to
believe in Him. God gives us the answer in
II Corinthians 4:3,4 “But if the gospel be hid it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this
world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God should shine unto them.”
THIS MATTER OF SEEING AND BELIEVING IN GOD WITH EYES OF FAITH, HOW TRUE THE
OLD ADAGE “THERE IS NONE SO BLIND AS THOSE WHO WILL NOT SEE.”
DWEIGHT L. MOODY ONCE SAID SOMETHING AS A WORD OF PERSONAL TESTIMONY THAT
WILL SERVE TO FURTHER CLARIFY THIS POINT; HE SAID: “IT IS NOT THE THINGS I DON’T
UNDERSTAND ABOUT THE BIBLE THAT BOTHER ME. IT’S THE THINGS THAT I DO
UNDERSTAND AND I KNOW I AM NOT DOING THAT BOTHER ME.”
WHAT ABOUT YOU, FRIEND?
Have you closed your eyes to the truth for so long that you can’t see?
Or have you willfully closed your mind against God?
Are there sins lurking in your heart yet unforgiving because you refuse to see the truth
about God, and about your lost condition?
You can’t go on through life in that condition and expect to be saved in eternity.
You can’t continue to reject Christ and continue to sin and stand blameless in the judgment.
There is going to be a judgment,
God says, “It is appointed unto man once to die and after that cometh the judgment.” Heb. 9:27
What you need to do is OPEN YOUR EYES to the truth:
God is real;
His Son is real and He died on the cross to deliver you from your sins;
You are lost in your sins and trespasses if you don’t do something about it.
You need to believe in Christ, Repent of your sins, acknowledge Jesus as the Son of God
and obey Christ beginning with baptism and continuing to do so throughout your life. But
you must have faith, you must believe…YOU MUST OPEN YOUR EYES!
“FAITH, MIGHTY FAITH, THE PROMISE SEES,
AND LOOKS TO THAT ALONE;
LAUGHS AT IMPOSSIBILITIES, AND CRIES IT SHALL BE DONE.”

I’m not going to talk to you today about the things of this world, I want to talk with you
about “Another World.” That world to which, by the grace of God, I am going, and I hope
you, too, plan to go there. Yes, I’m talking to you today about Heaven, our future and
eternal home.
Our Scripture for this message is that well-known and beautiful passage found in John 14:1-
4. And now we read as follows;
“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you.
I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you,
I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be
also.”
A minister and friend, whom I have heard preach this same subject many times, tells of a
visit a minister made when called to the beside of an elderly lady who had a fatal illness. He
told how the lady asked her minister to read the most beautiful passage of Scripture in the
Bible. Her minister thought she probably meant the 14th chapter of John so he turned there
and read: Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my
Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. He stopped
reading for a moment. And when he stopped the sick lady urged him saying, “No, read on!
You haven’t read the most beautiful part yet.” The minister read on: I go to prepare a
place for you. At this point, the saintly lady broke in saying; “There it is! That is the most
beautiful verse of Scripture in the Bible. Because it tells me that Jesus is preparing heaven.
And I know that if Jesus, who had a part in the creation of all things, who left His heavenly
home to dwell among sinful men, and finally, demonstrated His love for me, if He is
preparing Heaven, it will be beautiful beyond description! And it will be such a wonderful
place to live.”
YES, MY FRIENDS, HEAVEN IS A PREPARED PLACE.
The Bible tells us that “Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither hath it entered into the
heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him.” I Cor 2:9. Have
you ever paused for a moment somewhere in a quiet place amid the fields, the
pastures…just to take in the beautiful scenery around you? And perhaps say to yourself as
you view a breathtaking sunset, and say to yourself: “Nothing could be more beautiful than
this.” Or perhaps when you viewed a winding stream of clear bubbling water, or a placid
lake in which the moon was casting reflection, you thought: “This is the most beautiful site
possible, but, still, God says, Eye hath not seen…neither has it entered into the heart of
man the things God has prepared for man.
I have heard some beautiful music very pleasing to the ear, and I have heard choirs sing so
melodiously that I thought of the heavenly angels and how they shall thrill the hearts of the
redeemed in heaven with their singing. And the Bible tells us that the redeemed will sing
the new song there in heaven. The Bible tells us,“Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard,
neither hath it entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them
that love him.” Yes, heaven is going to be beautiful and blissful beyond our ability to either
imagine or describe. The Apostle Paul, who evidently had a glimpse of heaven at the time
he was stoned and left for dead, later trying to describe what he had seen said, “I saw
things which is not lawful to utter.” He did not mean it would be criminal to describe it, but
simply that he neither had the words nor the mentality to convey an adequate picture of
heaven.
One of the grand old songs we sing says: HOW BEAUTIFUL HEAVEN MUST BE, SWEET HOME
OF THE HAPPY AND FREE, FAIR HAVEN OF REST FOR THE WEARY, HOW BEAUTIFUL
HEAVEN MUST BE.”
MOREOVER, THE PLACE OF WHICH I TELL YOU TODAY - THAT OTHER WORLD - IS NOT
GOING TO BE TEMPORARY BUT ETERNAL.
The place itself will be unending; listen to this passage of scripture, “For we know that if our
earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not
made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” II Cor. 5:1 It’s difficult for us to describe or
define eternity, but perhaps we can get an idea of it by sharing this hypothetical thought.
Suppose a little hummingbird were to fly to the mouth of the Mediterranean sea, to the rock
of Gibraltar to sharpen his beak on that rock once every year until he had whetted away
that great rock and it was lost beneath the waves swaying to and fro over it. When this
should have happened, eternity would be only beginning.
Not only will that holy city called heaven stand forever, but those who dwell there will never
die. God says, There shall be no more death. Rev. 21:4 "And God shall wipe away all tears
from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither
shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." There is a gospel
hymn we love to sing,
"Amazing grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me!!
I once was lost, but now I’m found was blind but now I see…
When we’ve been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun, we’ve no
less days to sing God’s praise than when we’ve first begun!”
But there is another song we sing which is just as true…the spiritual hymn,
“Heaven, heaven, everybody talk’n about heaven ain’t a go’n there.”
Because ...“Heaven is a Holy place filled with Glory and Grace. Sin can never enter there,
so, if at the judgment bar sinful spots your soul shall mar,
you can never enter there.”
HEAVEN IS A PREPARED PLACE FOR PREPARED PEOPLE.
They like heaven, are prepared by Jesus. That’s what the gospel is all about; that’s why
Jesus came to this earth in the first place; that’s why He died for your sins, rose and lives
today… To PREPARE YOU for heaven. But YOU must cooperate, You must respond to His
invitation to be prepared.
How do you do this?
It’s very clearly described in the Bible. This is the way to do it:
LISTEN to the Word of God when it is taught, preached or read.
The Bible says, Faith comes by HEARING and HEARING by the Word of God. Rom 10:17.
If you give the Bible a fair hearing, then you will BELIEVE and you will have achieved the
second step toward your Saviour.
And the Bible says, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. John 3:16-17,
Mark 16:16
Then, when you believe you need to repent, as Peter told the multitude what they must
do: Repent..., and be converted, and have your sins blotted out when the times of
refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; Acts 3:19;
When one has heard, and has become a repentant believer, it is then that he is ready to
be baptized for the forgiveness of his sins: When the people asked Peter on the Day of
Pentecost what they must do, Peter answered,
Repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of
sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is unto you, and to your
children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. Acts 2:38
It remains, then, for one to live by the Bible's instructions in regard to his morals, as well
as, to study the Word of God in order to learn of his responsibilities toward God.
Have you made such preparations my friend? If not, you need to do so.
Remember: HEAVEN IS A PREPARED PLACE FOR PREPARED PEOPLE.
Time and vocabulary would fail us to describe heaven to you. Of course, I realize beautiful
descriptions are given of heaven in the Word of God. In such passages as Revelation 21, for
example, where we read of that beautiful city with streets of gold, diamonds and other
precious jewels adorning its mansions and such-like. Perhaps this description is figurative,
but whether it is or isn’t figurative, I know heaven is going to be a wonderful place to spend
eternity. In closing I want to share with you a true happening.
There was a little blind boy whose father and mother loved him very much. And took him to doctor after doctor trying to find some way to bring sight to their son. Finally, they learned that it was possible that a certain doctor could perform an operation on their son’s eyes that would possibly bring sight to their boy. The operation was performed, and the day came when the bandages were to be removed from the boy’s eyes. The parents made elaborate preparations for the occasion. Flowers were sent to the boy’s room and the father and mother dressed in their best because they wanted the boy’s first experience of seeing to be a pleasant one. They stood at the place most convenient for the boy to see them…then the bandages were removed completely. Among the first things the little boy said was, “It’s so wonderful to see. And daddy and mother why didn’t you tell me how beautiful everything is?” The mother and father said, “Son, we tried to tell you, but you just had to see for yourself before you would really know.
Friend, I’m trying to tell you how beautiful heaven is, but I hope you’ll make preparations
by accepting Christ as your Saviour. Then, you’ll see for yourself.
This completes our sermon for today. Good-bye and tune in next time.
Until then,
Walk in His steps.

Welcome to
“MESSAGES FROM GOD’S TIMELESS BOOK TO
TWENTIETH CENTURY MAN.”
Our message today deals with some of the follies by which people lose their souls.
So I’m going to title this message,
“FATAL FOLLY.”
Our scripture for this message is I Corinthians 1:18
For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are
saved it is the power of God.
Now this gives us a lead into the kind of thinking that takes place in the mind of the person
who is constantly guilty of the fatal folly of making the wrong choice in life where his
spiritual well-being is concerned.
I shall never forget two young men I met some time back in my ministry. I tried very hard
to help them to know God. They were twins and looked very much alike, they talked alike
and apparently thought very much alike. Time after time I told them of God’s love for them,
about Jesus giving himself on the cross to save them. Sometimes they would be very
serious, and almost at the point of accepting Christ, but it seemed that when one of these
boys was ready to accept Christ, the other was not quite ready…it would be first one, and
then, the other, who would be the drawback.
I had other evangelists talk with them, but somehow these two boys, as nice and polite as
they were, just would not accept Christ. THEIR MOST OFTEN-USED PLEA WAS THAT THEY
WERE YOUNG AND WANTED TO WAIT UNTIL THEY WERE MUCH OLDER BEFORE THEY MADE
SUCH A DECISION; even though, they were both in their late teens and taller in stature
than the average man.
These boys had some pretty wild companions who liked to drink and drive recklessly - AND
I’D LIKE TO SAY THIS, THAT ANY PERSON WHO WILL SELL INTOXICATING BEVERAGES TO
MINORS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST FRIENDS OF THE DEVIL AND ONE OF THE WORST
ENEMIES TO GOD AND MAN; THERE IS ONLY ONE OTHER THING THAT MIGHT BE WORSE,
AND THAT IS A DRUG PUSHER!
But these boys, along with some other boys and girls, were out on a highway drinking and
driving when their car went out of control, overturning and seriously injuring several of
those young people and killing one of the twin boys we were trying to bring to Jesus.
Some time after that, the surviving twin made the decision that he knew he and his twin
should have made long before the accident. But how tragic it is--what fatal folly--to say:
“I’M GOING TO PUT CHRIST OFF UNTIL I’M OLDER AND READY TO SETTLE DOWN.”
I heard about a man one time who kept telling the preacher, “I’m going to come to church
just as soon as I get straightened out.” This was his excuse every time: Finally the man
died and was taken to the morgue where they straightened his body and put it in a casket.
The funeral was held in the church and when the preacher got up to preside, he said, “Well,
this man kept his word, he came to church after he got straightened out.”
Friends, did you ever tell your preacher that? “We’ll be to church when we get straightened
out.” And then continue to absent yourself from the worship assemblies of your
congregation. If you knew the thoughts that go through your preachers mind when you use
this worn out excuse--you wouldn’t use it. And that goes for most of your excuses, he’s
heard them ten million times over. After all, the Lord KNOWS your heart. And this is one
kind of FATAL FOLLY.
Fatal because it leads to another kind of FATAL FOLLY we see so much of, that of rejecting
the Bible and formulating self-made religious opinions.
God speaks of this folly, and the danger of it, in the Bible. And we are going to read it here
in the book of Romans, Chapter 10:3... Being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going
about to establish their own righteousness, they have not submitted themselves unto the
righteousness of God.
This kind of folly occurs when men look to other men, or perhaps to themselves, as the
ones to declare what is right and what is wrong religiously…WITHOUT BOTHERING TO GO
TO GOD’S BOOK OF RELIGIOUS AUTHORITY, THE BIBLE, WHERE GOD HAS EXPRESSED
HIMSELF SO PLAINILY AND AUTHORITATIVELY.
For example, we hear much today about the NEW MORALITY. (And some who claim to be
Christians are being mislead by it.) And we hear some say that pre-marital sex; extra
marital sex; and even homosexual acts can, in the words of so-called theologians, “BE
BEAUTIFUL.” What folly this is! And how fatal it will be to anyone who is mislead by it!
Listen to what God says: Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled; but
whoremongers and adulterers God will judge. Heb. 13:4
My friends, do you know what we need today? We need, more than anything else, to get
back to the Bible. The Bible alone gives us ample instruction to guide us on moral issues; it
gives us clear and unmistakable instructions regarding our soul’s salvation; it gives us
thorough instructions concerning the church, what its purpose is, what its program should
be, whom and how we are to worship and so forth; it gives us clear and simple instructions
on how to be law-abiding citizens…and so on.
AND IT IS THE ONLY BOOK THAT AFFORDS US INFALLIBLE INSTRUCTIONS ON THESE
MATTERS…
IT’S FATAL FOLLY TO REJECT THE BIBLE AND FOLLOW MEN’S OPINIONS!
Another kind of fatal folly is to live sinfully just because everybody else is doing it. Listen to
what the Bible has to say about this: Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil. Ex.
23:2; He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be
destroyed. Proverbs 13:20 Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. I
Cor. 15:33; Be not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath
righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness? And
what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For ye are the temple of the living God;
as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they
shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the
Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you,
and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. II Cor. 6:14-18. Also,
Matt. 7:13,14 Enter ye in at the strait gate; for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that
leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in there at: But strait is the gate, and
narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Nothing could be more obvious than the fact that our Maker…has clearly expressed and
defined the faith we must have, and the manner of life we must live, for our good and for
our own salvation. And,
IS IT FATAL FOLLY TO REJECT IT?
Therefore, as the great Apostle Paul declares in II Cor. 5:11 We persuade men. Yes, we
persuade, we urge men to accept, without delay, Him who is able to save.
My radio friends, without a doubt, there are many of you listening to my voice at this very
moment who need to be saved. Let me urge you to go to church where you will hear the
gospel preached…where you will have spiritual guidance available. God put His church here
to seek and save the lost and to nurture and keep those who are saved until He returns.
And he is going to return, but not to die for our sins this time, but to be our Judge.
In closing let me share with you these several lines:
TIS FATAL TO SHUN THE CROSS,
TO SELL THE SOUL IN DEBAUCHERY’S DROSS,
TO PROCRASTINATE ‘TILL ALL IS LOST,
ALAS! O SINNER, COUNT THE COST!
This completes our message for today, Now I want to extend to you a hearty invitation to
attend our Lord’s day services . Perhaps you have a problem, or a sick loved one, and you
would like for me to pray for you or to pray for you loved one, I would feel it a privilege to
do so.
Good-bye, Walk in Jesus’ steps.

FOUR THINGS GOD DOES NOT KNOW
Our sermon topic for today is “Four Things God Does Not Know.”
Your first response to this statement is probably to think that this title is a gross mistake;
however, I assure you that there are “Four Things God Does Not Know.”
One time when I announced this topic a man said, Preacher, God is omniscient; what things
could possibly be hid from him? He knows the exact height of every mountain and the depth
of every lake and ocean. He knows exactly how many stars there are in the sky. And the
Bible says “God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.” John 3:20. And Hebrews
4:13 says “ Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight; but all things are
naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.”
How true this is, for to try to search the limits of God’s mind,
would be like a man attempting to measure
the depths of the deepest sea
with a 5 foot rope.
But, now, let’s consider the four things God doesn’t know.
The first we shall mention is, “GOD DOESN’T KNOW ONE SINNER WHOM HE DOESN’T
LOVE.” It is very true, of course that man has given God every reason to dislike him. Titus
the third chapter and third verse describes it like this: “We ourselves were sometimes
foolish, disobedient, living in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another. It is difficult to
understand how God could find it in His heart to love sinner man, but he does. As it is
written in Titus 3:4. “After all that man had done against God and His fellowman the love of
God our Saviour toward all men appeared. Not by works of righteousness which we have
done, but according to His mercy he saved us.” I was once talking with a man who was a
known alcoholic, and as I tried to tell him of God’s love for him he said, “Brother James,
God couldn’t possibly love me… a drunkard.” I said, “God doesn’t love your drunkenness,
but he loves your soul. He loves you.” And I read to him Roman’s 5:8 where it is
written, “God commended His love toward us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died
for us.” A veteran of World War II once said to me, “God couldn’t possible love me or want
to save me, because I had to kill in combat and I feel unforgivable.” I said, “First let me
assure you that, fighting for your country when the cause is right is a noble thing. We regret
the killing that takes place in war, but that doesn’t make you guilty of murder. But, suppose
it did, listen to what Peter said to those who had been guilty of murdering Jesus: When
Peter had confronted the multitude with their crime, they were cut to the heart and asked
Peter and the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren what shall we do? Now
Peter didn’t say to them: There is no hope for you. God doesn’t love you or want to save
you; He said in Acts 2:38 “Repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus
Christ for the remission of sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit for the
promise is unto you and to your children and to all who are afar off even as many as the
Lord our God shall call.” Tears came into that mans eyes as he became aware that God
loved him and wanted to save him. He confessed faith in Christ and was baptized that day.
So it is with every sinner “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son
that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but should have everlasting life.” John
3:16.
No, God doesn’t know one sinner whom He doesn’t love; but the second thing God Does Not
Know is: He Doesn’t Know of one Sin that He Does not Hate. Proverbs 6:16 says “These six
things God hates, yea seven are an abomination to the Lord. A proud look, hands that shed
innocent blood, a lying tongue, a heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that are swift
in running to mischief, false witness that speaketh lies and he that soweth discord among
brethern.” But it is obviously sin, not the sinner himself, that is an abomination to the Lord.
And no wonder, when we consider what sin has done to those whom God loves. Sin
alienated man from God. Sin has brought broken homes, disease and killing. Sin crucified
Jesus, God’s Son. The Bible says “He who knew no sin (that is Jesus for he was completely
without sin) was made to be sin on our behalf that we might become the righteousness of
God through Him.” II Cor. 5:21.
Yes, God hates sin, and He doesn’t know one sin that he doesn’t hate.
GOD DOESN’T KNOW A SINCERE, GOD-SEEKING SINNER WHOM HE CAN’T SAVE.
Regardless of nationality, political, social, or financial standing, Jesus says, “ All that my
Father giveth unto me shall come to me, and him that cometh to me, I will not cast
out.” John 6:37. We remember that Jesus once said, “Verily I say unto you, that a rich man
shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven - And again I say unto you, It is easier for a
camel to go through the EYE of a NEEDLE, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of
God. When His disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, who then can be
saved? But Jesus beheld them and said unto them, WITH MAN THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE, BUT
WITH GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE.” Yes, if a man will Listen to God’s word, and
sincerely believe and obey, God does not know one such person whom He cannot save. The
Bible tells us of a man named Saul who hated the church so much that he fought against it.
He had cast many men and women in jail in the city of Jerusalem, and had seen them die
because of the testimony he spoke against them. The Bible says the church in Jerusalem
was scattered as a result of Saul’s campaign against it. As if this were not enough, Saul still
breathing threats and slaughter against the church was on His way to the city of Damascus
where he intended doing the same thing that he had done in Jerusalem but something
happened. Jesus appeared to Saul. There was a great flash of light which blinded and
startled Saul who fell to the ground and Jesus said, “Saul, Saul, Why persecutes thou
Me?” Saul asked, “Who are thou, Lord? And the Lord said I am Jesus whom thou
persecutest. It is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.“ And he trembling and astonished
said, “Lord, what wouldst thou have me to do?” And the Lord said unto him, “Arise, and go
into the city, and it shall be told them what thou must do.” Then Paul arose, blind from the
light, and was led by his companions into Damascus where the messenger of God named
Ananias restored his sight then said, “And now Saul why tarriest thou arise, be baptized and
wash away your sins calling on the name of the Lord.” You see God saved Saul the
persecutor who became a great preacher and missionary. Whom God also used to write 13
books (14 if we count Hebrews) in the New Testament.
THE FINAL AND FOURTH THING, GOD DOESN’T KNOW A BETTER TIME THAN RIGHT
NOW. Roman’s 13:11 declares, “ It is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our
salvation nearer than when we believed.”
Heb. 10:37 says, “For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come and will not tarry.”
Also, listen to II Corinthians 6:2 “Behold now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day
of salvation.”
SO, THESE FOUR THINGS GOD DOES NOT KNOW:
A SINNER WHOM HE DOES NOT LOVE
A SIN HE DOES NOT HATE
A SINNER WHOM HE CAN’T SAVE
AND HE
DOESN’T KNOW A BETTER TIME THAN THE PRESENT.
THIS COMPLETES OUR MESSAGE FOR TODAY.
If you have a Spiritual problem or Bible question you would like answered, or if you would
like to be remembered in our daily prayers, write to us.
GOOD-BYE, TUNE IN NEXT LORD’S DAY AT THIS SAME TIME AND SAME STATION. UNTIL
THEN, WALK IN HIS STEPS.
