ON THE COVERA gelatinous cube is nearing its final steps to awakening, lucky for it, a careless adventurer has crossed its path. Another delectable sacrifice for the cube’s path of cognitive ascension.

Juiblexian It is believed that when an ooze has consumed sentient life, from the primordial urge of destruction and ruin, there is an intellectual ascension. An ooze, according to various demonomicons, is the fragmented offspring of the demon lord Juiblex. Some believe that the Faceless Lord bestows a select few of his scattered remnants with a modicum of intellect. Others fear that these sentient slimes are physical avatars for the Lord of Slimes. There are even some believe that these awakened slimes are born from the elemental planes where earth and water meet.

Essence of Chaos & Endless Hunger Whether a slime or ooze gains its sentience through demonic means or otherwise, ultimately, they are bound by an endless hunger and desire to consume all matter. When a juiblexian consumes something, it does so in the hopes of assimilation and transformation to become a more efficient lifeform.

Alien SentienceJuiblexians are awakened slimes or oozes that have taken a humanoid appearance. As for the origin of their newfound sentience, there are many speculative theories, but there is generally some commonality between them: the ooze devoured something or enough of something to reach an evolutionary pinnacle.

Formless HorrorsDue to their amorphous origins, juiblexians have no common form except when they return to their true form, which is usually a puddle of ooze or something similar. Some slimes can mimic humanoid shapes and other shapes masterfully, while others take on crude forms that merely serve as a reflection of their natures instead.

Juiblexian NamesJuiblexian are often given names by those who discover them upon the realization of their sentience. Many will adopt nicknames given to them by their companions or victims. Some take names based on the first sounds they made upon their awakening. Others choose new names to express their hopes for the newfound life.

Jubilexian Names: Argh, Blob, Fizz, Gak, Glob, Glop, Glug, Jell, Liquid, Moob, Mixture, Morpheus, Odd, Plasma, Splatt, Slurm, Slimer, Thing, Viscous

Juiblexian TraitsYour ooze character has an assortment of abilities from their slimy nature.

Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 2.

Age. A typical Juiblexian is between two and one hundred years old. The maximum lifespan of one remains elusive and often inconclusive, most Juiblexians show no signs of deterioration due to age.

Alignment. Most oozes are neutral, though there are some that develop their complex system of morals based on the beings they have consumed across their existence. Some scholars believe their spiritual essence colors a juiblexian’s moral demeanor.

Size. Your size is medium. Most juiblexian stand roughly 5 to 6 1/2 feet tall. Weight and build are affected by their subrace and aesthetical choice.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet. Amorphous Ooze. Your ooze nature is represented in

the following benefits. • You can move through a space as narrow as 1 inch wide

without squeezing. • Due to the lack of a true physical structure, a juiblexian

has advantage on saving throws against being blinded, deafened, exhaustion, or knocked prone.

• You are immune to poison and the poisoned condition. • You do not need sleep and don’t suffer the effects of

exhaustion due to lack of rest, and magic can’t put you to sleep.Blind Vision. While in humanoid form, you can appear

to have eyes. They do not function like other races. Instead, you have Blindsight up to 60 feet, using ambient sound and via consumption of air particles to smell their quarry. Beyond this range, you are blind and cannot perceive beyond it.

Gelatinous Trance. When you take a long rest, you must spend at least six hours in an inactive, motionless state, rather than sleeping. In this state, you appear inert, but it doesn’t render you unconscious, and you can see and hear as normal.

Language. You can speak, read, and write in Common, Abyssal, and one language of your choice.

Subrace. A juiblexian is born from the near-infinite variety of slimes and oozes across the planes. Their inherent nature continues in their ascended state, though they also take on qualities not found in their mindless brethren. There are three distinct natures: Corrosive, sometimes called ruiners; Blasphemy, sometimes called weirds; and Mnemonic, which are sometimes called mimics.

3

CorrosiveAs the name suggests, your inherent nature delves with consumption of matter. Corroding, devouring, dissolving, and withering everything within your reach. While this destructive quality may seem malevolent, you impart the promise of decay and eventual death of all things. Kingdoms and dynasties do not last forever and neither will your foes.

Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 1.

Caustic Touch. When you make an unarmed strike, you deal 1d4 + your Strength modifier acid damage instead of the normal damage.

Corrosive Body. You have resistance to acid damage. In addition, a creature that touches or hits you with a melee attack while within 5 feet of you takes 1d4 acid damage. The damage increases to 1d6 at 6th level, 1d8 at 11th level, and 1d10 at 16th level.

BlasphemyYou defy the laws and properties of nature with your consumption of energy and elemental forces. Most blasphemy juiblexians are born from an elemental spark from the inner planes and all the blended areas between them. There are others that are born from the resonance of arcane magic, what some call “living spells” or weirds.

Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma score increases by 1.

Elemental Chaos. Your body is a storm of elemental energies, with some of those energies becoming dominant for a short time. While not wearing armor, you gain the benefit of resistance to a damage type.

Each time you finish a long rest, roll a d8. The number rolled determines your damage resistance until you finish another long rest.

d8 Damage Type

1 Acid

2 Cold

3 Electricity

4 Fire

5 Lightning

6 Poison

7 Thunder

8 Roll twice more, rerolling any 8s

In addition, whenever you roll damage of the same type, you can treat any 1 on a damage die as a 2.

Innate Spellcasting. You know the thaumaturgy cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast color spray spell once with this trait, and you regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the web spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.

JuiblExiaN QuiRks

Many juiblexians often find physical beings, what them as “solids” to limited or odd. This sometimes manifests through plain ignorance, misintpreted curiosity, or a flaw upon its sentience. A juiblexian player can choose to roll or select a trait from the Juiblexian Quirks table.

1d10 Quirk

1 You don’t understand emotions and often misread emotional cues.

2 You are obsessed with your appearance, and constantly adopt features from different creatures you meet.

3 You always feel hungry and often start grabbing the nearest edible source of nourishment.

4 You learned about the world by devouring it, you sometimes take objects and ingest them to learn about it.

5 You always have an anacedotal tale about your times in your original ooze form.

6 You don’t understand clothing beyond its utility and try to change your appearance to match.

7 You find talking tiresome and sometimes revert back to talking about vibrations through your ooze-like surface.

8 Your are curious about the rituals of the “solids” and obsess on learning about them.

9 You feel alone and seek to find others like you, either to consume them or bask in their company.

10 You are always willing to show off your amorphous qualities, becoming half-liquid, half-solid at a glance, and you always assume other beings can do it too.

MnemonicYou were born from an amalgam of memories, souls, and thoughts. Your sentience was not earned through demonic blessings or eldritch flux, but from the beings, you devoured along the way. Due to your mysterious origins, you possess the hightest capability of mimicking humanoids and their shapes. In your natural form, resemble a puddle of ooze with shadow visages swirling within. Many refer to your kind as mimics, though some may confuse you for an oblex.

Ability Score Increase. Your Intelligence score increases by 1.

False Appearance. As an action, you can transform your appearance. You decide what you look like, including your height, weight, facial features, the sound of your voice, coloration, hair length, sex, and any other distinguishing characteristics. You can make yourself appear as a member of another race, though none of your game statistics change. You also can’t appear as a creature of a different size than you, and your basic shape stays the same; if you’re bipedal, you can’t use this trait to become quadrupedal, for instance. Your clothing and other equipment don’t change in appearance, size, or shape to match your new form, requiring you to keep a few extra outfits on hand to make the most compelling disguise possible.

Even to the most astute observers, your ruse is usually indiscernible. If you arouse suspicion, or if a wary creature suspects something is amiss, you have advantage on any Charisma (Deception) check you make to avoid detection.

You can also assume the appearance of any creature you have consumed through your Mnemonic Echoes feature. You can retain a number of appearances equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of 1).

Mnemonic Echoes. The myriad of dissonant voices echoes within your being, granting you knowledge not your own. You gain skill proficiency of your choice, one tool proficiency of your choice, and fluency in one language of your choice.

Whenever a humanoid creature dies within 5 feet of you, you can spend your reaction to consume the target. Once consumed, after your next long rest, you may change either your skill proficiency, tool proficiency, or language fluency to one of the proficiencies or languages of the creature.

Racial FeatsThere are several ways for a Juiblexian to evolve over the course of a campaign. If your DM allows the use of feats to customize your character, the DM decides whether or not the following feats are available in a campaign.

Morphic Body Prerequisite: Juiblexian

You do not possess the normal anatomy of a solid being, allowing you to shift or move vital organs out of harm’s way. You gain the following benefits: • Increase your Constitution score by 1, to a maximum of

20. • Whenever you are hit by an attack that is a critical hit,

you can use your reaction to turn the triggering attack to a normal hit.

Slime ShotPrerequisite: Juiblexian (Corrosive)

You learn to hurl a piece of caustic gunk at a target. As an action, you can a ranged attack at a creature you can see within 30 feet. On a hit, the target takes damage as if it was hit by your Corrosive Touch feature, and the next attack roll made against the target before the end of your next turn has advantage. Once you use this ability, you can’t do so again until you finish a short or long rest.

Eldritch AdmixturePrerequisite: Juiblexian (Blasphemy)

You can mix some of your elemental energies along with any spells you cast that deals damage.

As a bonus action, when you roll damage for a spell, you can reroll a number of dice up to your Charisma modifier to deal damage as the type based on your Elemental Chaos feature. If you have two resistances active, choose one of them for this ability. Once you use this ability, you can’t do so again until after you finish a long rest.

Haunting MimicryPrerequisite: Juiblexian (Mnemonic)

When you assume a form of a consumed humanoid, you also devour their thoughts and memories. You gain the following benefits: • Increase your Intelligence or Charisma score by 1, to a

maximum 20. • Whenever you assume an appearance of a creature

consumed by your Mnemonic Echoes feature, you gain access to all information that the humanoid would freely share with a casual acquaintance. Such information includes general details on its background and personal life but doesn’t include secrets. The information is enough that you can pass yourself off as the person by drawing on its memories.

• Your uncanny portrayal of the Mnemonic Echoes strikes fear to even those who knew them in life. If you speak to a humanoid for at least 1 minute, you can attempt to spark paranoia in their mind. At the end of the conversation, you make a Charisma (Deception) check contested against the target’s Wisdom (Insight) check. On a success, the target is frightened of you for 1 hour, unless it is attacked or damaged, or until it witnesses its allies being attacked or damaged. If the target succeeds on its saving throw, the target has no hint that you tried to frighten it. Once you use this ability, you can’t do so again until after you finish a short or long rest.
