MSME proposals should be viable enough to attract bank funding

Country's MSME sector requires more financial support from the banks to set up businesses, but the business proposals will have to be viable to attract funding from the banks, a senior government official has said. Country’s MSME sector requires more financial support from the banks to set up businesses, but the business proposals will have to be viable to attract funding from the banks, a senior government official has said. “The MSME sector requires more financial support from the banks to set up businesses. Since credit facilities are not easily available for the sector, MSME business proposals have to be viable enough to attract funding from the banks,” SN Tripathi, Union Additional Secretary and Development Commissioner, Ministry of MSME, said here today. Speaking at the 7th National Conference on ‘MSME Financing and Strengthening MSME Linkages’, Tripathi said “it is therefore very important for the new startups to ensure that they come up with good and viable proposals which have a lot of potential and future sustainability.” Describing the MSME sector as backbone of India’s economic growth, Tripathi also highlighted the schemes and new policies introduced by the Centre to promote the MSME sector and new start-ups in the country. The Credit Guarantee Fund Scheme for Micro and Small enterprises (CGTMSE) had already been launched with an objective to make credit available to Micro and Small Enterprises for loans upto Rs 100 lakh without collateral or third party guarantees, Tripathi said. Stating that Indian banks prefer to give asset-based loan and not proposal-based funding to new businesses, Tripathi suggested to the banks to focus more on good proposals to encourage new businesses to come forward. Talking about various schemes and support, he informed that the Centre has approved “Technology Centre Systems Programme (TCSP)”, under which 15 new technology

centres would be developed and other existing centres would be upgraded. To make the MSME sector more competitive, the ministry has given infrastructure assistance to develop clusters under the lean manufacturing scheme. Also schemes have been introduced for training and research purposes to enhance competitiveness of the sector. Passenger vehicle sales to cross 3 million for the first time in FY17 A sharp pickup that the market is witnessing of late is boosting the confidence of automakers. After an impressive July, passenger vehicle sales in August are estimated to have grown 11-12% to 2.45-2.50 lakh, led primarily by strong demand for vehicles from Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai Motor India. India's passenger vehicle market is gearing up to hit double-digit growth in fiscal 2017 after four years, with the auto industry expecting sales to cross the 3 million mark for the first time. A sharp pickup that the market is witnessing of late is boosting the confidence of automakers. After an impressive July, passenger vehicle sales in August are estimated to have grown 11-12% to 2.45-2.50 lakh, led primarily by strong demand for vehicles from Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai Motor India. They are hoping for a bumper festival season, supported by improved sentiment in the rural economy after good monsoon rains, salary hike for government staff and strong macroeconomic indicators. According an analysis done by ET, the market has expanded around 10% during the first five months since the fiscal year began in April. The festival season starts in September with Ganesh Chaturthi and Onam. Companies like Maruti Suzuki are already boosting their estimates for the year. The local market leader hopes sales to expand 11-12% this fiscal year, compared with its earlier estimate of 7-8%, Maruti Suzuki Executive Director RS Kalsi said.

The buoyancy is being felt in the market and we feel the market is marching towards double-digit growth and we will try to do better than the industry," Kalsi told ETAuto. It is not just the wholesale push, but even the retail sales are matching the numbers and growth may be seen across carmakers, he said. Maruti Suzuki, which is facing capacity constraint, is tweaking holidays for staff as part of efforts to meet festival demand. Anuraag Mehrotra, the executive director for sales and marketing at Ford India, said the company is already witnessing a strong momentum that comes with festivals. "Our sales growth in Kerala in August was to tune of 40%, which is the highest seen in recent years. We expect this positive momentum to spread across the country," he said. For the first eight months of this calendar year, the market has grown 6-7%, but the festive season sale accounting for significant chunk of annual sales, Ford anticipates the market to break into double digit for fiscal 2017. With interest rates at a low, fuel prices being fairly under control and discounting and offers to remain high, industry experts anticipate a buoyant festive season this year. In the two wheelers space, too, manufacturers expect the growth momentum to continue. The local two-wheeler arm of Japanese auto major Honda Motor expects a strong festive season for two wheeler market too. YS Guleria, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, said he expects cumulative growth of 20% between August and November in two-wheeler sales. The local two-wheeler unit of Japanese Honda Motor made its highest-ever dispatch in August to be ready for the festive season, he said. "In July, we sold 4.5 lakh which included both domestic and exports and in August we have crossed 4.5 lakh in domestic sales," he said.

Expect to see good growth in light and medium vehicles sales: Vinod Aggarwal of Eicher Motors Excerpts from the interview with ET ET Now: What are the demand trends that you are seeing ahead of the festive season? Vinod Aggarwal: We are positive for this short- to medium-term. Especially for the festive seasons, I think the demand is going to be good and more especially because September still will be sluggish because last year in September there was lot of pre-buying because of ABS and few other regulatory implementations and this year, of course, from October because last year October was low, so this year October onwards which is also festive season, we should see good demand. ET Now: If I look at the Ashok Leyland data, sales data which we have got from Tata Motors, so do you think what we saw in the month of July and August was more like an aberration? Vinod Aggarwal: Yes, in fact, that is what I mentioned that even in September also you will see the negative trend because last year there was pre-buying that happened and then, of course, the trend is also negative in July, August and September because lot of replacement happened in the heavy duty trucks. There is going to be good growth coming from next month in light and medium-duty trucks which is again linked to festive and good monsoons. However, if you look at the other light and medium-duty trucks, there is going to be good growth coming from next month which is again linked to festive; good monsoons and also there is impact of the Seventh Pay Commission, people will have good money in their hands and because of which you will see good demand in the FMCG and two wheelers. And, of course, based on that, you will get good movement of goods and services and that should again lead to the good demand in trucks so that is what... We are expecting from October onwards we should see good demand and then, of course, we are looking forward to it. ET Now: Would it still ensure even if that is the case that the dispatch numbers or the volume numbers for the months ahead would continue to look strong because of the other factors, I

mean mining and construction and a few other activities? Vinod Aggarwal: No there are few positive things which are happening like if you take construction, construction trucks they are continuously growing. Even in the month of August, there was a growth of 12-15% in construction trucks and YTD this year growth is 40% in construction trucks. But if you look at the construction trucks overall, they are still less than the earlier peak. The earlier peak was around five, five-and-a-half thousand per month. We are still at around 4000 per month. So there is still room for growth in the construction trucks. Similarly you will see good growth coming in the light and medium-duty trucks because the earlier peak used to be around 9000-10,000 units per months. We are still at around 6000 units per month. So you will see good growth coming from light and medium-duty, good growth coming from construction trucks. There are few positive things which are happening like if you take construction. Even in the month of August, there was a growth of 12-15% in construction trucks and YTD this year growth is 40% in construction trucks. You may see some tapering down of growth in the heavy-duty trucks in the haulage segment because haulage segment is already at its peak. So overall based on the infrastructure, based on construction trucks and based on the light and medium-duty trucks and then, of course, added positivity based on good monsoon and good rural incomes, I think overall we are looking at good growth going forward from October. Maruti Suzuki's cumulative exports cross 15 lakh vehicles Automobile major Maruti Suzuki India on Friday said it has attained cumulative exports of 15 lakh vehicles. The automobile manufacturer said these vehicles have been exported to over 100 countries including Europe, Latin America and Africa. According to the car maker, although exports business is inherently subject to economic and policy changes in the destination countries, the company has been able to maintain an upward

trend in exports over the years. "Maruti Suzuki has consistently maintained a presence in international markets, regularly offering new products and reaching out to new countries," said Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director and Chief Executive of Maruti Suzuki. "Our products like Zen, A-Star, Maruti 800 and Alto have made a mark overseas, including in the most competitive markets of Europe." Akayuwa said the company's premium hatchback Baleno, manufactured exclusively in India, became the first car to be exported from India to Japan early this year. "It has become a symbol of the Make in India mission of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and taken India's exports story to a new level," Ayukawa added. The company stated that in 2015-16, the top five exported models for the company were Alto, Swift, Celerio, Baleno and Ciaz. "Among destinations, Sri Lanka, Chile, Philippines, Peru and Bolivia emerged as the top markets for Maruti Suzuki export models," the car maker said in a statement. "The newly launched light commercial vehicle, Super Carry, is also exported to South Africa and Tanzania and will be exported to SAARC countries in the future." Indian Pig Iron, steel scrap prices increase unseasonal than normal Indian prices of Steel Grade pig Iron etc., along with Steel scrap prices in Indian market has noticed sudden spurt in price. Normally during September & October the scrap prices tend to slow down but a slow growth in steels sector coupled with shortages in the market has added fuel to the price trend. Buyers are reluctant and are willing to wait and watch mode and are opting for as and when required buying mode. Generally the production levels are supposed to be lower during this season as the approaching Monsoon sessions in the southern part of the country. Clear trend will assume during the beginning of October, till then the buyers are watchful and reluctant to budge to the increased market.

TRIMET GROWS AND FOCUSES ON IMPROVED FLEXIBILITY IN PRODUCTION Trimet Aluminium SE increased its sales of aluminum products in the 2015/2016 fiscal year (June 30). Some 3,000 employees at eight locations produced approximately 775,000 tons of aluminum and cast iron products, five percent more than last year. The materials specialist continues to invest in sustainable growth in order to serve the increasing demand for high-quality aluminum products and test the flexibility of the manufacturing process. The capacities of the aluminum smelters, foundries and refineries were fully utilized in the 2015/2016 fiscal year. The expansion of production capacity and plant modernization measures, in which the family-owned enterprise has invested a total of 84 million euros, came to fruition. Despite persistently low global market prices for aluminum, the Trimet Group achieved a slightly improved adjusted result of 63 million euros compared to last year. This was driven in particular by higher production volumes at Trimet locations in France. “We will continue our policy of qualitative growth. With continuous investments at all production locations, we are optimally positioning ourselves to face the rising demand for aluminum and are constantly improving our production efficiency. Through the further development of production facilities and the tighter integration of our locations, we can more flexibly serve the current demand, secure long-term jobs and maintain our position as a provider of high-quality aluminum products for all stages of the material chain,” said Dr. Martin Iffert, CEO of Trimet Aluminium SE. In recent years, Trimet has developed a process that makes use of flexible load shifting, thereby adjusting the electrolysis process to fluctuating amounts of electricity from wind and solar energy. Following completion of the test phase, Trimet will now test the process on an industrial scale. By the end of 2017, all 120 furnaces in an electrolysis hall of the aluminum smelter in Essen will be converted. The company will be investing around 36 million euros over the next two years to this end.
