FRIDAY, AUGUST 3 2012 THE INNER CITY WEEKENDER

T he London Olympics may be the only thing on television at the moment with all your favourite shows currently on a break,

but one thing that’s not resting this Olympics is ‘Chatter on the Box’ and here it is….

Speaking of the London Olympics, I’m sorry Channel Nine but your coverage sucks. Not only are the entire telecasts fi lled with a million ads and television promos but what I fi nd most annoying is when I’m halfway through enjoying a sport and Nine decides to switch to something else or throw to an ad break – it’s like they are literally controlling my life. Thankfully I have FOX Sports and their coverage on their eight dedicated channels has been of a gold medal standard.

In some major news throughout the week, Logie Award-winning Channel Ten morning program ‘The Circle’ received the dreaded axe. Many industry insiders predicted Ten’s

struggling ‘Breakfast’ program would be the fi rst to go, however that wasn’t the case. Ten issued a statement from CEO, James Warburton on the shocking news: “The decision to cease production of ‘The Circle’ is unfortunate and was not taken lightly. But tight fi scal control and cost discipline are a core part of our strateg,”.

So with ‘The Circle’ now out of the circle, Ten has put together a brand new weekday morning line-up which will feature a number of US titles including – ‘The Talk’, a US weekday

talk show hosted by Sara Gilbert; ‘Entertainment Tonight’, the world’s most-watched entertainment news program that previously featured on Nine; and ‘The Insider’, a spin-off of ‘Entertainment Tonight’. Ten’s new schedule begins on Monday, August 6.

‘Nine News’ is Sydney’s most watched news program after it won the ratings battle week after week. ‘Nine News’ has won the weekly ratings 21 weeks of the year to Seven’s one week. There are 40 offi cial survey weeks in 2012. Congratulations

to the Weekender’s own Peter Overton, the face of ‘Nine News’, on this achievement.

I must say Channel Nine may fi nally be on a winner with their upcoming comedy/drama ‘House Husbands’. The show’s story line appears unique and fresh, unlike what Nine tried to do with ‘Tricky Business’, which was a carbon copy of ‘Packed to the Rafters’. ‘House Husbands’, which will begin after the Olympics, features a brilliant all-star cast that includes Gary Sweet, Rhys Muldoon, Gyton Grantley and Firass Dirani.
