Jesus’ Parting Words to His Followers There has been a consistent weakness in EVERY church I have engaged with the revitalization process. Without fail, the failings have been in the areas of discipleship and evangelism. Jesus’ two parting commands were “Go, disciple and baptize” – Matthew 28:18-20 and “be faithful witnesses, even unto death” – Acts 1:8. We must be equippers leading others to Christ and discipling them to become passionate gospel sharers. We must be faithful to obeying His final words before leaving planet earth. I am convinced it takes a strong leader and an intentional process to help believers live out our Lord’s final commands in this post-Christian world. Here are emphases to following His example: 1. Lead others to repent - Acts 20:20,21 2. Pass on the faith to others –2 Timothy 2:2 3. Be a Sold-out Witness - Acts 1:8 Wet baptistries, worn prayer altars and weekly praise testimonies of new converts and transformed lives are signs of successful renewal, personal revival and corporate revitalization. So what tools can a leader offer that will position the congregation for successful renewal?

1. Teach them to share their testimony in two minutes or less – naturally and confidently! 2. Preach on the reality of hell and grieve with them over the horror of others ending up there. 3. Equip them to be faithful in giving quality time to train new believers.

Here are some excellent tools to help strengthen the areas of discipleship and evangelism: The Navigators Designed for Discipleship Series - https://www.navigators.org/resource/dfd-design-for-

discipleship-series/ When Paul stood before King Agrippa (Acts 26), he spoke clearly about his life before salvation, how he

met Christ, and what his life was like after conversion. Use his format and design your testimony to be shared in 90 -120 seconds.

Paul E. Little’s, Know What You Believe and Know Why You Believe. Two great works to get a new believer started in biblical doctrine and apologetics.

William Fay’s, Share Jesus without Fear. GBA has the leader’s Kit for you to check out. http://www.sharejesuswithoutfear.com/products

William Fay’s original version was entitled, How Can I Share My Faith without an Argument. Free down-load from Our Daily Bread Ministries: https://discoveryseries.org/courses/how-can-i-share-my- faith-without-an-argument/ GBA has a workbook to copy for leader/student use.

Some additional suggestions:

Encourage your people to choose the center seat and leave the end seats for guests. Present the gospel in the common language of the people. Teach your congregation - “Every Member is a Minister”. Offer regular opportunities for mission action within your service area. Develop patterns, not programs. Believers reproducing themselves in new converts! EXPECT the laborers to go into the fields. We are saved to serve, not to be sloths. Do something new and outlandish for the glory of God! Remember - Our calling has eternal significance. It IS a matter of life and death.

Remember to give your tithe when you’re away or when inclement weather

keeps us from joining together in worship!

Pastor Andre’ Dobson has been at Calvary Baptist Church for 24 years. They are blessed with a great staff and a myriad of willing volunteers. They have made an impact in Alton since July 25, 1928.
