Each day, he ran the equivalent of a marathon, roughly 26 miles. This, in and of itself, was an amazing feat, but what made it even more amazing was that Fox ran every mile on one leg. Fox’s own cancer forced doctors to amputate his right leg just above the knee in order to save his life so Fox ran with a prosthec leg. As he ran across his country, reporters would oſten put and ask Terry how his run for cancer was going and, exhausted and losing valuable strength, Terry would say, “I don’t know about tomorrow, but God gave me another day, and I’m thankful for each day I’m alive.” Sadly, Fox’s cancer consumed his body and he did not live to complete his task. But, while his remarkable story is inspiring for many people, it is also convicng for many of us. I mean, think about it… do we have the same thankful atude and joy for life as a terminally ill amputee named Terry Fox? Unfortunately, too many of us would probably say, “No, life is really hard and seems to be geng harder every day, so I can't find any reason to be thankful.” If you feel this way, perhaps you should remember the words of a well-known lesson called “I’m Thankful for…” This lile gem shows up in mass e-mails and on Facebook every once in a while but, especially at this me of year, it serves as a stark reminder that, though we may be going through difficult mes, we sll have so much for which we can be thankful. It reads in part: I am thankful for... ...the mess to clean up aſter a party because it means I have been surrounded by friends. ...the taxes I pay because it means that I'm employed. ...the clothes that fit a lile too snug because it means I have enough to eat. ...lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning and guers that need fixing because it means I have a home. ...my huge heang bill because it means that I am warm. ...the alarm that goes off in the early morning hours because it means that I am alive. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 reminds us to “Give thanks in all circumstances.” Now, that doesn’t mean “all circumstances” will be pleasant. It means that, in everything, we can find a reason to be thankful. Keeping this in mind, I wish you all a happy and joyful Thanksgiving and may your messes be many; may your clothes be too snug; and may your alarms be noisy. Peace and Presence, Rusty

During these times when many people believe that there is little for which to be thankful, it might help to put things into perspective to read the story of Terry Fox. Fox was a Canadian distance runner who started a run from one side of Canada to the other in an effort to raise money for cancer research. Each day, he ran the equivalent of a marathon, roughly 26 miles. This, in and of itself, was an amazing feat, but what made it even more amazing was that Fox ran every mile on one leg. Fox’s own cancer forced doctors to amputate his right leg just above the knee in order to save his life so Fox ran with a prosthetic leg. Sadly, Fox’s cancer consumed his body and he did not live to complete his task. But, while his remarkable story is inspiring for many people, it is also convicting for many of us. I mean, think about it… do we have the same thankful attitude and joy for life as a terminally ill amputee named Terry Fox? Unfortunately, too many of us would probably say, “No, life is really hard and seems to be getting harder every day, so I can't find any reason to be thankful.” If you feel this way, perhaps you should remember the words of a well-known lesson called “I’m Thankful for…” This little gem shows up in mass e-mails and on Facebook every once in a while but, especially at this time of year, it serves as a stark reminder that, though we may be going through difficult times, we still have so much for which we can be thankful. It reads in part:

I am thankful for...

...the mess to clean up after a party because it means I have been surrounded by friends.

...the taxes I pay because it means that I'm employed.

...the clothes that fit a little too snug because it means I have enough to eat.

...lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning and gutters that need fixing because it means I have a home.

...my huge heating bill because it means that I am warm.

...the alarm that goes off in the early morning hours because it means that I am alive.

This is their major fundraiser for their church.

The cost of the tamales are $9 per dozen (same as last year).

The tamales are cooked and ready to eat or to freeze for later.

If you would like to place an order or have any questions about these delicious tamales, please call Maggie Sauceda at 361-728-1200. Orders must be picked up at La Trinidad, 2634 Tarlton. The phone number at the church is 361-883-2093. If there are enough pre-paid orders for Sunday, December 7, La Trinidad will deliver to FCC to distribute that morning.

La Trinidad would like to thank FCC for the help to them in past years, and they do appreciate our support.

Thanksgiving Feast

FCC will share a Thanksgiving Feast this Sunday, November 23, following the service in Fellowship Hall. Please bring either a

side dish or dessert. Hope you join us as we count our blessings.

Nativity Scenes

We would like to display Nativity scenes in the glass cabinet just past the Fishbowl (across from the Library) for the Advent Season.

We are asking if you would like to share a Nativity scene from your collection bring it to the church office. You can

leave it on the shelf below the hospital chalk board. Please make sure that your name is on your scene for easy identification. We have room to display many of them.

The children always love all of the presents that we give to them.

Christian Women’s Fellowship News

CWF Fall Fundraiser

The CWF Holiday Bake/Craft Sale Fundraiser will be held Sunday, November 23, in Fellowship Hall before, after, and during our Thanksgiving Feast Fellowship Luncheon. All women of the Church are members of CWF, and all families are encouraged to share a home-cooked creation or home-made arts and craft item for this fundraiser! This is the Sunday before Thanksgiving, and we know our Church Family would love to take home several of these wonderful food delights for the holidays!

We will also have raffle tickets available for a beautiful twin-bed sized afghan which has been generously donated by Nancy Fly! This afghan is on display for all to see. There is also a wagon made with a wooden coca cola crate donated by Drew Terry. The tickets are $5 each or 3 or $10

Would YOU be willing to bake a cake, pie, cupcakes, cookies, brownies, casserole, or soup for this Fundraiser so that CWF can continue to serve the needs of our Church? In the past, CWF funds have been used to purchase a refrigerator, dishwasher, stove, and various small appliances and kitchen supplies. We ask that you plate and clear-wrap your contribution with a generous price tag

attached and bring them to Fellowship Hall this Sunday. Suggested prices include:

Cakes & pies $15 Dozen cupcakes, cookies, brownies $8 Single cookies, brownies $1 each Gallon of Soup $10 Quart of Soup $5 Veggie Casseroles $10 Meat Casseroles $15

For those of you whose talents are not necessarily found in the kitchen, we would love this opportunity to showcase your donation of home-made arts and crafts items, such as jewelry, painting, photographs or wood crafts! Pricing would be totally up to your discretion.

Even if you are unable to stay for the Fellowship Thanksgiving Luncheon on Sunday, November 23, we hope you will take just a few moments to stop by Fellowship Hall and pick out your favorite dessert for the holidays or maybe even do some early Christmas shopping! WE HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!

—Blessings, CWF Executive Board

Ministry Reports

Pastor Support Ministry The Pastor Support Ministry, previously called the Pastor Relations Committee, will meet December 3rd. This ministry will meet quarterly or on an as needed basis to support Pastor Rusty and his family and to discuss any items that have been brought froth by the Ministry Council, our Elders or by individual members of the congregation. Members of this Ministry are Pastor Rusty, Amy Wright, Kelle Clark, Rick Ott, Risha Dulip-Long, Trey McCampbell & Terry Klinger. If you have an item you would like to have the Pastor Support Ministry discuss, please communicate the item to any of the members of this ministry.

Property Ministry The Property Ministry submitted a proposal to the Ministry Council to have trees trimmed on the entire church property, the ministry council approved the proposal, all of the work will be done in the next couple of weeks. In addition the property Ministry is undertaking a complete inventory of lighting and electrical needs of our church and the grounds surrounding our facility beginning with outside lighting and the sanctuary and then continuing throughout the facility, prioritizing any electrical work needed. You will notice the improvements and enhancements in the coming months and throughout 2015. The Property Ministry is finalizing a plan whereby members of the congregation can adopt an area of the grounds of our church to take care of the details of the plantings beyond mowing the grass, the grass will continue to be mowed b our current lawn maintenance company under the terms of the existing contract. The areas of the grounds for adoption (see diagram below) will be available soon in the atrium.

Evangelism & Outreach Ministry Beans & Rice

For many years, CWF has been a faithful sponsor of the Beans & Rice Ministry, which was started by its founder, Feliberto Pereira of the Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries. This ministry provides emergency food for the hungry in the Rio Grande Valley and Mexico. Hundreds of thousands of refugees, orphans, and members of impoverished communities in Texas and Mexico have been fed over the past 25 years. Today, the beans & rice programs provide 90,000 pounds of these basic staples to needy families, isolated villages and orphanages, and children's’ homes on both sides of the U.S. and Mexico border. In the past, First Christian actually collected individual packages of rice and bean. We have since discovered that our financial contributions, through Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries, can be utilized to purchase these foods in bulk so that our funds are able to touch many more improvised families. We appreciate so very much your past contributions to the Beans & Rice Ministry and encourage your continue giving. There will be a plastic receptacle jar available in the Narthex for your ongoing love offerings as we strive to serve as the Hand and Feet of Jesus outside the walls of our Church Home.

Warm Clothing for Good Sam’s There have been three trips so far to Good Sam Mission with the warm clothes we have collected. In the three trips we have taken almost 150 items, including hoodies, jackets, gloves, hats, and even two bundles of fire wood. We will be collecting the warm clothing through the end of November so if you have some warm clothing especially in large men’s sizes please bring them to the church and put in the boxes in the Narthex.
