Since 2005, this five-man group has toured nationally and abroad and has brought their unique, high-energy brand of a cappella to hundreds of thousands. The group has been seen on multiple TV shows, cruise ships, and in performing arts centers around the world. Now the group is based in Branson, Missouri, where they perform five shows per week at the Andy Williams Moon River Theatre.

The All Campus Meeting that was scheduled for October 18 has been rescheduled to Thursday, October 11; one week earlier. It will be held at 11:00 a.m., in the Missouri Recital Hall.

After a weekend of on-campus lectures and discussions, Cottey’s ENG/ENV 211: Excursions class (Show Me Missouri!: Missouri Writers & the Environment), taught by Drs. Mannel, Perkins, Pivak, and Stubblefield, traveled to Hannibal, St. Louis, and Mansfield, Missouri, September 21-23, 2012, to visit the Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum; the Mark Twain Cave; the Mississippi River; Calvary Cemetery (where Kate Chopin, Tennessee Williams, and Dred Scott) are buried; and the Laura Ingalls Wilder Home, Museum, and grave. Wellness Program

LEO students travelled to Kansas City on September 29. While there, students got their hands dirty by volunteering with Cultivate Kansas City, a locally-grown non-profit that helps people grow and eat good food in Kansas City neighborhoods. Students flipped one of the on-site hoop houses: they cleared the hoop house of weeds, ran sprinkler hose, planted potatoes, and mulched. After volunteering, students were joined by Professor Brianne Fulton for a picnic lunch from The Good You, a mobile eatery supporting local farmers and purveyors, at the Sculpture Park at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Following lunch, Professor Fulton gave students a guided tour of select sculptures in the park.

This trip was financially supported through the Kiekhofer and Andes Leadership Funds.

In partnership with Nevada High School and community donors, the Cottey College Presidential Leadership Program offers selected high school junior and senior women from Nevada High School the opportunity to learn leadership and prepare for college.

Twelve students have been selected to participate in this year-long, after-school program led by Dr. Judy Rogers, the President of Cottey College. Sessions focus on team-building, communication skills, networking with business cards, social protocol, and selecting a college.

Presidential Leadership ProgramSeptember winners for the Exercise Reward Program are Tracy Farrales, Elise Kimura-Tittle, and Tatiana Jones. There were 237 entries for September.

There are still a few openings for female employees who wish to participate in Bone Density testing on October 24, 2012, in the Chellie Club. Contact Karen Polon for an appointment time.

The Wellness Programs have come up with a name for the November 10 duathlon, it will be called the “Fall Splash and Dash!” Employees can start signing up now to participate in one or both events. The “Splash” will be a 500 yard swim (10 roundtrips or 20 one ways in the pool), and the “Dash” a 2-mile run/walk. Students can pair up with each other, with an employee or participate in both events on their own. Employees can pair up with another employee, a student, or do both events on their own. Contact Karen Polon if you would like to participate or if you need a partner. This event should be fun for the entire campus!

Human ResourcesIn observance of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Cottey College will be a participant in Lee National Denim Day on Friday, October 12, to raise money for the fight against breast cancer. Lee Jeans is now in partnership with the American Cancer Society. 50 percent of the net proceeds raised from Lee National Denim Day will benefit community-based programs including breast cancer screenings and a free place for cancer patients and their loved ones to stay while in treatment away from home. The remaining 50 percent will help fund national research grants working to find a cure for breast cancer. Last year the Cottey Campus Community raised over $400 on Lee National Denim Day. If you would like to be a participant and wear jeans on Friday, October 12, please bring a $5.00 contribution in the form of a personal check to Linda Lee at Main Hall reception. In return, you will receive a pink ribbon (the national symbol for the fight against breast cancer) to wear to designate your donation. Checks should be made payable to Lee National Denim Day. Your canceled check will serve as your receipt for tax purposes. To learn more about Lee National Denim Day please visit www.denimday.com.

It's that time again—preparing for the flu season. BlueCross BlueShield of Kansas City will pay for the flu vaccination if you are a Cottey employee (and/or dependents) who is covered by the Cottey Health Plan. The flu vaccination is free from in-network providers. You must call your health care provider and make an appointment in order to receive the vaccination.

Also, flu vaccinations are being administered at Wal-Mart and Walgreens. These facilities are not associated with BlueCross and a fee will be incurred.

Currently the Office of Human Resources is advertising for a data entry clerk for the Office of Institutional Advancement.
