Below is a basic description of the main components of your chart. Memorizing these points about your chart will give you theability to describe it to any astrologer say at a party, or over the phone. These are the main points that any Vedic Astrologer wouldneed to know before discussing your chart. The zodiac is a belt of stars that surrounds the equator of the Earth and is divided intotwelve major divisions of space each being 30 degrees of the total 360 degrees of space surrounding the Earth. This "rising sign" sets upthe basic structure of your chart and is very important. Vimshottari is a Sanskrit word meaning 120, and Dasha means ‘State of Life’ or

‘Timeline’. In it means a State of life of One hundred and twenty years.

Generally, the first column is called

Maha-Dasha, a long period of time. The second column is called Bhukti, Antar-

Dasha or Sub-period and the third column is called the date the Maha-

Dasha or Bhukti started.
