Lagna is the main reference point of a horoscope.The house where the Ascendant (Lagna) is positioned is considered as the first house and all other houses are counted from this. Each house has a significator or Karaka. These signifying planets indicate the type of results one can derive from each house (Bhava).

1 st bhava (bhava Karaka - Sun) About oneself; spiritual position; appearance; complexion; joys and sorrows; adventure; merits and demerits of the body; fame; success in trials.

E.g. 1. Venus in the 7th – Harmful to your wife. But it will not affect the artistic talents bestowed by Venus.But do not mention this harmful effect, if the wife Karaka Venus is in the 7 th in its own house.

Sun in the 1 st bhava (in lagna) Tall; short haired; defective eyes (one who wears glasses); hot body; a person who worries a lot; a person who has greatness and dignity; impatient and unkind. Sun will be strong in the lagna and noblest in the 10 th bhava. One will get auspicious results when lagna is Sun’s own house or exaltation house and when Sun is positioned there.

Moon in the lagnaHandsome man; a person who is not sure of things. When full moon is in the lagna one will have longevity and learning. When Edava and Karkidaka become lagna and Moon is positioned there, one will be a rich man. If Moon is weak, one may be deaf and an invalid.
