Shot sequences

• The first few shots are extreme close ups of members of the band, from different angles. There is a shallow depth of field.

• The music video is very simple with lots of repeating shots. There are no special effects and just close ups of the band singing at the beginning. The camera doesn’t move, yet the band members jam along to create movement in the video.

• The video repeats lots of the same shots, which relates to the lyrics of ‘wait a minute now’ which are repeated over and over. The main singer doesn’t rock his head, but sings the main lyrics, where as the other two who provide the backing lyrics are moving along to the song.

Instruments

• Like the hate to say I told you so video. The Hives show themselves playing their instruments in this video. This backs up the point of them being a live band with an audience who will be interested in seeing them live. This is typical of the rock genre.

Video Theme• The style in this video is a lot

different to that of ‘Main Offender’ and ‘Hate to say you told you so.’ In those videos, there is theme of them all wearing suits and smart shoes in black and white. In this video, they stick to the black and white, but are wearing more casual clothes. This video is a lot more recent compared to the other two and you can see the band has changed. The video is very simple with lots of close ups. This creates intimacy with the audience, which is typical of this genre as most of The Hives’ fans would want to see the band live.

Special effects/Editing

• There are no special effects in this music video. The editing however is very fast paced and has a lot of fast cuts. The video is synced up to the song and cuts on certain beats. The lighting in the video is very simple as there only seems to be one light out of view of the camera. It is seen being moved around towards the end as the light in the video changes

Summary

• Like the ‘Hate to say I told you so’ Video, this video focuses primarily on the band, in comparison to Main offender, where the video has a story. This video would be easy to create as it is very simple yet effective. It makes the audience feel closer to the band as they are so close to you on the screen. The video also looks a lot more modern than previous videos by The Hives. It has a better quality camera with better detail, but also the change in outfit could show that The Hives are going for a new look.
