History of Crime Films

Crime films first began in 1903 with ‘The Great Train Robbery’ which laid the basis for the films to come afterwards. Other films around this time consisted of ‘The Musketeers of Pig Alley’ and ‘The Dead Man Who Killed.’ The world was then introduced to a new wave of crime films, a more dark and cynical type of films in the 1940’s probably due to the fact of the war at the time. This type of film was known as film noir but was a different type of crime film than what I am interested in with my film that I will be creating. Crime films began to gain popularity and become in the mainstream around the 70s and 80s with films such as ‘The Godfather’ and ‘Scarface’. These films captivated audiences as they gave insight into these criminal underworlds what people were hearing about at the time with gangsters and mob bosses being in the news in America. Crime films tend to follow the story of criminals where as most films tend to focus on hero’s as the main characters of the films.

British Football Crime Films ‘Green Street’ - A wrongfully expelled Harvard undergrad moves

to London, where he is introduced to the violent underworld of football hooliganism.

‘The Football Factory’ - The Football Factory is more than just a study of the English obsession with football violence, its about men looking for armies to join, wars to fight and places to belong.

‘I.D.’ - Four policemen go undercover and infiltrate a gang of football hooligans hoping to root-out their leaders. For one of the four, the line between 'job' and 'yob' becomes more unclear as time passes.

‘The Firm’ ‘Awaydays’ ‘Ultra’ ‘The Rise and Fall of a White Collar Hooligan’

The Film

I will be creating a film that is focused on the culture of football hooligans and the way of life that revolves around this. I am going to tak inspiration from not only the films that are of the same topic that I listed before but also the crime films that fundamentally include the similar aspects of football hooligan films.
