It is very encouraging that early indications show that our KS4 students have achieved a record overall average point score in their academic studies this year. It is particularly pleasing that our Pupil Premium students are closing the gap on other students by achieving exceptionally well in their academic and vocational courses. Our vocational programme continues to go from strength to strength and yet another vocational course, CARWRX, will be introduced in the new academic year. This course will provide our students with access to a range of mechanic related activities and qualifications, this should prove to be very popular with our students. I hope that you enjoy reading our final newsletter of the 2015.16 academic year, I am sure that you will agree that it is a very positive read to end the year with. It is very encouraging that early indications show that our KS4 students have achieved a record overall average point score in their academic studies this year. It is particularly pleasing that our Pupil Premium students are closing the gap on other students by achieving exceptionally well in their academic and vocational courses. Our vocational programme continues to go from strength to strength and yet another vocational course, CARWRX, will be introduced in the new

academic year. This course will provide our students with access to a range of mechanic related activities and qualifications, this should prove to be very popular with our students. As another consignment of Yr 11 students leaves the LPS Braunstone Skills Centre KS4 provision, we wish them all the best in their future endeavours and know that this year they have been our highest achieving cohort to date. The Pupil Premium Students will be leaving us with an average of 190pts. There are a number of qualifications still to be verified and added into the final points tally. When looking at this final figure we can see an overall average improvement of 65 points when compared with the 125pts average of the 2014-15 academic year. Students who attended BSC for more than three terms have also achieved very well. The early points figures are once again demonstrating a favourable increase on last year’s attainment data. With a number of qualifications still awaiting verification we are currently able to demonstrate that the three term YR 11 cohort has achieved an average of 260pts. This is an improvement of 50 additional points when compared to 210pts of the 2014-15 academic year. These fantastic achievements can only be realised through the hard work of the young people and the dedication, patience and perseverance of the entire KS4 team. I would like to thank the staff team for their stellar efforts and I hope they have a good summer break to rest and prepare for the challenges of the forthcoming academic year.

Carisbrooke Workshop makes Tree display for Evington Valley Primary School.

Evington Valley Primary School asked us to create a display for them, representing their Year 6’s who are leaving. We suggested a tree with a leaf for each of the 45 pupils to paint and adorn with a personal message. Staff at the Primary School loved the idea and asked for additional items such as birds and butterflies for them to embellish. When complete, the tree will be displayed outside in the playground.

Summer Term at Millgate Whilst we are waiting for the summer to start, we can report on another positive year at Millgate Lodge. We have seen lots of students pass through and achieving their individual targets in English, Maths, ICT and U-Explore. We have focussed on reading skills this year and encouraged the students to explore books and improve their reading experience. There has been a slight shift in the direction of our curriculum as we have had a good number of G.C.S.E. students attending. This has proved challenging for our staff as we have had to support our students with such diverse subjects as Science, Religious Studies, Geography, French, History and Sports Science as well as our usual Maths, English and ICT. However, we have seen great improvement in the students’ academic and social skills. Our Vocational support worker, James has had a very successful year with students leaving Millgate to embark on career driven

courses with students achieving a wide variety of achievements and awards. Finally, we here at Millgate Lodge are looking forward to the new challenges ahead and we would like to wish everyone in the service, parents and carers and all our students a pleasant summer break. Let’s hope for some sunshine!

Sports Day @ The Carisbrooke

The weather was perfect for the two Sports Days at the Carisbrooke Centre, held during the penultimate week of term. Groups took part in a variety of indoor and outdoor challenges, including the long jump, javelin and relay race. Points were accrued for each event and were totted up at the end of the day.

Well done to all the students who took part on Tuesday and Thursday. Hilroy

VOCATIONAL PROVISION

What a year it has been!! This academic year has seen an exceptionally high number of students accessing vocational packages with around 100 students per day on placements at its peak; and indications are showing that the number of Yr 11 leavers that have secured positive Post 16 destinations will be as high as it has been in recent years, which is fantastic. The Leicester Partnership School continues to provide students with a wide range of quality accredited courses, and I am pleased to announce that alongside our current portfolio of courses we will be launching a new and exciting Car Mechanics programme in September called CARWRX. This will be a hands on and practical course for all students undertaking aspects of engine work, braking systems, bodywork repairs and anything to do with cars. We are also working on potential new courses around Travel and Tourism and Computer Games Design which I hope to launch during the next academic year. I am also pleased to welcome Sharon Florey to the Vocational Team who joined us in April to deliver a valuable mentoring and support role for LPS students on vocational placements. She has brought the skills and experience from her previous employment into this role and has made a great start and settled in quickly.
