What is an hackathon ?

32 participants from all over Europe 11 teams composed of friends and/or

aviation enthusiasts who met there

We have been asked to write an ASTERIX decoder

All Purpose STructured Eurocontrol Radar Information EXchange

Eurocontrol Hackathon

It was expected to be

FLEXIBLE FAST a WORKING solution

What was expected ?

We have met at Politecnico di Torino, studying together during the last 5 years. We have attended a Computer Engineering program, with different specializations.

No previous hackathon experiences. It’s hard to believe, but this is so encouraging! :-)

We have different competences, an key-feature that let us to split up the work!

Our background

What we liked? ‣ 1st day PITCH -> checkpoint to verify our idea

‣ The help and the clarifications given

‣ The venue -> working areas, accommodation and food

‣ Final presentations -> great opportunity to learn from the other participants

What has been hard?

‣ The TIME -> not to be wasted! :-)

‣ To focus in a few hours on a specific topic and start making a working plan

‣Challenge and fun it’s a competition! :-)

‣Networking making connections with other people

‣Discovery explore new topics and face new issues

‣Personal improvement learn from the solutions of other teams

What this hackathon has been for ‘BLUECLOUD' team?

‣ To test your skills, as a student or an aviation enthusiast ‣ To build a team ‣ To share ideas with other people ‣ To learn from each others’ ideas

…and the last but not the least…

‣ Try to win the 2nd edition! :-)

• Further develop the winning solution • Implement key concepts from all the teams • Develop a Asterix library internally

• Develop the library for Operational Use (Safety) • Once done integrated it into operational software

• Put hackathon on the road – Serious Games
