Introduction

Congratulations on your purchase of a Guardian RCD protected portable

power outlet board. These units offer unsurpassed protection against

electric shock and overload in a wide range of applications.

The unit has been built tough for use by professional tradesmen who are

working in the field; or in the workshop.

This portable outlet board has been designed specifically with safety in

mind by utilizing AUTOSWITCHED outlets. These double pole outlets

allow power onto the plug only after the plug is inserted.

RCD/MCB (RCBO) – This device is a combination MCB and RCD. The

MCB protects against electrical overload. Should the connected load

exceed the maximum current operation of the MCB, the MCB will trip.

The RCD protects against electrocution or electrical shorts from active

circuits to earth.

• 1 x 10kA RCDBO per unit

• IP66 rated

• Class H compliant device

• Lockable RCD cover

• Press to TEST RCBO button

• Built tough to survive harsh working environments

• Status flags to show RCBO trip condition

• Auto switched outlets for added safety

(Outlets will not switch on until a plug is inserted)

Operating Instructions:

1. Fully uncoil the lead

2. Plug the unit into a mains connected socket outlet and turn on the

power switch at the socket

3. Undo the clear plastic window retaining screw, lift the cover and

switch the unit on by operating the toggle switch.

4. TEST THE RCBO before each and every use by depressing the

test button. This will immediately cause the unit to trip and shut off

the power to the socket outlets. If the RCBO fails to switch OFF

after depressing the test button then the unit should be immediately

taken out of service, tagged appropriately and not be used until

repaired by a qualified electrician or returned to Powersafe for

repairs.

5. Reset the toggle switch to the on position.

6. Repeat the process for the second RCBO fitted to the unit.

7. The unit is now ready for operation. Plug in your 240 volt appliance

and use as per the manufacturers operating instructions. No

electrical device should be operated or plugged in prior to checking

for physical damage and testing of the RCBO.

IMPORTANT

If this portable appliance is used in weather conditions (i.e. rain) then to ensure it

retains its IP rating, only use leads or appliances fitted with IP66 or similar type

plugs to maintain the IP rating required.

IP rated plugs are easily recognized by the screw thread on the plug which will

thread on the socket forming a seal against dust and water entry.

IP rated plugs are not required for operation, but if they are not used then the

unit does not maintain its IP rating and should not be used in adverse conditions

and only used where weather, water or dust will not cause failure to the unit and

or the possibility of electrocution.

Using the power board in adverse conditions, causing damage to the outlet due

to water or dust entry will void the warranty of the product.

Important Notes:

• In some applications this unit may require regular testing and tagging

to be compliant with state or national codes. Ensure you are familiar

with the regulations regarding uses of PSOA and if required, have

the unit regularly tested to ensure compliance. This is the

responsibility of the owner and/or user.

• Electricity is dangerous and the use of this product cannot be

regarded as a substitute for basic electrical safety precautions.

Ensuring the use of this product is within local or national electrical

codes is the responsibility of the owner and/or user.

• Unplug any equipment from power prior to inspection or repair.

• If the unit continually trips, or if trips at any time, you may be

operating a faulty appliance. Your appliance should be inspected by

a qualified electrician.

• A portable power outlet should never be plugged into a extension

lead (socket end). The unit should only be plugged into a power

outlet (power point) only. Extension leads (plug end) can then be run

from the portable power outlet.

• Do not use the product in flammable area.

• Do not use or store the equipment in adverse conditions.

• Do not immerse the product in water or liquids.

• Do not allow the product to come into contact with petroleum

products, alkaline detergents, industrial cleaners or any product that

can cause damage to the unit.

• Storage and use in adverse conditions may effect performance.

• Use of IP rated plugs is strongly recommended for prevention of dust

or moisture ingress of the unit.

• Test the operation of each RCBO before each and every use by

pressing the “Test” button. Failure to trip the RCBO requires the unit

to be repaired prior to use.

• Visually inspect the unit prior to every use. If there is any damage to

the unit then the unit should be taken out of operation until corrected.

Purpose and Operation:

NEVER USE A MEGA METER ON CIRCUITS WITH AN RCD, OR DAMAGE TO THE RCD MAY OCCUR

– VOIDING WARRANTY

RCD’s are designed to prevent electrocution by detecting the leakage

current, which can be far smaller than the currents needed to operate

conventional circuit breakers or uses. RCD’s are intended to operate

within 50 milliseconds, before electric shock can drive the heart into

ventricular fibrillation the most common cause of death through electric

shock.

The “Guardian” is fitted with an RCD combination that is designed to trip

at 30 milliamps. RCD’s operate by measuring the current balance

between two conductors using a differential current transformer.

This measures the difference between the current flowing out the live

conductor and that returning through the neutral conductor. If these do

not sum to zero, there is a leakage of current to somewhere else (to

earth/ground, or to another circuit), and the device will open its contacts.
