INVENTING THE TELEPHONE
The telephone started as a harmonic telegraph
In 1875, Bell was able to create a telephone like device
In 1876, Bell had successfully made a telephone that worked over 4 miles away
WITH OUT THE PHONE,
Just about every war after 1876 would have been lost
We would have telegraph booths instead of phone booths
We wouldn’t have cell phones, pagers, fax machines, or iPhones
Texting would be Morse code, sent from a telegraph in your house, to another one in your friends.
OTHER WORK
Alexander also worked on many things, like…
Hydrofoils- Struts on boats that make them faster
Metal detector- First made to find a bullet in U.S. President James Garfield.
Aeronautics- Heavier-than-air flying machines were still just being developed
FAMILY LIFE
Bell married on of his students, Mabel Hubbard.
They had 4 children, 2 boys, and 2 girls. Both boys died in infancy.
DEATH AND CONTROVERSY
Alexander died in 1922 due to complications from diabetes, leaving a huge controversy behind. Who takes credit for the telephone, Canada, or the US?
BELL’S WORK CONTINUED
Alexander Graham Bell’s work is still being continued to this very day. Any new cellphone, iPhone, or change to the Bell telephone company, is directly effecting something Alexander worked on, over 100 years ago. So, next time you’re texting your friends, or ordering delivery pizza, think about before Alexander. “.. / .-- --- ..- .-.. -.. / .-.. .. -.- . / ..--- / -- . -.. .. ..- -- / .--. . .--. .--. . .-. --- -. .. / .--. .. --.. --.. .- ... / .--. .-.. . .- ... . .-.-.-” means “I would like 2 medium pepperoni pizzas please.”
