Historical Sketch The Greater Lake Charles Chamber of Commerce began in 1913 with a charter as the “Association of Commerce” and was known by that name until 1967. The Chamber was an “action agency” designed to meet the needs of the business community. Run by a board of directors who were elected by the membership, its overall mission was community development. The Chamber later joined the Southwest Louisiana Economic Development Alliance.

Scope and Content Note The collection is an extensive photographic collection also containing slides, newspaper articles, cassette tapes, and other items from this organization of Calcasieu and Cameron Parish businesspeople. The materials cover the years 1964-1986.
