BOXWOOD BIG FREEZE Held last Saturday the Big Freeze fundraiser for Motor Neurone disease was an outstanding success raising over $70,000 to fund finding a cure for this devastating disease. Special guest ex Boxwood junior and Eagle Quinton Lynch happily pulled on the red and white for a chance to play with his old club and braved the icy dip down the slippery slide. A huge congratulations to the organisers and all the supporters who braved the chilly weather to be there. Thankyou also to the numerous donations of auction items from generous local businesses and people. Next year is Lake Grace Pingrup’s turn to host this event, Boxwood has set the bar pretty high !!!

BOOKCLUB REVIEW JUNE 2019 THE ARSONIST BY CHLOE HOOPER. The Arsonist: A Mind on Fire by award winning Australian author Chloe Hooper is a powerful piece of writing. It has been longlisted for the 2019 Stella Prize Because of its subject matter and the terror and revulsion that an arsonist can evoke, the book should have been difficult to read, but I read it quickly, drawn on by the skill and sensitivity of the writer The Arsonist: A Mind on Fire The Arsonist tells one of the possible stories of the day known in Australia as ‘Black Saturday’. On that day, 7 February 2009, 400 bush-fires ignited across the State of Victoria in catastrophic conditions, including extreme temperatures and high winds. The fires continued to burn out of control for the next sev-en days across the State of Victoria, killing people, stock and wildlife, and destroying property. This months book was Caz’s choice and she held it at Marnies. 8 Ladies got together and we welcomed newcomer Stacey. Its been a long time since we had a non fiction book. It was well written and we all found it confronting to read. But we all found it easy to read although a couple of us had to put it down and come back to it. It evoked a lot of discussion but as usual we did wander of track a couple of times. We all rated it quite high as we all learned something The next book club will be held on the 3
rd Monday as it will be school holidays and most of us will be
away on the 8th So it will be held at Gail Vaux’s on MONDAY 15
TH JULY
