Parts of the Endocrine System:Endocrine Glands: Responsible for releasing hormone into the blood stream.

Hormones: Chemical substances, released by the endocrine glands that regulate bodily activities.

Thyroid Glands: Located in the throat and produces thyroxin , which increases cell metabolism and regulates growth.

Parathyroid: Tiny gland in the thyroid that secrete parathormone which maintains calcium and phosphorus balance.

Pineal Gland: Located in the center of the brain and regulates activity levels throughout the day

Pancreas: Organ located between the stomach and small intestine that produces insulin and glucagon to regulate blood sugar

PITUITARY GLANDS Located on the bottom of the brain and produces the largest number of the body’s hormones, which include;

. Prolactin-Stimulates breast milk production and controls the menstrual cycleACTH- Signals adrenal glands and produces cortisol(steroid)Growth- Itormone(GIT)- Signals liver cells to produce

somatomedin which is artificial for child growth.FSH AND LH- Regulates testosterone, estrogen and

progestrogen.ADH- Stimulates kidney concentrate by taking water back into the blood steam.Gonads- Reproductive glands in the males and femalesAdrenal Glands- Located right above the kidneys

PARTS OF THE BODY EFFECTED BY THE ENDOCRINE SYSTEM

*Produces and secretes hormones throughout the body that effect cell activity, organ activity, regulation of bodily growth, metabolism, and sexual development.*Hypothalamus: Regulates metabolism and body temperature; also secretes somatostatin which signals the pituitary gland to stop releasing growth hormones. *Pituitary Glands stimulates growth and bone tissue*Adrenal Glands effects metabolism, balance of salt and water in the body, the immune system, and sexual function; also helps the body cope with physical and emotional stress.

WHAT HAPPENS IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG?

If the Endocrine System failed, the body wouldn’t grow properly.

Regulation of the blood pressure would stop

Regulation of water balance in the body would stop

How the Endocrine System Works

• This system is key in hormone production.• The variety of glad release different hormones into

the bloodstream.• The bloodstream then carries them to the different

cells and body parts.• Hormones bind themselves to the receptor cells

and transmits a signal that triggers an action such as organ function or development.

- The Pituitary gland produces a hormone called somatropin that travels to bones, muscles, and tissue to stimulate growth.

- Growth itormone Deficiency (GHD) is the condition of having too little somatotropin (growth hormone)

- Physical Symptoms: Growth failure, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), and micropenis (unusually small male reproductive organ.

Which gland could be considered the most important in the Endocrine System?
