PSSA Tennis Knockout

Last Thursday 28 July the combined JRAP schools tennis team consisting of Jane Haeusler (BCS), Mae Lucas (ACS), Jack Haw-

thorn (ACS) and Zac Dart (APCS) travelled to Wagga Wagga to play The Rock Central School in the Riverina Final of the PSSA

tennis knockout.

After the four singles matches, the score stood at 2 sets each, Jane winning her singles 6-0 and Jack winning 6-4 in a very hard-

fought set. We then played the boys and girls doubles, the boys going down 0-6 while Jane and Mae fought back after being

down to win 7-5.

The sets now stood at 4-4 and it came down to whoever won the mixed doubles. Unfortunately, we were unable to win either

of the mixed doubles, resulting in a 5 set to 3 victory to The Rock.

Jane, Mae, Jack and Zac are to be commended for their determination and sportsmanship – all sets were played in the true

spirit of the game and every player was a great ambassador for their school.

We wish The Rock Central school luck against Parkes in the quarter finals.

Thank you to the parents who attended the day to support their children and cheer on the team.

Motor Neurone Day ~ Barellan Football Ground, Saturday June 4, 2016

A summary of our MND day.

The idea of an MND fundraising day has been in the pipeline for awhile and it

was decided that the game, against our neighbours Ardlethan, would be a good choice. Guernseys

were purchased this year by the Jamieson & Smith families featuring the logo for Neal Danihers

“Cure for MND” and the Griffith MND Support Group.

The idea being that Guernseys will be used by other teams in the future. Jerilderie will be the next.

Although it was a very wet day we still achieved a great outcome.

Total funds raised were $7257. This was from donations and funds raised on the day plus a gener-

ous anonymous farmer who donated 3 sheep, at the Griffith saleyards, which netted $536.80.

Special thanks to BUFNC for their support and for allowing us to have the ground raffle which was

a quilt, made and kindly donated, by Nola Malone and won by Viv Daniher.

Many thanks to Edna Conlan for supplying and making cornflower button holes which were sold on

the day.

Thanks to those that donated their time and items for “nibbles” especially Alison Prentice for gath-

ering up quite a few donations.

Will Overs was the lucky buyer of the “Daniher Dynasty” signed jumper which was kindly donated

by Chris & Dorothy.

The idea was to split funds between “Cure for MND” and the Griffith Support Group.

During half time on the day of the ‘Cure for MND Freeze’ at the MCG, the Minister for Health

Sussan Ley MP, announced the government would match $1 for $1 funds raised up until midnight,

so with a few phone calls the decision was made to donate $3000 by internet then and there. There-

fore the remaining funds going to Griffith Support Group ended up being $4257.

Many thanks to the communities of Barellan and Ardlethan for your support.
