Principals Report
Dear Parents and Carers,
Managed return to school – Phase 1
We are currently in Phase 1, meaning that students

This will continue during this week. All students are
expected to be engaged with their learning from
home. If you have any concerns, please don’t
hesitate in contacting the school.
We anticipate receiving an update from the
Department of Education later this week regarding
the managed return to school plan for next week. I
will share this information with the school
community as soon as it is available.
Currently at school we have heightened cleaning
operations, with all hard surfaces being cleaned
multiple times during the day, as well as all shared
equipment. Any keyboards, instruments, books and
so forth are clean with disinfectant before students
use them. We also have additional measures in
place in the library which will slow down the turn
over loaning items that have been borrowed whilst
they are cleaned. Students are regularly washing
their hands throughout the day and teachers are
following hygiene processes including physical
distancing and cleaning protocols. The safety of staff
and students is a high priority.
Kindergarten – Year 1 learning from the Canteen
The Kindergarten – Year 1 class continues to learn
from the canteen whilst the upgrade continues in

the canteen will be operational again on a normal

Please ensure all children come rotation, and
breakfast club will recommence. Please ensure all
children come to school with a packed lunch until
we notify you that the canteen is operational again.

given the recent disruption. Our secondary reports
will look very similar; however, the primary reports
will change a little with the removal of the A-E
grading.
Parent teacher interviews are still scheduled for the
1 July from 3:30-6:00PM. They will not be conducted
face to face this year. More information will be

Barellan Central School is seeking to employ an examination supervisor for this year’s Higher School Certificate. The examination period will take place from the 20th October to 11th November. The successful applicant must be over the age of 18 and have a valid paid Working with Children Check (WWCC). The position is paid on an hourly basis by NESA. Applicants cannot have a child or near relative sitting the HSC or work at BCS. Supervisors’ duties include: - Following directions of the presiding officer. - Listening to all instructions given to students. - Ensuring confidentiality. A vacancy exists for an Aboriginal Education Officer at BCS. This position will be advertised through teacher

works with all students, their families and teachers to support cultural awareness and the development of
culturally appropriate materials to support the learning of all students.
We are currently forming a panel and request any Aboriginal parents interested in being on the selection
panel to contact the school by Tuesday 26 May. One Aboriginal parent will join a representative from the

Once we have a panel formed, we will commence the recruitment process and hope to have an

A vacancy exists for a permanent Assistant Principal at Barellan Central School. The position will be
advertised in ‘I Work for NSW’ this Wednesday, and the advertisement closes on 3 June. Please share with
your teacher colleagues that this rare opportunity has arisen to join the leadership team at Barellan Central
School.
We hope to announce the outcome by the end of June.
International Celebrations Upcoming
this Fortnight: 15th – 28th of May
International Day of Families – May 15
“Families around the world are changing, many
becoming smaller, as the number of single-parent
households grows. Currently, 65% of all families are
made up of either couples living with children of any
age, or couples living with both children and extended
family members, such as grandparents. The
diminishing number of extended families and the
increasing number of single-parent families put into
sharp focus the issue of social protection.”
International Day of Light – May 16
“The International Day of Light celebrates the role light
plays in science, culture and art, education, and
sustainable development, and in fields as diverse as
medicine, communications, and energy. The
International Day of Light is celebrated on 16 May each
year, the anniversary of the first successful operation
of the laser in 1960 by physicist and engineer,
Theodore Maiman.”
International Day of Living Together in Peace – May 16
“The UN General-Assembly, in its resolution 72/130,
declared 16 May the International Day of Living
Together in Peace, as a means of regularly
mobilizing the efforts of the international
community to promote peace, tolerance, inclusion,
understanding and solidarity. The Day aims to
uphold the desire to live and act together, united in
differences and diversity, in order to build a
sustainable world of peace, solidarity and
harmony.”
World Telecommunication and Information Society
Day – May 17
“The purpose of World Telecommunication and
Information Society Day (WTISD) is to help raise
awareness of the possibilities that the use of the
Internet and other information and communication
technologies (ICT) can bring to societies and
economies, as well as of ways to bridge the digital
divide.”

World Bee Day – May 20
“To raise awareness of the importance of pollinators,
the threats they face and their contribution to
sustainable development, the UN designated 20 May
as World Bee Day. The goal is to strengthen measures
aimed at protecting bees and other pollinators, which
would significantly contribute to solving problems
related to the global food supply and eliminate hunger
in developing countries.”
International Day for Biological Diversity – May 22
“As the global community is called to re-examine our
relationship to the natural world, one thing is certain:
despite all our technological advances we are completely
dependent on healthy and vibrant ecosystems for our
water, food, medicines, clothes, fuel, shelter and energy,
just to name a few. The theme “Our solutions are in
nature” emphasizes hope, solidarity and the importance
of working together at all levels to build a future of life in
harmony with nature.”
International Tea Day – May 21
“Re-emphasizing the call from the Intergovernmental Group on Tea to direct greater efforts towards expanding demand, particularly in tea-producing countries, where per capita consumption is relatively low, and supporting efforts to address the declining per capita consumption in traditional importing countries, the General Assembly decided to designate 21 May as International Tea Day.”
International Day to End Obstetric Fistula – May 23
“Obstetric fistula is preventable; it can largely be
avoided by delaying the age of first pregnancy; the
cessation of harmful traditional practices; and timely
access to obstetric care. Unfortunately, the current
pandemic affects all these preventive measures in
developing countries where obstetric fistula still exists
- countries in which health care systems, even before
the coronavirus outbreak, failed to provide accessible,
quality maternal health care.”
