Principal’s Report

Swimming Carnival Time to dust off the goggles and the swim cap – the swimming carnival is looming.

Our twilight carnival will be held this Thursday after-noon kicking off at 3:45pm. The weather forecast is for a mostly sunny day and 33 degrees – sounds perfect!

In the event that the weather doesn’t hold out, the back-up date for the carnival is this Friday, 15th Febru-ary, during the day.

P&C Meeting Thank you to the ladies who attended the P&C meeting on Friday in the BCS Library. There was hearty discus-sion around a number of matters that impact the school – make sure you come along to the next one to hear what’s going on and have your say.

SRC The Student Representative Council (SRC) is being co-ordinated by Miss Murdoch this year and the ball is already rolling with nomination forms for students in Years 3 and up being handed out late last week.

If you think you have what it takes to lead your fellow students then fill in the application form and hand it in to Miss Murdoch by Thursday this week. Watch this space to hear who has been successful!

2013 DERvices The new lot of DERvices are scheduled to arrive in the school this Wednesday. Mrs Gatto will be organising their roll out to students once they have actually ar-rived.

Year 7 (Boys and Girls) Immunisation

Tuesday 19th February 2013.

Consent forms were distributed to students last week and need to be returned to the school by tomorrow, Tuesday 12th February.

RAP Induction Camp The annual Riverina Access Partnership induction camp for year 11 students is on this Tuesday and Wednesday. Students will meet their RAP teachers and classmates and spend time learning about their courses, each other and the protocols surrounding their new way of learn-ing in Stage 6.

Students will travel across with Mr Whytcross and my-self and must be at school at 7:30am sharp to be at Borambola on time.

Lunch Passes Students were reminded of the importance of signing out and in accurately to leave the school grounds for lunch at the end of last week. Students must only sign for themselves and no-one else, in a timely manner. Senior students who may have a lunchtime class may seek to leave earlier or later to have lunch.

Once students have signed out to go to lunch, they must find the nominated Executive teacher to sign back in once they return to school.

Twilight Swimming Carnival 2013 Our swimming carnival will be held on Thursday

February 14th, starting at 3:45pm at the Barellan

Swimming Pool.

All family and community members are welcome to join us.

There is a return slip in this week’s Gazette asking for people to help in the running of the carnival. Please fill it in and return to the school by tomorrow, Tuesday 12th February 2013 if you can help.

Students are allowed to come to school in house col-ours. Coloured hairspray is not permitted in the pool. Coloured zinc can be applied after 3:00pm prior to the start of the carnival.

The swimming carnival is compulsory for all students. Students will spend Thursday at school following the normal timetable. At 3pm students will have time to have afternoon tea, then be walked to swimming pool to commence the carnival.

Students are reminded to bring sun-screen, towel, hat and water. A BBQ and Canteen will be operating on the night.

Students are not permitted to leave the pool during or after the carnival unless they are with their parent or trusted adult. Parents are expected to make arrange-ments to have their children collected from the pool if they are unable to do so themselves.

Looking forward to a great afternoon of swimming and fun.

Absences From time to time all students will be absent from school for various reasons. It is a requirement by the Department of Education and Communities that parents must provide an adequate explanation for their child’s absence. Crunch and Sip Barellan Central School is a ‘Crunch and Sip’ School, there-fore we encourage all students to bring a piece of fruit or vegetable to eat a a set time in class. ‘Crunch and Sip’ as-sists with promoting healthy eating, a healthy lifestyle and also assists the brain in functioning in a way that will stimu-late and support learning.

Parents are also reminded to make healthy choices when packing their child’s lunches.

Great job with the reading everyone!!

Please remember we are recording 10 minutes of reading not a whole book. If the book is not finished in a night that is OK. Record the page and comment on the great strategies your child is using, e.g. checking the pictures, reading aloud or recording to check meaning.
