Moving to Year 7 in 2021
An Expression of Interest form has sent home today with all year 6 students for
placement in Year 7, 2021 in NSW Government schools. Please complete the form and
return to the school no later than Monday, 15 March, 2020. All information relating to the
expression of interest is on the form. If you have any questions or concerns please see
Katy Costa (Stage 3 AP).
School Bathrooms
Our school bathrooms are unfortunately regularly being mistreated by the students at
Forestville. I had a big talk to our 3-6 students at assembly last Friday but I would really
like to get parents involved also.
Students have been throwing whole rolls of paper into the toilets, have been stuffing
paper into the soap dispensers so that they are clogged and are leaving large amounts
or toilet tissue in the wash troughs or all over the floor. They are also not always flushing
or using the toilets appropriately. This makes the cleaners job very challenging and is
totally unacceptable behaviour.
Please talk to your children about what habits they should be practicing in using our
bathrooms and the teachers will also spend some time talking about the appropriate use
of our facilities. It is vital that these toilet facilities are respected and maintained in good
condition.
Principal’s Report
Bikes and Scooters
We encourage students to be healthy and ride or walk to school. Part of students using
bikes and scooters is ensuring their safe passage from home to school. Please spend
some time with your children explaining the hazards on their journey and also the need
to walk their bike or scooter in the playground in our very busy before and after school
periods. We would also like to remind students to lock their bikes in the bike racks
during the day, as leaving them scattered around the school can cause issues with
safety.
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
We would like all of our community to participate in identifying our 3 focus areas for our
positive behaviour for learning directions. Please use the link below and indicate which
3 areas you feel are important for our students and community.

What is mindfulness?
Mindfulness is paying attention to the present moment with openness, curiosity and
without judgement.
At Forestville we have been working with staff to introduce the Smiling Mind program.
This program will not only benefit staff, but also students, and it is going to be used in
classrooms across the school to promote good wellbeing practices and help students
to focus on their inner health and concentration.
Year 6 to the Basin
Our Year 6 teachers and students, along with Ms Costa will be heading to the Basin in
Pittwater for the annual Year 6 Basin Camp. We are the only school in Sydney who
utilises the camp facilities and works in partnership with Gibberagong Environmental
Education staff to give our students this experience. It takes an incredibly dedicated,
selfless team to ensure the students at Forestville have this experience, and I would like
to thank them all for volunteering to spend the 3 days with our students at the Basin.
Bring on the warm weather and starry nights!
Student Banking
School Banking Information Session
Forestville Public School is excited to offer the Commonwealth Bank School Banking
program to all students.
We will be holding a School Banking Information Session at our school:
Time: Between 8:30am – 9:00am

P & C Trivia Night
Dear Parents
Davidson, Forest and Killarney Heights High Schools have agreed to do the same entrance

Students should sit the test at their local high school.
Out of area students are able to apply for the enrichment class of their choice, however
they will also need to fulfil the out of area application process of the school.

Team (Skiing and Snowboarding)?
I am looking for expressions of interest to join our Team and compete in the

open to all children attending Forestville Public School in 2020.
If you are interested (no commitment yet!) please send an email to me at

Please spread the word.

INSTRUMENT HIRE
Instrument hire contracts were emailed to all relevant families last week, if you are
hiring an instrument from FPS please sign and return this form asap if you haven’t
already done so. The contract contains important information regarding T&Cs and
instrument repair procedure.
INSTRUMENT HANDLING
We have had many repairs needed in previous years due to instruments being packed
and unpacked incorrectly. It would be a great idea if you could ask your child’s tutor to
have a recap on how to handle and pack/unpack instruments. It would be great if you
could remind your child that they should be the only person who handles their own
instrument and that they should not handle or play with other students’ instruments to
avoid any accidents.
REHEARSALS
If you are not able to attend a rehearsal or performance please let your band
coordinator know asap so they can forward this information onto the conductors, this
way they know who will be absent and can plan the rehearsals and performances
accordingly.
