The FLEC Flyer | March 12, 2010 | Week 30Message from the Principal . . .
Dear Parents,
Welcome back! I trust that you enjoyed spending time withyour precious children during the break. I pray daily askingGod to pour out a special blessing upon each of you.
It is with joy that I remind you that next week, March 15 –19, 2010, is our Spring Week of Prayer. Pastor WillieRamos will be our speaker for the week. I encourage each
of you to attend this exceptional event with your children. I know that God’s Spirit will be atwork during this special week.
The Southern Union Board of Education will be meeting at the Conference Office in Decatur, Georgia on Wednesday, March 24, 2010. I will be attending thismeeting to receive the Southern Union “EDGE School of Excellence” award for FLEC. What a privilege to represent our school in accepting this award.
In closing, in my worship this morning, I came across this powerful verse as I was reading the book of Numbers. Just to set the stage: God and Moses are ina dialog regarding the Israelites, their grumbling and Moses’ frustration in leading His people. As the Lord reasons with Moses He asks, “Is the Lord’s arm tooshort?” (Numbers 11:23) Wow, that verse really touched me as I reflected on all that is ahead for me as a colleague, mother, wife, friend and student. What apowerful thought that God’s arms are not too short for me! While I don’t know what burden you are carrying or what is heavy on your heart today, I wanted toshare the same assurance that God is there for you. Always remember that God’s arms are never too short for you. He loves you and will join you in yourlife’s journey and challenges. So why not trust Him with every detail of your life?
Have a great weekend! I solicit your prayers for clarity and perseverance as I prayerfully attempt to complete this degree.
In His Service,Janet Ledesma

The greatest difference between our SDA Christian School and other public school is much more than what we do. It is who we know. Our school’s principles and system are based on a Man. That man, Jesus, has a lot to say about doing our best. He tells us thatwhatever our hands find to do, to do it with all our might (Ecclesiastes 9:10). Many of our young people are following this directive bycoming to school and doing their best. We want to acknowledge these students and to congratulate them for working hard during thesecond quarter.

MATH CLUB UPDATE
A while ago, some students were invited to be part of a math club based on their math grades. The invitation was extended to studentsfrom grades 3 – 8. While a few students from the different grades responded, only 4th grade had enough students and parent helpers toform a club. We moved on with the 4th grade club and the volunteers and students are having a fantastic time! We do thank the childrenfrom the other grades who responded and we regret that they couldn’t be part of the club this year. It is our hope that we would havemore interest and volunteers to include other grades next year. We will inform you of our math club plan during the next school year.
FOOD ALLERGIES
On behalf of our students with food allergies, we are requesting that if you are hosting, sponsoring a party or sending food to school thatyou label foods that contain nuts, peanut oil or peanut butter. As a school family, we have put controls in place to continue to make FLECa safe place for all our students.
HELP OUR TEACHERS!
Many classrooms are being disrupted between 2:45-3:00 p.m. and we need your help. It is our desire for teachers to utilize class timeeffectively and would like to request that disruptions be kept to a minimum. Also, if you would like to see a teacher we ask that you wait
until after dismissal, call or e-mail for an appointment. The FLEC Receptionist is happy to deliver messages, lunches, books and papersto your child. Thank you so much for your cooperation in this matter.
DISMISSAL
Remember school is out at 3:15 pm. Please note that it is disruptive to learning when parents come to theclassroom door at 2:50 or 3:00 to get their child. Please be patient and wait till the class is dismissed, youcan meet your child as the class leaves the classroom. Thank you for understanding and helping theteachers utilize those last minutes of the day.
Choose a Lane - Please remember to be extremely careful and patient when driving on campus. As youturn into the school drive please use the right lane if you are picking up from behind the school (5ththrough 8th grader riders) and the left lane if you are picking up children in front of the school (Pre-Kthrough 4th grade and multi-grade riders). Remember to be considerate; yield to your neighbor andpractice patience. Safety is our number one concern.
Rain Dismissal – We continue to tweak our rain dismissal procedure. Our goal is to safely completedismissal in 30 minutes or less from when the dismissal bell rings. Be assured that your child will not besent to Aftercare as long as there are still cars in line to pick-up.
PLEASE REFER TO PREVIOUS WEEKS FOR INFORMATION ON OUR H1N1 PROTOCOL AND FLU.
CELL PHONES
The FLEC Handbook states: “Cell phones must be powered off during school hours: 7:50 a.m. – 3:15 p.m. Monday –Thursday, and 7:50 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Fridays. They must not be visible during class, in the halls, or anywhere oncampus during school hours.”
There will now be a $25.00 fine for any cell phone visible during the school day. Students can use school phones withteacher’s permission and parents may leave messages with the front office if they need to reach their student.

DEVELOPMENT REPORT
Grant Proposals being considered.
This month, we are applying for two different grants to benefit the FLEC Building Campaign. The first is through PSI, PhilanthropicServices for Institutions, a department of the North American Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The second is through theArchie Tonge Education Fund, based in N. California.
PSI accepts grant applications from Adventist schools to help sponsor the development of their fundraising capabilities. This sponsorshipincludes training of the board and staff to better understand the fundraising process, as well as regular communication between theschool and PSI fundraising experts over the course of the grant. Funding can be up to $40,000.
The Tonge Fund was established by an Adventist physician who had a burden for encouraging scholarship and innovation in Adventistschool. This Foundation has giving significant grants to FLEC in the past and we’re hopeful that we will receive grant monies again forour new classroom building.
Please help us with two things: pray that our grant applications will be well written and convincing, and share with us any connection youmay have with any foundations or other granting organizations. We can do this project if we work together!
Remember, if you want to begin supporting FLEC in a more specific way than you have before, either time, or gifts, give me a call: DanTilstra, 269-208-1111 or email [email protected]. I’m always ready to talk.
