Left to right: Will G., Bob S., and Jim H. are adjusting the tops of the yellow painted rebars to where the track extension’s ballast will be filled to. The bars also mark the centerline of the track. The board is 100 inches long with extra wood blocks under the right end to equal the percent of grade. For a 1.5% grade, blocks 1.5 inches thick are put under the right end, then the rebar is pounded down until the level’s bubble is centered. It was found that a 1.5% grade was needed for the Western portion then lower grades for the East portion. Otherwise a lot of ballast would be needed for fill.
Topics to be discussed at the next meeting include: Train runs during the holiday event, holiday preparations, Dayton Train Show, track extension, loading station options, brake systems, building more new passenger cars, temporary train storage tunnel, etc.

Oct 2017 Below are pictures from the public train run on Sunday, Sept 17, 2017 during the Concours
d’Elegance car show. At left, in front is Jim M on club B&O loco #1932 and Larry W is driving club
loco #615. Below right is the station crew including Lataya H, Joe M, Ken T, and Rita B.
Above is Jim M on #1932 with Norm G as conductor passing the station. We ran the “Double Loop” route this day which is why Jim is on the inside track here. This route is set up by putting all switches to the green position. With two trains operating, the waiting line was manageable.
At right, are the blue ribbon winners in each of their car classes. In the extreme distant background is loco #615 on a passenger run.
