Greetings crew. August 10th, a bunch of us have decided to go to Wright Patterson Airforce Base Museum in Dayton, Ohio. If you are inter-ested in going with your friends to the museum let us know. We will be meeting at 7 A.M. in the front main entrance to Rolling Acres Mall. We will be leaving about 7:15. This issue is done with the theme of Far-scape. Information, pictures, and things are geared towards Farscape. In the future I will be doing this for other shows and movies. Let me know which ones you would like to see done. In the coming months, the Nemesis’ handbook will be done. It has been decided and will be in the handbook, that if you are the head of a de-partment on the shuttle/ship, that you send in an article for the newsletter at least every other month. This also helps others on the ship to know what you are doing with your department and not just holding the department head title and not playing along. (Special circumstances and sickness are exempt per CO or XO with notice). How much you want to be involved is up to you. If you do not want to do much or do any reporting then do not take a head of depart-ment position. If you want to do role playing and want to do something with your membership, we have plenty of departments without some-one in the head position or if it is filled there are positions under them that are opened. You can also post to any of the lists. [email protected] is our business list. [email protected] is our role -playing list. We have just mailed this month $3,268.68 in OCP coupons over to the Navel base in Sasebo, Japan. Congratulations to Tina Bellman. She passed her OTS (Officer Training School) test. You can do it by mail or by on-line now. Any-one passing OTS will automaticly be promoted to Ensign. If you want to start working you way up in rank of the enlisted members, take and

The Starfleet Academy. Some are hard, others are easy if you know Trek. OTS is all in the handbook you get for joining Starfleet. I have taked the Com-puter History course and a few of the Vulcan Academy course. All where fun to take. I encourge all to try them out. It is not all Trek and it does in-crease your knowledge. I will be soon working on the Nemesis’ web page. If you have or want something for your department on the web site, let me know and we will put it out on the site for you. Well, that is it for this time. Three months down towards being a ship. Then we can play phaser tag with other ships. First View Long month. I have not died as some may have thought, just been having some im-plants removed. Welcome Aboard to Claudia Gildenmerster. Glad to have you. Never have to many Klingons. Next congratulations to Tina Bellman on her recent promotion to the rank of Ensign, and for passing the Officer Training School course. This course is “FREE” (and free is good) if taken on line. You will need Adobe Acrobat to download the manual or you can use the Starfleet mem-ber’s handbook you received with your mem-bership packet. It takes at the very most an hour and a half to complete the course. But most of all it’s very easy. To take the course go to www.sfi.

org then take the link to the academy. I for one am looking forward to the trip to Wright Patterson Airforce base and flight mu-seum in August. We will have at least one guest from out of state that I know of coming to join us. John “Kiwi” Kane. I first met Kiwi at the R-1 fall conference, a nicer mate you would never meet. Kiwi came from New Zealand to become a citizen of the U.S. He is married and now lives in North Carolina. Being a Klingon it is only natural that he is a Starfleet Marine. His ship is the Reprisal, our mother ship. Next order of business is to answer a ques-tion that had been asked of me. “Why did we get a shuttle and not anything larger?” Well I tried but when Wade caught me in the process of reading the Captains yacht he put his foot down and said no. Can you blame him? I guess that’s why they call it a Captains yacht. There is an election coming up for the Com-mander of Starfleet every member gets a vote. Starfleet should be sending a card for each mem-ber. You simply fill it out and mail it back in. A rough draft of the ship handbook has

been done and forwarded to Ruth for review. After her review graphics and minor details will be added. Until next time take care and best wishes to all. Curtis Bellman XO shuttle Nemesis

“Captain Kirk’s chair from the starship Enterprise is being auctioned on eBay, and the bidding starts at $80,000. Which is ridiculous, because for $8,000 Wil-liam Shatner will show up at your house. Conan O’Brien, of NBC’s Late Night.

COMPARATIVE COMMANDER ANALYSIS

QUESTION #1: Your first officer of 20 years and trusted friend seemingly dies to save your vessel. You later dis-cover that he is, in fact, alive, and being regenerated on a distant planet in a forbidden zone. Going after him will wind up costing you your rank, your vessel, and possibly a family member as well. What do you do? CAPTAIN KIRK "I'd go after Spock, no question - who else in Starfleet is willing to put up with me? My ever-loyal bridge crew would be more than willing to help me steal my old ship and sabotage any pursuers, and we'd somehow manage to outwit any opposition we'd encounter, from a single Klingon ship right on up to...hell, right on up to the planet exploding! If Starfleet gets angry, I'd just find a way to save the universe again, and they'd be so grateful they'd pardon me." CAPTAIN PICARD "I'd try all the normal, diplomatic channels, of course. If that failed, I'd send Worf and Data in a shuttlecraft to effect a rescue, while I monitored from the safety of the ENTERPRISE. If worst came to worst, Num-ber One is replaceable - Commander Shelby's much better looking than Will, any day." COMMANDER SISKO "I'd sympathize with Major Kira's plight, and do all I could trough the proper diplomatic channels. Failing in that, what more can I do except radio in to Bajor for a replacement? I'm used to women being whisked out of my life, you know, and no way am I going to let Jake-O get killed just to save some Bajoran fanatic who was living on borrowed time anyway." CAPTAIN JANEWAY "The same as Captain Kirk, but I'd take my full crew, dammit! They knew the risks when they signed aboard!" Q "What a ridiculous question. If he died I'd simply bring him back to life and transport him home, simple as that." QUESTION #2: While disguised on a surveillance mission of a primitive culture, your advanced, alien nature is ex-posed, and the inhabitants start worshipping you as a god. Their entire societal development threatens to take a backward turn, plunging them into the dark ages. To prove them wrong you must be willing to be shot with an ar-row to show you can die. What do you do? CAPTAIN KIRK "Get shot? Are you out of your mind? If the damage has already been done, take advantage of it, man! Let me tell you, I'd ask for LOTS of virgin sacrifices, if you know what I mean, heh heh. If Starfleet found out, I'd have Spock muddle their computers or something, or else I'd just save the universe again so they'd forgive me." CAPTAIN PICARD "I'd sit down and explain to them in every possible manner that I am not what they think I am. If Eventually, though, I would trust in Beverly to get that damn arrow out of my chest - assuming Will wasn't available as a better target." COMMANDER SISKO "I'd try every possible diplomatic alternative. The prime directive, however, has loopholes for the welfare of Starfleet personnel - no damn way am I taking an arrow. There's no time like the present to wel-come that primitive culture into the 24th century." CAPTAIN JANEWAY "Oh, that would be terrible, terrible...we'd have violated the prime directive, and it wouldn't even be in search of coffee...I suppose I'd take it, then, and hope that snippy holographic doctor can sew me up again." Q What's wrong with them worshipping me as a god? QUESTION#3: An expedition into an unknown region of space accidentally yields a hostile, advanced, unrelenting alien empire who will wipe out your entire society if you don't collapse the wormhole that leads there. This, of course, will also deprive you of the scientific wonders that lay beyond, not to mention your job. What do you do? CAPTAIN KIRK "Disguise myself as one of them, sneak aboard their ship, bed the most highly placed female in their military, and, if all else failed, threaten them with a bluff so ridiculous that they can't believe it's a bluff, causing them to back off and leave us alone. For example, there's this element called Corbomite that we carry on our ships..." CAPTAIN PICARD "There must be some diplomatic way of settling this. Failing that, collapse the wormhole."

COMMANDER SISKO "There must be some diplomatic way of settling this. Failing that, collapse the worm-hole." CAPTAIN JANEWAY "Sometimes you just have to punch your way through - I'd take my ship right into the heart of their space and blow their command center to smithereens. Unless they brewed some really great coffee, in which case we'd take some of that, first." do they want? Starships? Girls? Weapons? Those cool little commu-nicators with sound boards that actually WORK?" Q Yawn. I'd blink and wipe out their entire race. It worked for Kevin Uxbridge, right? QUESTION#4 While pursing a group of criminals, your ship is accidentally tossed thousands of light years away, into an uncharted part of the galaxy. With no clear way home, how do you prevent mutiny and despair? CAPTAIN KIRK "A whole new quadrant of babes to woo? Hmmm....tempting as that may be, I'd have Spock and Scotty figure out some way to get us home, and maybe even save the universe a few times in the process." CAPTAIN PICARD "I'd get that brat Wesley to call up his friend, the Travelers, to get us home." COMMANDER SISKO "I'd look for a wormhole. Hey, if it worked once..." CAPTAIN JANEWAY "I'd make a highly successful science fiction show about my adventures that would launch an entire TV network." Q Big deal. I'd snap my fingers and send myself back home.

Legality’s and Technicality’s Hi everyone. For those of you who don’t know me my name is Tina Bellman. I am the J.A.G. Officer and the charity coor-dinator aboard the Nemesis. In addition to those duties I also have to take care of the XO Curt. Most people think the only child I have would be my daughter Nanette, but not so Curtis is my 43-year-old baby. As one of our charities we have chosen the Animal rescue group of Hearts and Paws. My husband and myself are fosters to cats. We take care of them until they go out to pet smart for adoption. As one of the ways we can help Hearts and Paws out is to save receipts from Tops super markets. Tops will give H&P credit for any purchases made there. So if any of you shop at Tops could I please ask you to save your receipts? Send them to me and I total them up for H&P and at the end of the year they give us credit for them. This really helps out, it helps H&P to pay Vet bills, and to resupply them with many other needed items. You can send the receipts to me at Tina Bellman 472 Taft Ave. Barberton, Oh 44203

If you want to send some you can send at the end of the month or every other month. Whatever works best for you. Thank you for your time and I hope we get some receipts. Also if anyone has any charities they believe in let me know and we will see if we can get a program working to benefit them. Ensign Tina Bellman JAG Officer Charity Coordinator Nemesis Editor note: The tapes that are turned in will count to-wards promotion points. (Handbooks are being worked

The design was created under the direction of Lieu-tenant Commander Gerodi LaForge during the Enterprise's shakedown cruise in 2372, and after some evaluation the ship has produced a dozen of these craft using its industrial replicator system. Like the Type 10, the Type 11 uses some elements of the technology of its parent vessel. Bio-neural gel packs have been included as standard, a step up from the Type 10 computer system which offers the gel packs as an up-grade only. Other technology incorporated is mostly centered around the warp core and nacelles, which use allows the Type 11 to have an equal speed to the type 10 but with a somewhat smaller power plant. The Type 11 design has been included in Starfleets shuttle design data-base, and is now available for any starship with an industrial

FARSCAPE GLOSSARY Arn Unit of time measurement, approximately equal to one Earth hour. Control Collar Metallic restraining ring placed around the outer hull of a Leviathan to prevent it from initiating Starburst while in Peacekeeper cap-tivity. ("Premiere") Cycle Unit of time measurement, roughly equal to one Earth year. Dominar Honorific title bestowed on the ruler of the Hynerian Empire. Its closest English-language equivalent would be "Emperor-King." See: Rygel Flax Net Enormous, invisible "magna drift-net mesh" that is deployed in space. A Flax Net absorbs light when it is deployed. One group know to be us-ing a Flax Net to trap and rob spacecraft are the Zenetan Pirates. ("The Flax") Freslin "Attractant" drug extracted from the senil gland (part of the anatomy of most sentient species), Freslin is a powerful aphrodisiac known to affect several different races. Ingesting it makes other in-dividuals seem to be more attractive and/or desirable. Certain specialized versions of the drug cause the user to appear more attractive to others by causing his/her/its body to emit special phero-mones while the drug is active in his/her/its system. This transformation is called an Aura Morph. ("Scratch 'n' Sniff") Heat Delirium Severe, adverse reaction suffered by Sebaceans in response to prolonged heat expo-sure. Untreated, Heat Delirium can quickly lead to the Living Death — a catatonic state most Sebaceans consider worse than death. ("Exodus from Genesis") Karack Metallites Burrowing insects that devour various metals; in their dormant state they closely resemble valuable Borinium ingots. When their legs extend from their bodies, they closely resemble

If one of the bonded entities dies, the Life Disc possessed by the other entity will go dark, signifying the other's passing. ("Taking the Stone") Metra Unit of distance measurement, roughly equivalent to one kilometer on Earth. Microt Unit of time measurement, approxi-mately equal to one second of Earth time. Used colloquially to indicate any very short period of time. Example: "I'll be there in a microt." Novatrin Gas that is very hazardous to the biological components of Leviathans. If it is damaged, death will occur within 50 to 60 arns. The only known treatment for a damaged Para-phoral Nerve is transplantation of a healthy or-gan from a compatible donor. ("Nerve") Starburst Means of faster-than-light travel used by Leviathans. Starburst catapults a Leviathan through a different dimension of space-time. The experience is nearly instantaneous; it also is nearly impossible to predict where any given Starburst maneuver will end. There is a risk of becoming trapped between dimensions if a Star-

DRDs Diagnostic Repair Drones. These are like mechanical microbes racing through Moya defend-ing it and repairing it. A constantly moving mainte-nance crew, it's significant that they are a finite resource. Unlike Moya, unlike the Transport Pods, DRDs are purely mechanical and can't be easily made in flight. They were probably installed at the same time as Pilot. Dentic Slap these alien lifeforms in your mouth and they'll clean your teeth. It's a disgusting practice the first time you do it but these boys and girls don't half do a good job and they even feed off the stuff you want rid of. They even leave a fresh minty taste in your mouth, though it's probable that this is actually Dentic urine. Never swallow Dentics. Amnexus Fluid - Substance excreted by Levia-thans. It is a sanitizing fluid. Aurora Chair - Used by Scorpius to extract infor-mation from Sebaceans, it also works on the Ban-nac slave race and humans. Memory extraction by the Aurora Chair is excruciating for the subject and resistance causes further pain. PK Techs are used to service the chair, so it's possible that Scorpius is not the creator, which means there could be other Aurora Chairs in use elsewhere by Peacekeepers. Budong - Largest living creature in the Uncharted Territories. A deceased one is being used as a mining colony. Control Collar - A type of harness used by the Peace Keepers on Leviathans to bring the great ships to heel. The collar can be programmed to work in conjunction with a Paddac Beacon. In the words of Pilot, "...when Peacekeepers capture a Leviathan, they immediately administer a sleep agent. Very potent. The weak...the old...do not sur-vive, which I suppose is part of its purpose. While the Leviathan sleeps, changes are made in propul-sion and guidance." Leviathans cannot breed suc-cessfully while collared. Iriscentent Fluid - Moya's fuel.

Delvian - This long-lived, blue-skinned, plant-based race worships a god/goddess named Khaalan. Depending on their skill level, they have the ability to move at great speed, alleviate pain or, if inclined, inflict pain. Delvians are af-fected by different forms of light. A 'highly spiritual race, thoughtful and peace loving'. Delvians are plants base hu-maniod lifeforms.

E'ma - Alien swear word best relating to the english word "ass." D'argo refers to Chiana as being "A real pain in the E'ma!". Frell - Alien swear word best relating to that wonderful 4-letter word that begins with "f." Hetch - Alien speed measurement. Exactly how fast "hetch" is, is unknown. It may be similar to "warp speed" from the "Star Trek" series, as it is used the same way. Pilot reports their speed to be "hetch 2" in "Premiere". Hezmana - Uncharted Territories version of 'Heck' Hynerian - A small aquatic race. Rygel is a member. Intons - Hynerian airway seizure caused by strong emo-tions. Irreversably Contaminated - PK term for overexposure to other races. Punishable by death. Leviathan - Race of sentient biomechanoid ships. They are capable of living on their own but they lack the ability to communicate with other beings. To communicate, each Le-viathan is equipped with a Pilot, a sentient being capable of interfacing with a Leviathan and speaking with other life-forms. Pilots are literally attached to thier ships at the hip. A Leviathan's gestational period seems to run approximately one cycle. They are born with a complete library of scien-tific data. Despite speculation, Leviathans are captured and enslaved by the Peacekeepers and are NOT their creations. Luxan - A highly war-like race. They are fierce, much-feared warriors known throughout the galaxy for their propensity to conquer anything or anybody in their path. Luxan physi-ology is such that they can handle short exposure to the vacuum of space. Ka D'Argo is a member. Marauder - A five-crewmember Peace Keeper transport ship. It's slow speed (Hetch 5) is balanced by the efficiency and the high level of training of the crew. It gets it's power from a liquid fuel source (siezium) which can leak and be

ignited. Page 9

FARSCAPE GLOSSARY

Peace Keepers (AKA Peacekeepers, PK) - Mili-tary group comprised of an alien race known as Sebacians. They are hired by various other races to keep peace, but can also be hired to kill, tor-ture, or other less than ethical deeds. They are highly Xenophobic. Prowler - A small craft used by Peacekeepers for hit and run attacks. Each prowler can hold a pilot and one passenger. Qualta Blade - D'Argo's prized Luxan sword, it's almost a metre long. It converts into a weapon similar to Aeryn's pulse rifle, and holds a charge for at least eight cycles (it remained charged throughout the entire time D'Argo was held cap-tive aboard Moya). Nebari - A race of grey-skinned, grey-blooded, black-eyed humanoids who practice and enforce mind control. A race of purist conform-ists, those who refuse to conform are forced to endure a "neural realignment" to, literally, "change their minds." They appear outwardly calm, but cannot be taken lightly. They have no standing armies, but one of their host vessels destroyed the Zelbinion when it invaded their sector. It's possible that the Nebari also use mind control in combat. Sebacean - Race normally associated with Peace Keepers. Aeryn Sun is a member. Sebaceans re-semble humans in all but two ways. 1) They lack the gland to regulate their temperatures, so they are highly susceptable to heat. They succumb to "Sebacean Heat Delirium" and eventual "Living Death". 2) They are far more durable than hu-mans. Aeryn took a beating from Captain Durka without so much as a bruise. There is evidence that colonies of Sebaceans lie somewhere deep in the Uncharted Territories. Sebaceans have a lifespan similar to humans. Talyn - Name given to a half breed Biomecha-noid/warship by Aeryn Sun. Son of Moya. Dren - Alien swear word best relating to that wonderful 4-letter word that begins with "s." "You pile of dren!"

Translator Microbes - John Crighton got injected with these when he first got on board Moya. They colonize at the base of the brain stem and translate all incoming audio signals to the host's language. They aren't always perfect though. Sometimes they don't pick up certain hard-to-translate words due to the fact that languages don't always match up in meanings of distances, time, even swear words. Unity - A usually pleasurable process by which two Delvi-ans (or one Delvian and one Human) form a bond by joining souls, where real knowledge can be shared, ie "the sacred surrender of 2 minds together, two spirits, two souls". Unity also allows Delvians to exchange (or steal) pieces of their souls. Tahleen used Unity to steal part of Zhaan's ability to remain sane in spite of the dark impulses. Zhaan obtained a piece of Tahleen's soul, which elevated her to a 10th level P'au, capable of shielding a victim from an attack by another P'au. Unity can also be used as a means of murder -- Zhaan killed P'au Bitaal in Unity. Yutz - Curse used by many races, "What the yutz are you doing?"

FARSCAPE On an experimental space mission testing the possibility of using a planet's own gravity to increase a ship's speed to escape the planet's gravitational pull astronaut John Crichton came too close to an eclipsing star and opened a wormhole. Falling through the wormhole he was accidentally flung across the universe into the midst of an intergalactic conflict. Lost, he finds haven aboard a living ship with alien creatures wielding deadly technology, each on the run and searching for home. Hunted by a merciless military race, Crichton is on an epic od-yssey more spectacular than anything he has ever imagined.

Farscape cast

Chiana - A Nebari thief.

D'Argo, Ka - A fierce Luxan warrior. His wife was a Sebacean and he was falsely accused of her murder by her vengeful Peacekeeper brother and mur-derer. Their young son, Jothee, is still alive.

Moya - A living ship that the Peace Keepers were using to transport prisoners. One of the prisoners, Rygel obtained the

keycodes to their cells and Moya managed to escape Peace Keeper control, in the process picking up human, John Crichton and a Peace Keeper Prowler, whose pilot was a woman named Aeryn Sun. Moya is of a race of ships known as Leviathans. Moya maintains herself through the use of small me-chanical droids called DRD's. When held captive by a Control Collar, Leviathans are unable to reproduce.

Rygel XVI, Dominar - Deposed monarch of Hyneria Pilot - A race of beings that are attached to Leviathan ships (Biomechanoids) to help them communicate to thier crew. Scorpius - A Sebacean/Scarian half breed. Sun, Aeryn - Sebacean Peace Keeper Officer who was irrever-sably contaminated. Zhaan, Zotoh - Delvian plant based life form. A member of Moya's crew. A Delvian Pa'u. John Crichton, astronaut
