As I began praying for direction for this site, and what God wanted to accomplish in my own life, prayer is something that has continued to come to the forefront of my heart and mind. I believe it is the most important tool we have been given as believers, but it also the least used tool for so many of us. We simply offer up our needs and wants and our will, and ask Him to bless them, without ever pausing to consider what our Heavenly Father might want to speak to our hearts and share with us. Prayer in our culture is a rarity, unless you count the 30 second mealtime and bedtime prayer.

The enemy has succeeded in keeping us too busy to offer heart-felt meaningful prayer. In our fast pace world - we’ve been deceived into believing that we just don’t have time to stop and pray. We may think about praying, but fail to make the time to do it. Satan doesn’t care if we think about prayer. If he can keep us busy thinking about it, that simply means we have less time to actually do it.

I am tired of living that lie. It’s time for me to make a choice and take a stand. I am making an intentional choice every Wednesday to pray for one hour. I would love for you to join us. Every Wednesday set aside one hour of your day and offer it to God in prayer. Pray through the various needs listed around the world, create your own list of things to pray for, or even consider praying for the needs we are praying through every Wednesday. More than anything, we want you to be intentional, spend an hour alone with the Lord and share your heart, your praise, your burdens, and for the needs of others.

We are transforming the lives of children with hydrocephalus, cleft lip and palate, spine deformities, clubfoot and other crippling orthopedic conditions. Their conditions are treatable, but without CURE, they have nowhere to turn for proper care.

These children and their families often feel great shame and face rejection from their relatives and communities. At CURE, they find acceptance and hope as our hospital staff members express God’s love for them.

Each week on Watch and Pray we will give you the name and face of a CUREkid who is in need. We will tell you a little about their story and how you can pray for them.

Purity Miriko

When Purity was almost 2 years old, she was being carried around by another young child when the child lost balance and dropped her into boiling water. I wish I could say that wasn’t a common occurrence, but it is, and with open fires and children caring for other children, accidents happen. After being burned, Purity, unlike most burn victims we encounter, was given a skin graft soon after her accident. But as she’s grown, the graft hasn’t grown with her, so now the skin limits her movement as if she’d never had a graft at all.

For this last born in a family of 6, I’m sure it’s a bit frustrating to have to have two of the same surgery, but her frustrations don’t seem to show. Peninah told me that shyness isn’t obviously the only quality about Purity. She loves studying English in her 5th grade class, and along with most Kenyans, wants to be a doctor.

Purity was in surgery on August 9th, 2011, and was discharged on the 12th. Please continue to pray for Purity as she continues to heal.

Open Doors works in the world’s most oppressive countries, strengthening Christians to stand strong in the face of persecution and equipping them to shine Christ’s light in these dark places.

Every week Watch and Pray will focus on the many different needs of the persecuted Church, as well as praying through the World Watch list.

The World Watch List is compiled from a specially-designed questionnaire of 50 questions covering various aspects of religious freedom. A point value is assigned depending on how each question is answered. The total number of points per country determines its position on the World Watch List of countries that are the worst persecutors of Christians.

North Korea is #1 on the WWL.

The situation in North Korea during this reporting period remains horrific. There is no change in the total number of points but that doesn’t mean it’s stabilized. On the contrary, during the last year general changes in the country adversely affected the entire population, including Christians.

Due to currency reforms, two out of every ten people seem to have lost their homes. Next to the economic crisis, North Korea has been hit by natural disasters.

Dozens of North Korean people died in floods and landslides which were caused by a typhoon.

The situation for the Christians was even more terrible. The whole country is under the spell of the Juche ideology and the worship of the “Great Leader.” As a result Christians do not have even the right to exist, according to the government.

Despite this persecution, Christianity is growing slowly. There are many risks for Christians, most of them deadly. In 2010 hundreds of Christians were arrested for various reasons. Some were killed and others sentenced to political camps.

For example, a Christian house church in Pyungsung province was discovered by authorities in May 2010 and three Christians were immediately sentenced to death because of the meeting. The other 20 Christians were sent to a labor camp.

Politically, things are changing as well. In September Kim Jong-Eun, the third son of Kim Jong Il, was officially appointed to general and elevated to second in command of the Central Military Commission. It confirms the intention of the present regime to make Kim Jong Eun the hereditary successor.

Will the situation change for Christians when KimJong Eun becomes the new leader?

Many people inside the country do not believe so but only God knows the total picture.

Joshua ProjectJoshua Project is a research initiative seeking to highlight the ethnic people groups of the world with the least followers of Christ. Accurate, regularly updated ethnic people group information is critical for understanding and completing the Great Commission.

Joshua Project gathers, integrates and shares people group information to encourage pioneer church-planting movements among every ethnic group and to facilitate effective coordination of mission agency efforts

Joshua Project seeks to answer the questions that result from the Great Commission’s call to make disciples among every nation or people group:

Who are the ethnic people groups of the world?

Which people groups still need an initial church-planting movement in their midst?

What ministry resources are available to help outreach among the least-reached?

Each week Watch and Pray will focus on one Unreached People Group, explain a little background and history on that group and how you can pray for them.

Once a year we will also go through the 40 Day Challenge which is to pray for the 40 largest unreached people groups.

Each post will reflect basic information about the people group, ministry obstacles, outreach ideas, and prayer points for the entire group.

Pray for the Lodha of India

The Lodha are an agricultural community. Besides cultivation, they rear cattle, work as agricultural laborers and make ropes. Some claim their descent from Lav, the son of Lord Rama. In some areas, the girls are tattooed at an early age on the chin and forehand. The Lodha are moderately educated.

Nominal Christianity may have caused these people to have a misunderstanding as to what it means to follow Christ.

Pray for workers to take the Gospel message to these people in both oral and written form.

Pray for the few followers of Christ among the Lodha community, that they will be united in love around truth, growing in numbers and in maturity. Pray they will put on the full armor of God, including the shield of faith.

Pray for MaliDry southern grasslands merged into the Sahara Desert. The Niger River runs through the southern part of the country.

One of the world’s poorest nations. Farming and fishing make u 80 % of the population. Drought, locust plagues, and desertification frequently devastate the land.

Population is 87.38 % Muslim.

2.64 % of the population is Christian.

Most of them are not actively engaged in evangelism and outreach, despite many in Mali being spiritually open.

Pray for boldness, passion and a burden for the unsaved to awaken in the churches and for a new wave of evangelism to occur.

In Bamako, there are over 3,000 Quranic Schools teaching Islam. Pray for Muslims in Mali to have the opportunity to hear, read about and experience Jesus and the assurance of salvation that He alone offers.

Missions have multiplied and few areas of the country are untargeted, but breakthrough has not yet been seen. Mali is still a pioneer missions country, with 2/3 of the population unevangelized.

Pray for Bible translation. Work is currently in progress for 18 languages. Only eight Malian languages have a New Testament translation, and only 1 has the entire Bible. Pray for a breakthrough in getting more languages translated.

Pray for Alpha Project and World Vision to be successful in their programs to raise the literacy rate, so that Bible translation will be useful.

The average person in Mali makes about $1.50 US / a day.

We are writing for Bible-believing Christians who want to obey the last great command of the Lord Jesus by evangelizing the world and completing the Great Commission. Our longing is for this book to be seen as a tool for prayer. The nations are there for the asking. God is calling you and me into the ministry of intercession for them.

Food For The Poor ministers to spiritually renew impoverished people throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Established in 1982 as a 501(c)(3) corporation, our goals are to improve the health, economic, social and spiritual conditions of the men, women and children we serve.

Food For The Poor raises funds and provides direct relief assistance to the poor, usually by purchasing specifically requested materials and distributing them through the churches and charity organizations already operating in areas of need.

Our ministry reflects God’s unconditional love, which surrenders all, inspires trust and faith, and embraces all people regardless of race, status or creed. We believe that Christ is alive, and that we can best serve Him by being of assistance to those in greatest need (Matthew 25:31-40). Finally, we stress the need for regular prayer to guide and maintain the purity of our mission, to link the church of the First World with the church of the Third World in a manner that helps both the materially poor and the poor in spirit.

In Haiti, 5-year-old Luvenci and a pig are rummaging through the same garbage pile. Both live amongst the filth of “Shada” — a trash-laden seaside slum in northern Haiti and one of the poorest communities in the world.

The little boy and the animal both search for any signs of nutrition - a rarity

in this swamp-like cesspool.

“There are many days they have no food at all,” said Shedeline, Luvenci’s mother. “I just try to get my children to sleep so they don’t feel the pain. I am 100% leaning on God to help me get out of here.”

Shedeline struggles to raise Luvenci and his little sister on her own. The loving mother is doing the best she can, but fears for the lives of her children.
