e Dear Neighbours,

I have to start with sharing the most wonderful news with you! My little cat Milo who went missing in July last year is now safely back home with me. I was devastated when he disappeared and because there was no closure I always had hope he would come back and now he has. Imagine my surprise to receive a phone call from the vets one Sunday morning saying they had Milo - he had been hit by a car and they had been treating him. Thank goodness for his microchip. My heart did somersaults at the news and now, several weeks later, he is fully recovered and as mischievous as ever. I want to thank the staff at Lingfield Lodge for doing all the right things to fix him and a special thank you to Sally and Freya Edwards who found him in the road and, quite frankly, thought they were taking him to be put down as his injuries were so awful. Where has he been? I really don’t know but I am just over the moon with happiness that he’s back.

So, here we are at the penultimate issue for 2014 and it has been a busy year as always in Edenbridge. I was back at the WI Hall to see another amazing production by the Forge Singers - a collection of songs from past productions to modern songs performed for fun, all put together to celebrate 60 years of the group. In fact, if you or anyone you know has been part of

the group over the last 60 years, they would love for you to join them at a special evening. There’s more information on page 26 about this event.

Another milestone celebration taking place soon is a 10 year anniversary for Eden Beauty Therapy on Church Street (Edenbridge). To mark the occasion they have sponsored this issue’s prize crossword and you’ll have a chance to win a set of GEL Nails. You can also read more about the salon on page 36 as they are one of my business features.

There’s plenty going on with the Eden Valley Chamber of Commerce. Not only do they have a new Chairman in the form of Keith Steptoe (Eden Plumbing) who took over from Peter Kingham but there are a number of BIG events being planned for the town by the organisation. September will see the Edenbridge Motor Show (14th at Gabriels Farm - more info on page 21) and the Eden Valley Business Show (18th at Hever Castle Golf Club - more info at www.edenvalleyb2b.co.uk), and December 6th is the Christmas Spectacular in the High Street. Of course you’ll find details of these and more on the calendar pages in this magazine.

More thanks go out to the Edenbridge Town Band for their annual outdoor concert on Stangrove Park. What better way to spend a summer’s evening than with family and friends, a picnic rug and refreshments and watch the sun go down while listening to the vast repertoire of tunes our local band can play.

e I hope you enjoy this issue and, as usual, don’t forget to mention The Edenbridge Directory if you are responding to anything you’ve seen featured in this magazine as it helps secure it’s future. The next deadline for content and advertising requests is Friday 3rd October for the November/December 2014 issue.

Right, now I can get back to my looming - I don’t know how many of you have been taken in by the craze but I can’t stop! I love being able to make a bracelet in a few minutes to go with my choice of outfit for the day. There are plenty of places to buy your loom bands and boards from all over Edenbridge. It’s a fun activity but highly addictive so be warned!

Until next time...

re appearances - Transforming the way we look Pt 1I’m often surprised at the new things I learn when I speak to local business people on a more in depth basis to write these features and meeting up with Aesthetic Practitioner Gillian Huntley, owner of appearances was no exception. It was amazing to hear just what is possible in this field and how she can transform people’s lives through her treatments.

Gillian started appearances in 1986 and while she mainly treats clients at her home clinic based in Chiselhurst, she does have strong connections in Edenbridge through Options Beauty Salon. She was also a proud finalist of the Kent Women in Business Awards 2014. She keeps herself up-to-date with all the latest technology and training required to conduct treatments and is often recommended by GPs (including Harley Street ones) as the ‘Go To’ person in her line of work.

There are many different types of treatments Gillian is able to carry out - skins peels, scar relaxation, specialist waxing, thread vein/pigmentation/skin tag removals - and I’m going to be covering these over the next few issues, starting with Semi-Permanent make-up and medical tattooing and how these treatments can transform people’s lives.

So what is the difference in the equipment that Gillian uses for semi-permanent tattoos compared to what you would find at your local tattoo parlour? Semi-permanent tattooing equipment does not penetrate the skin as deeply as a normal tattoo needle would, therefore it can be used on the very delicate areas of our bodies such as the eyelids and lips. Of course unlike permanent tattoos, the colour will start to fade over a year or three and

top-ups are required to maintain perfect effect and colour.

Semi-Permanent EyelinerImagine not having to worry about your eyeliner smudging anymore or going for a swim and coming out of the pool with your eyes looking as great as when you got in? This treatment is perfect for those with allergies, contact lenses, eye problems or simply to save you time. With her semi-permanent

tattooing machine Gillian can give you either top or top and bottom eyeliner in your choice of colour, in a thickness you desire that will last for 1-3 years.

I bet there are a number of you reading this thinking it must be painful having your eyelids tattooed. So how painful is it? Well, the only way for me to find out was to undergo treatment myself and let you know personally.

Gillian first applies a special numbing cream to the eyelids [pic 1] which takes a short while to take effect, so while this was working its magic Gillian was preparing the colour for my eyeliner. I had originally thought of having black for maximum effect but Gillian pointed out that I might feel I’m ready for a night out every morning when I look in the mirror. We decided upon grey with a hint of blue and black mixed in for a slightly more subtle look.

I would be lying if I said that you couldn’t feel a thing but it was not actually painful as such, more of an uncomfortable feeling [pic 2]. Gillian also makes it clear that if you need her to stop at any time to take a break then all you need to do is say. Of course you have to remain extremely still during the process otherwise the liner might end up in places other than your eyelids!

Gillian Huntley in her clinic

The Edenbridge Directory September/October 2014

About half an hour later and it was all finished [Pic 3]. When having it done for the first time you will generally need 2-3 visits but after that an annual top up will be all that is needed to keep the colour looking great all the time. I think semi-permanent eyeliner is one of the best things ever and since I’ve had my eyes done I’ve been absolutely delighted with them. Feel free to stop me in the street if you want to check them out for yourself!

Semi-Permanent Eyebrows If your eyebrows are starting to thin, perhaps due to age or over-plucking in years gone by, Gillian is able to give you your eyebrows back! She does this by tattooing on each individual

hair stroke with her tattoo machine, leaving you with very natural looking eyebrows. She calls these her ‘WoW Brows’ and you can see in the picture just how natural the finish looks. Again, the brow is numbed first before Gillian sets to work drawing on the individual brow

hairs.

I’ve come across a number of ladies in and around the local area who when I mention Gillian’s name they are so proud to show off their ‘WoW Brows’ as it has given them their confidence back in their appearance.

Medical TattooingThis is an advanced level of semi-permanent make-up, treating other areas of the body. The work is mainly creating areolas for breast cancer patients but also can help scars (burn’s victims), scalps (alopecia and hair loss), and even ‘fixing’ webbed toes. This treatment basically replaces what is not there or transforms what is there.

To find out more about these or the other treatments Gillian offers, or to book an appointment, contact her on 07711 067 789 or email [email protected]. You can also find lots more information on her website at www.appearances4u.co.uk or find her on facebook, twitter or YouTube.

Forge Singers’ Diamond Anniversary PartyThe Forge Singers celebrate their 60th anniversary this year, and to mark this momentous occasion they are holding a buffet supper party in The Princes Suite at Hever Castle Golf Club, on Saturday 22nd November 2014 from 6pm. If you are or have been a member of the Forge Singers during the last 60 years the group would love for you to join them on this special occasion. The cost will be £15 for adults and £10 for under 18 years.

They hope to sing a few carols at 6.30pm (the Society was founded initially for carol singing), after which there will be the opportunity to meet and reminisce with current and past members. The bar in the Suite will be open to purchase liquid refreshments.

Following the buffet supper and a few speeches, everyone will be able to either show their prowess on the dance floor with music provided by a disco, or remain in the lounge area to talk together.

If you would like to attend this very special evening, please contact Tracie Batchelor on 01732 864 166 | 07968 021639 or email: [email protected] by 31st October.

things. We went to the Forge Singers 60th Anniversary production at the WI Hall and I was blown away by the amazing talent and fantastic costumes and choreography. Well done to all those involved. Anyway...

As regular readers of my column will know, I provide an alternative

and highly cost-effective way for people to deal with their legal issues. Instead of using a solicitor, you can use my service and go direct to the legal expert – a Barrister, for specialist advice. Whether you wish to know how best to deal with a particular legal issue, require legal documentation to be expertly drafted for you, or you need to be represented in court, it will cost less overall to use the direct services of a Barrister instead of a solicitor. But don’t just take my word for it, have a look at the testimonials page on my website www.thebarristerbroker.com for honest feedback kindly provided by my clients.

I provide Barristers to help people involved in different legal areas but one of my main areas of work is Family Law, in particular the financial settlement arrangements of couples going through a divorce or that of non-married couples following a relationship breakdown (i.e. the division of the family assets; house, car, money, etc - in other words who gets what) and contact and residence of children.

Relationship breakdowns can be one of the most traumatic times in a person’s life. Quite apart from the obvious emotional aspect, it involves dealing with financial consequences and can of course be further complicated when there are children involved. I have some personal

experience of this process having gone through a divorce nine years ago when my children were quite young which gives me an advantage when speaking to prospective clients who are going through the mill because I can relate to their pain.

I have clients who’s ex-partners get up to all sorts of dirty tricks in an attempt to get more than their fair share of the family assets or do their utmost to ruin their ex-partners relationship with their children. The lack of honesty, decency and human compassion displayed by some people can be truly shocking.

It is therefore of enormous importance (and this should not be underestimated) that when you turn to the law to help you in your time of need, the legal advisor that you use is the most appropriate person to fight your corner. This is where I help you. I will get the most appropriate Barrister for your case; a legal expert who will work with you and for you to help you get the best outcome you can as quickly and cost-effectively as you can.

What do I mean when I say the “most appropriate person”?

Simply this. I work only with senior Barristers, so someone who has been a Barrister for at least 15 years and very often more than 20 years. They have experience, knowledge and track record. They are used to dealing with bitterly contested divorces and child contact cases, where the other side can get up to all sorts of devious and dirty tricks. If you are advised or represented in court by an inexperienced or weak legal advisor you could end up losing what you are fighting for. Not a nice thought. Therefore, being advised and represented at the earliest possible stage by someone who has all the appropriate experience and proven track record is the only way forward in your best interests. Get the best and pay less by coming to me.

Remember, it costs nothing to speak to me but I could end up saving you thousands!

re More than Just Mortgages in this new High Street office!

If you’ve been into the High Street recently you may have noticed a new office opening up in the centre of town. Just Mortgages is an already existing thriving business which has re-located to Edenbridge. On offer is so much more than mortgages. The lady behind the business is well known and long-term Edenbridge

resident, Phyllis Lawrenz, who has been living in the town for the past 35 years.

Many local residents will remember Phyllis from years ago as she spent many years working as a mortgage adviser on the High Street in a couple of the well known banks.

Phyllis decided to take the bold step to start her own business in the profession in which she has become so successful. Phyllis provides expert advice on not just mortgages but everything associated with buying a house, to providing a bespoke service. It was always very much on Phyllis’ mind to come back to Edenbridge, the town where she grew up, and having the right premises was the key to doing that and so Just Mortgages evolved.

Phyllis is supported in her new venture by

her experienced team who provide fantastic support for both her and her clients.

Just Mortgages isn’t about providing ‘just mortgages’, it also offers a wide range of financial services and protection products. Phyllis says “Buying a house is the biggest financial commitment you will ever make and at Just Mortgages we understand that. We want to make sure that if the worst happens to you and your dependents you will always be able to keep your home”.

With the recent introduction of the Mortgage Market Review, there are many more factors that lenders now take into consideration. “We have access to many lenders, some you will have heard of and some not but our role has become increasingly more important. It can seem like a challenge to know what is actually required for a mortgage but with our expertise, dedication and flexible appointment times we believe that we can take away the stress of purchasing your own home or re-arranging your current mortgage. We can visit all of the High Street Lenders in under an hour!” says Phyllis.

Why not call into the office to make an appointment, whether it is for a property you are thinking of buying or re-visiting your existing mortgage & protection arrangements. Call Phyllis on 01732 865 555 or visit the office at 61 High Street, Edenbridge TN8 5AL.

re Eden Beauty Therapy celebrates 10 years in town! Our High Street has seen many changes over the last 10 years but one of the things that has remained constant throughout is the presence of ‘Eden Beauty Therapy’ on Church Street. In order to celebrate this great achievement Emma has some fun things and very special offers planned for the actual birthday itself on Thursday 2nd

October.

The beauty industry moves at a fast pace with regards to new treatments and products and Emma, along with her other therapist Sarah, will always ensure they have the latest training in new products coming from their suppliers.

Recently introduced to their range of nail treatments are Jessica and Orly Gels. Orly Gel FX Nails give you a lasting finish because the gels are more durable than an ordinary nail polish. Gel FX is a vitamin infused Gel Polish which is set under an LED light for just 30 seconds per layer meaning you can leave the salon with your nails ready to go.

The Jessica GELeration range has been created with the health of the natural nail in mind. This evolution in technology protects nails, offering weak, bitten or problem nails the opportunity to grow and each of these treatments is tailored to suit the client’s nail type.

Guinot facials have been very popular since the salon opened particularly the Hydradermie facial. These treatments can only be carried out by professionally qualified therapists and are tailor-made to suit the skin type of each client. Both the Hydradermie and Lifting facials use a special machine, which helps to reach deeper levels of the skin. Clients feel the difference straight away and the effects are long lasting. Emma says that regular facials keep you skin

looking fresh and healthy whilst combating the effects of ageing.

As well as Skin Care and Gel Nails, Eden Beauty Therapy also specialise in:

Hair Removal Eyes & Brows Advanced Cosmetic Procedures Manicures & Pedicures Callus Peels Massage Ear Piercing (restrictions apply)

The salon team consists of therapists Emma and Sarah with support from receptionists Clair, Una and Charlotte.

***JOIN IN THE CELEBRATIONS***Emma and the team would love you to come and celebrate their 10 year anniversary with them on Thursday 2nd October where you will be able to take advantage of some very special offers! There will be a 10% reduction on all treatments and products that day.

Eden Beauty Therapy also run their own loyalty card scheme where customers receive a stamp each time they visit and spend £20 or more. Once 10 stamps have been collected a gift voucher is awarded to spend in the salon. Brand new clients also receive a little goody bag on their first visit.

The salon is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 9am and open until late on Thursdays. Why not pop into the salon at 5 Church Street, Edenbridge, TN8 5BD or call 01732 862 224. The team look forward to meeting and treating you!

You can also keep up-to-date on special offers by liking the facebook page or following them on twitter @edenbeauty5 or for more information visit www.edenbeautytherapy.net.

*NEWS FLASH**NEWS FLASH**NEWS FLASH*Eden Beauty Therapy are currently recruiting for another Beauty Therapist. Please get in touch with the salon if this could be you!
