A sphere is a big circular shape, just like a basketball.

The Earth and the moon are shaped like spheres.

Lets test what you know. Which object is a sphere?

Disco Ball

Pizza

Tire

ABCCORRECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!The Sun and Earth are completely round, not just round from one angle like a pizza or a tire. They are round ALL ova! - like a disco ball.

The Suns Role to the moonDid you know that the Sun is what lights the moon?

Without it, we would never see the moon. It would always be a new moon; we would not ever see it because there would be no sun on it.

How the Sun lights the Moon

The Moon shows us many different "faces, or phases. They are the result of the way the Sun lights the Moon's surface as the Moon orbits Earth. The Moon can only be seen as a result of the Sun's light reflecting off it. It does not produce any light of its own.

Confused? Watch this video to better understand the phases of the moon
