    Mercantilism and the

    Navigation Acts Mercantilism An economic theory in

    16th century Europe which stated that

    nations become strong when theyacquire the most gold/silver and have a

    favorable trade balance.

    The 13 British colonies in N.A. were

    supposed to benefit the homeland by

    providing them with raw materials liketimber, fur, cotton, tobacco. In return

    Britain would send manufactured goods.
