Local Coffee Shop Sheds Light on Undiscovered Talent Mount  Pleasant  community  members  and  Central  Michigan  University  students

compete  for  artist  of  the  month  at  The  Dreamer  Coffee  Shop

MOUNT PLEASANT, MI – The  Dreamer,  a  coffee  shop  in  Mount  Pleasant,  MI  has  selected  an  artist  of  the  month. Each month The Dreamer selects a local artist and displays their art around the coffee shop. “Giving students the spot light they may not have had before is very important to us,” Event Coordinator and Art Director Jeremiah Bell said. “We want to support our local art community.” This month The Dreamer Coffee Shop named CMU junior, Tate Verduin, Artist of the Month. Her art can be seen all around the coffee shop. Verduin’s pieces include drawings and paintings. “I love being able to display my art at Dreamer. It’s a great, relaxing environment for students to enjoy hot drinks, art and music,” Tate said. “It also presents another outlet of promotion for my work and provides another opportunity for my work to be seen.” Bell said Tate really stuck out among other artist because her art is organic and colorful. He also admires her creative ability and originality. Verduin began her interest in art at the age of 5. She started with sewing and later picked up painting. “As a child, I spent many days at my grandparent’s house. My Mawmaw began to teach me to use a sewing machine and how to cut patterns from fabric,” the Mississippi native said. “For my fifth Christmas, I made my own Christmas dress and wore it to my grandparent’s house for dinner.” Tate also created bags from The Dreamer’s recycled coffee bags. Her handmade bags are up for sale at the coffee shop. Her art will be on display until mid-March when the next artist of the month is chosen. Anyone interested in entering the competition can contact Jeremiah Bell at [email protected] or (989) 317-8358. About The Dreamer Coffee Shop We are a group of people chasing our dreams. The Dreamer Coffee Shop was established in Mount Pleasant, Michigan in 2014. We serve coffee, bubble tea, and art works. Ready, set...create.

Students and members of the Mount Pleasant community flowed into DreamerCoffeehouse March 21 from to be a part of the speed art competition. The competitionallowed competitors to show off their artistic abilities and be entered to win multipleprizes.

The winner of the contest and senior at Central Michigan University, Jamie Morse, received five free drinks from the coffee shop, a feature on the Facebook page, a freeticket to the upcoming Tree Love event and her own art show at the coffeehouse. Thewinner also will be featured as Dreamer's 'Artist of the Month.'

There were five contestants competing, making it a very close competition. The artistswere allowed to choose whatever medium they wanted, and only had two hours tocreate. Morse decided to create a painting on a log based off of a sketch she had done.

"I usually paint on wood or logs over canvas because of the way the colors show," saidMorse. "I don't like using very bright colors but I like what they do. The wood soaks upthe color way more than a regular canvas, giving it more of a matte finish instead of aglossy one."
