HOOP TIME STATE FINALS Last week seven girls from grade 3 &4 competed in The State Hoop-time Basketball Finals. This was a great achievement to qualify for this competition. The girls were Amber Casper, Bree Whitehead, Tessa Findlay, Jordyn Rennie, Sky Casper, Tayla Ferguson and Livi Heinen. The girls all played well and made it through to the semi-finals. Many thanks to the parents and relatives who attended to support this team. Many thanks also to Mrs McLellan who coached. The girls should be proud of this achievement.

It was a challenging time last week with kitchen session changes to accommodate the 3 & 4 swimming program. The students worked very well across all of the classes to complete a reduced and quicker menu. They managed their time well and completed their recipes with time to spare from the 1 hour session. Well done to all the students for being well organised and cooperative and showing excellent team work within their groups. Grade 6 students have their final kitchen session’s this week before moving on next year. As it will be their last time in the kitchen, the menu will be more fun and relaxed to celebrate their final sessions in the SAKG kitchen. Also, with Christmas not far away, they will create one recipe with a Christmas flavour, which I’m sure they will all enjoy. The grade 5/6 classes to link with their science curriculum this term have been having fun making slime in the kitchen with cornflour, water and food colouring. They had to observe and record how the slime reacted when it was handled in different ways. It was definitely a messy activity but the students had fun with it and cleaned up the area well afterwards (as the photo shows, they enjoyed making a mess). The final week of kitchen sessions for grades 3 & 4 will be a slightly different menu to that of the grade 5 & 6 classes, which will be finalised soon.

I would like to thank once again all the parents, grandparents and other volunteers who have given up their time to assist in the kitchen this year and I hope you all have a safe and enjoyable Christmas and New Year. Thanks Gregg

Communicating With Our Parent Community

Our school is now using an App to send instant messages, newsletters and notices. The Tiqbiz app will help our school keep parents fully informed and up-to-date with newsletters, notices, news and events. It’s easy to use and also has the benefit of helping reduce our paper consumption by printing less.

The first step is to download tiqbiz to your phone, tablet, computer … or all of them.

Search for : tiqbiz

Remember to click “allow” notifications when asked. This will allow us to send you important alert notices. For technical information please see the school for a flyer.

Camp Australia

Camp Australia is now taking enrolments for Holiday Club which begins on the 5th January 2015. Curriculum Day is Friday 19th December 2014 and we are now taking expressions of interest from those parents requiring child care for that day. You need to book your child in for that day, as the rolls have now been cleared. This booking is an expression of interest only at this stage. To run the program, we need a minimum of 18 children. Remember that children must have hats on to play outside during terms 1 and 4. Since the children leave their hats in the classrooms overnight, this means they need an extra hat in their bags for OSHC. No hat: No outside play. Dorset OSHC staff. If you are wishing to enrol your child in before or after school care the contact numbers are:

Toy and Book Appeal Christmas is a special time for families and giving, but sadly many children living in financial disadvantage will

not receive a gift this Christmas. The Smith Family and

Dorset Primary School's Junior School Councillors are organising a Toy & Book Appeal, which is your

opportunity to help bring a smile to a disadvantaged child's face this Christmas. There is a Christmas tree in

the office where you can drop off your donation of

either a new book or toy and attach the tag, which is hanging on the tree. You can also donate online.

Please help support this great cause! Final day of donations is Wednesday 10th

December.

If there are any parents who are able to deliver the gifts to the Smith Family collection point,

that would be greatly appreciated. This is located at the Melbourne Showgrounds and

will need to be delivered between 10am-

3pm on the 11th or 12th of December.

Thank you,

J.S.C & Mrs Millsom

Dorset Christmas Concert

What: Dorset Primary Christmas Concert Where: On the school oval When: Thursday 11th December Time: 6pm BYO Picnic Dinner 7pm Concert Start A reminder to all families and friends that the annual Dorset Christmas Carols concert will be held next Thursday. We will have all classes performing as well as our fabulous Dorset School Choir. As per usual, there will be a BYO picnic beginning at 6pm then moving onto the oval for a 7pm start. Students have been rehearsing songs with their classmates and should be aware of dress requirements for the night. If you are unsure please talk to their class teachers for more details. This year the oval will have 3 areas for viewing; - an area where ALL students will sit with their classmates in front of the stage; - a second zone for those wishing to sit on the ground or rug; - and a third area for people wishing to BYO chairs, prams etc. These areas will be designated and signed to assist you. This will alleviate problems of people not being able to see the stage and should supply a great view for all attending. There will be programs available for sale and drinks available for sale from the canteen. Please come along to support our students and join us all in the festivities. Mr. Gibbs (Music Teacher)
