Getting Closer to Customers
IBM’s Global CEO Study
found that 88% of CEOs
said "getting closer to
customers" was the top
priority for their business
over the next five years.
Brands that have a
genuine, real-time dialogue
with consumers will be
well-positioned in a world
of evolving and
increasingly niche markets.http://www-935.ibm.com/services/uk/cio/pdf/social_media_Part_Executive_Report.pdf

Rich’s tips to getting started
1. Don’t outsource it… people can spot authenticity a mile
away. They want to speak to you (not an agency).
2. Monitor what’s going on. Use services like Google
Alerts, Mention.com, Talkwalker Alerts, Topsy,
Hootsuite. Before you dive in.
3. Follow (not in real life) a few Social CEOs and see what
they do > @romanovsun being a great example.
4. Pick the right social media platform for your goals.
5. Develop a thick skin and don’t feed the internet trolls.

The Digital CEO – what are your digital teams not
telling you?
What part does digital play in our strategic plan, who reports to the board about digital and social media strategy and outcomes, and what is their level of experience?
Do we have guidelines to issue to staff and volunteers using social media and how do we encourage usage while mitigating risk?
How can social networks and technology help to aid internal communications and break down silos across a business?
What resources have we allocated to digital projects and how do we measure our return on investment?
How can we monitor online discussions that our business should be involved in?
Can any of our services be delivered through social media or online channels to reach new customers?
