Purpose: Airway Management is a critical skill in Anesthesia. Thiscourse is designed to provide participants with state-of-the-art informationand hands-on experience to ensure effective and appropriate manage-ment of difficult and failed airways.

Target audience: The Difficult Airway Course: Anesthesia is intendedfor healthcare providers including, Anesthesiologists, Nurse Anesthetistsand Anesthesiologist Assistants.

Course objectives: Upon successful completion of the course, the participant will be able to: 1. Anticipate and manage the difficult airway; 2. Identify and manage the failed airway; 3. Understand the special case of the failed airway in obstetrics and pediatrics; and 4. Perform an awake intubation in the predicted difficult airway.

Accreditation: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the essential areas and policies of the AccreditationCouncil for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorshipof Hospital Physician Partners and Airway Management EducationCenter. Hospital Physician Partners is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Fiberoptic Lung Separation Workshop (Optional)In this pre-course workshop, participants learn and practice lung separation techniques in airway simulators. The Workshop focuses on left and right double lumen tube placement with confirmation of placement and troubleshooting. Use of bronchial blockers andoptions for lung separation in the difficult airway are also covered.Enrollment is limited. Pre-registration is required.
