THE DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF MUCOSITIS AND PERI-IMPLANTITIS NON-SURGICAL / SURGICAL / PROSTHETIC TECHNIQUES Presented by Stuart J. Froum, DDS; Paul S. Rosen, DMD, MS; and Chandur Wadhwani, DDS, MSD Friday, April 27, 2018 - 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm and Saturday, April 28, 2018 - 9 am - 5:30 pm

COURSE OVERVIEWPeri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis are two inflammatory diseases that affect the success and survival of dental implants. Their growing prevalence has become a concern for the patients of any clinician placing and/or restoring implants, as no implant system is immune to these problems. This program is comprised of both a lecture and a hands-on portion that will provide clinicians with cutting-edge in-depth information on the diagnosis, etiologies, prevention, and treatment of peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis. Attendees are encouraged to bring x-rays, photos and scans of peri-implantitis cases that they treated or intend to treat, for discussion or planning, so that they may discuss these with the faculty. Also, attendees will have the opportunity to check their own torque drivers to see if they are currently calibrated.

The second day will consist of a continuation to the lecture along with providing hands-on practice for both the decontamination and the regenerative procedures that are used to treat early, moderate, and advanced peri-implantitis. Participants will work on models that simulate peri-implantitis lesions and the favorable faculty to student ratio will allow participants to learn some of the tips and tricks that the speakers have gained with each having close to two decades of experience. Proper selection and use of graftable materials, biologic agents, and barrier membranes to achieve optimal regenerative outcomes will be gone over in fine detail. In another portion of the hands-on session, several techniques for proper prosthesis cementation will be practiced to eliminate the risk that residual cement could play. These clinical skills that will be practiced in this hands-on course are designed for practical patient care and immediate implementation into one’s clinical practice.

COURSE OBJECTIVES– Learn how to diagnose mucositis and peri-implantitis and classify the

disease from early to moderate to advanced. – Learn/Practice (hands-on) the most effective methods of implant

surface decontamination. – List the risk factors and preventive techniques for mucositis and peri-

implantitis including proper probing force.– Become familiar with/practice (hands-on) with the materials and

techniques that have proven to be successful in rebuilding hard and soft tissue lost as a result of peri-implantitis.

– Learn/practice (hands-on) techniques to cement implant supported restorations while avoiding the problems of excess cement. This will include becoming familiar with angled screw-retained crowns.

– Review monitoring, improved record keeping, and maintenance of successful results.

TARGET GROUPGeneral dentists, Specialists and Implantologists working with dental implants or interested in providing dental implant treatment. No prior dental implant training required.
