c. A possible final general ballot for students who have been in 2 or more creative arts programs in the last 2 years. This ballot will only be run if there are still places available in the program.

2. Please note that a number of places in each Creative Arts Program have been reserved for students who are successful through an audition process to ensure that our students who are gifted and talented in the creative arts have the same opportunity to be extended in their area of talent as students who are gifted in other areas such as academic fields and sport.

3. The lead roles have now been cast through an audition process for the Musical. Congratulations to those who were successful at audition. For those students who were not successful at audition please refer to the selection process outlined above. There are many places still to be filled and expressions of interest notes are now available.

4. Expression of interest notes have gone home this week for the Musical and will go out in the next few weeks for other creative arts programs.

5. Our Creative Arts Groups for 2017 are: a. Choir ( K-2, Stage 2 and Stage 3); b. Recorder; c. School Musical; and d. Back stage group.

Share your story with our students.

The P&C and the school are very interested in hosting regular tell us about your job nights where children can attend and hear about professions and hobbies that may be of interest to them in the future. In our opinion, for learning to be purposeful, children need to understand a little about the many different jobs that are available to them and the connections between these jobs and what they learn at school. If you are happy to share your story with our students please refer to page 12 for more details.

Scripture Program The majority of Scripture and Ethics classes commenced this week. Some classes will begin next week on Wednesday 22 February. Children will be placed in the scripture, non-scripture or Ethics group nominated by you at the time of enrolment dependent on the availability of scripture and Ethics teachers. In the event that a teacher is unavailable your child will attend non- scripture where they will read, complete homework or engage in activities that revise already taught concepts. Students will not be able to change scripture classes without a valid reason being provided by their parent. Unfortunately, due to large student numbers, the sampling of multiple scripture classes throughout the year is not possible in 2017. Please note that Hindu Scripture is not available this term. If you are interested in being a Hindu Scripture teacher, please contact Ashley Grimmond at [email protected]

ICAS If you wish to have your child participate in the 2017 International Competitions and Assessment for Schools (ICAS), an information letter and permission note can be found on pages 8-9 of this newsletter. Permission and payment will need to be returned to the office by Friday 7 April. As a condition of EAA (Education Assessment Australia) no late entries will be accepted.

P&C: www.thedempc.com.au The P&C welcome past and present parents to make contact and be involved in the many events that are planned at the Dem this year. Any parents wishing to be involved by taking a position on this year’s Executive, the AGM will be held on Wednesday 8 March. We strongly recommend parents that come and borrow with their child/ren. Alternatively, if you are unable to make it to the library you can always reserve the books that you want.
