Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Welcome to Week 4 and a special CPS welcome to Miss Laura
Rowston and Miss Kylie Halls from the University of Canberra. Miss
Rowston and Miss Halls have commenced a six-week teaching
practicum at our school and have had a terrific first week getting to
know the staff and students. Miss Halls is working with Mrs Skene and
the students in Guya, while Miss Rowston has joined Mrs Berry and Mrs
Montgomery and will be working with the students in Gilaa. We hope
they both enjoy their time at CPS!
Deepest Condolences
Over the weekend, we were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of
Tom Sharkey, son of our School Learning Support Officer Mrs Lyn Sharkey,
and brother of our Kindergarten teacher Miss Jayne Sharkey. Tom was a
former student and school captain of Cowra Public School, and our entire
school community has been devastated by this tragic event. As we mourn
the loss of someone so young and so well-loved, our love and support go
out to Lyn, Ross, Jayne and Peta and their extended family, at this
incredibly sad time.
GRIP Leadership Conference
On Tuesday, Mrs Johnson accompanied our school leaders to Bathurst for
the GRIP Leadership conference. This conference is held annually and is
aimed specifically at primary school student leaders. Our Year 6’s had a fun-
filled day learning about lots of different leadership skills and discussed some
great ideas that they plan on bringing back to our school. The stop at Annie’s
ice cream parlour on the way home was of course, also a huge hit! A big
thank you to Mrs Kylie Wood who stepped in at late notice to assist with
transport on the day.
CWA Public Speaking
Also, on Tuesday our public speakers; Tom Casey, Holly Fagan, Jock Casey
and Kiaya Blackmore travelled to Orange to participate in the regional CWA
Public Speaking competition and gave their best efforts in what is always a
very tough competition. Well done to all students who participated in both
events and proudly represented our school.
Choir Eisteddfod Update!
Huge congratulations to the Infants and Primary school choirs who performed
last Friday at the Cowra Eisteddfod. There were a few nerves before our
students took to the stage but both choirs performed with great enthusiasm
and skill, each taking out First Place in their section, resulting in Cowra Public
winning the Best Overall School Choir Trophy! Thank you to Miss Noal, Mrs
Oborn, Mrs Gibson and Mrs Eldridge for their work in coaching this year’s choir
groups. Thank you also to the large group of parents and supporters who
came down to cheer on our students. The Cowra Eisteddfod continued this
week with CPS students performing in the Special Needs category on
Wednesday. The students and teachers put in many hours of practice to be

ready to take to the stage and impressed their teachers and families with their talent and skill. Well done to
Bilbi, Budyabudya and Mirri who collected a whopping $235 in prize money for their verse-speaking
performance! I am sure these classes have already thought of lots of ways they can spend their prize
winnings. Next week our dancers will be performing on Thursday while our Band students take to the stage
on 6th June.
PSSA Soccer
Good luck to both our Girls and Boys PSSA Soccer Teams who will come up against Canowindra PS, at
Cowra tomorrow in the first round of the Knockout! All the action will be taking place at the soccer fields at
Edgell Park so why not pop on over and cheer our teams on! Thank you to Miss Dunk for coaching, training
and accompanying our students and go CPS!
Congratulations Mrs Tree!
Congratulations to Mrs Emma Tree and her husband Will, on the birth of their new baby boy Charlie Simon
Tree born on Thursday 16th May 2019. We can’t wait to meet baby Charlie and we wish Emma, Will, Tilly
and Ruby the very best, as they enjoy getting to know the newest addition to their family!
Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal
Each year at CPS, we support the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal. Our annual “RED DAY” will be held
tomorrow. Students are encouraged to come dressed in red and bring in a gold coin for the Red Shield
Appeal. The SRC have some special activities and treats also planned for the day. How wonderful to see
our students giving back to our local community.
Kindergarten 2020
Next Tuesday our Kinder teachers and Mr Murray will be visiting Good Start Pre-school to meet the children
as part of our Kinder 2020 Transition program. At CPS we believe that ‘Every Day is Open Day’ and
prospective parents are more than welcome to contact the office on 63422400 to arrange a personal tour
and see what our wonderful school has to offer.
Week 4 Assemblies
Assemblies are on tomorrow! Primary Assembly will be held from 11:30am-12:30pm and we look forward to
seeing a class item from Miss Noal’s class; Ganyi. Infants Assembly will be held from 2:00-3:00pm and Mrs
