THE DAY THE SUN & MOON STOOD

STILL

The SUN & MOON stood

still ?!?!?

• The whole region heard of Joshua – they were all scared!

• Gibeon came asking to make peace

• They lied: “We come from a very distant land …”

It really did happened for Joshua !

• Joshua did not pray & ask God for guidance

• He believed Gibeon, he made peace with them!

• 5 other kings were very upset

• They attacked Gibeon• This time, Joshua

prayed to God first!

God reassured Joshua:

“Do not fear them, for I have delivered them into your hands. Not

one of them shall remain before you.”

• Afraid, the 5 kings & their armies fled into the forests

• God sent hailstones

• If the sun went down & the night coming, it would be hard to see

• Joshua prayed: “Let the sun stand still over Gibeon, and the moon over the valley of Ajalon”

• So the SUN & MOON stood still for 2 days!• Israel pursued and defeated the 5 kings & their

armies

“The Lord will fight for you, and you shall

hold your peace”

(Exodus 14:14)

1) WHY did God want Joshua to defeat these people in Canaan?

• They were sinners• They did not worship

God but idols• They would make Israel

worship idols too!

2) WHAT did Joshua do wrong the 1st time with Gibeon?

• He did not pray first to ask God for help

3) HOW did Joshua learn from his mistake the 2nd time?

• He prayed first & asked God for help before going to battle the 5 kings

4) WHO made the sun & moon stand still?

• God created them, He made them stand still

• God is the creator of all things, He controls everything in the universe

5) WHO symbolizes the sun in this story?

• Our Lord Jesus Christ• He will “rise” and shine

in our hearts if we love Him & obey His commandments
