When operating a once-a-day milking system the right genetics are key to success. It’s important to breed cows suitable for once a day milking.

Our once-a-day selection index ranks sires on their suitability to OAD in order to increase production, feed efficiency and the cows ability to last in a once-a-day system.

CRV Ambreed offers short gestation (SG) dairy and beef to create greater value offspring and to give your cows more days in milk. That means more milk in the vat, more money in your pocket, AND a valuable AB calf too.

As with all traits the mating will result in half of the sires BV transferred, so when looking at a sires Gestation Length breeding value eg (-10) you will experience half (-5) for the number of days reduced for your mating.

DAIRYShort Gestation Dairy is a good option to bring your calving dates forward. Short Gestation Dairy is available in all breeds with bulls as low as -11 days saving you up to 6 days.

BEEFBreed beef-cross calves that you can sell to the beef market. The gestation length of beef breeds are on average four to five days longer than dairy sires. However Short Gestation Hereford and Angus brings the calving date in line with dairy sires.

FACIAL ECZEMA TOLERANCEWe all want healthier cows and improving the herds’ genetic tolerance offers the best protection against Facial Eczema (FE) as well as reducing the risk of poor production. The daughters of our FE-tolerant bulls are 25-30% less reactive to a facial eczema challenge than the average bull.

According to a recent study led by Veterinary Enterprises Group (VetEnt) Research, facial eczema could be costing

dairy farmers more than $100,000 a year in lost milk production. Not only is the disease costly in dollar terms, but it is also devastating for animal health.

Exclusively from CRV, FE tolerant sires used in your breeding programme is an environmentally friendly and safe way to help increase your herd’s tolerance to FE challenges, resulting in healthier cows and improved production.

POLLED CALVESCRV now offers a team of local and overseas homozygous polled bulls for both dairy and beef. Homozygous (PP) polled bulls guarantee the birth of polled calves, meaning the progeny of polled bulls will not need disbudding. This saves time and expense, and improves animal welfare with less stress on the calf.

When a bull has two copies of the polled gene (ie homozygous) you are guaranteed the bulls progeny will all be polled, as all will get one copy of the polled gene. Conversely bulls with only one copy of the polled gene (ie heterozygous) does not guarantee polled progeny, but there is a 50% chance of progeny being polled.

LowN Sires® is potentially a powerful aid assisting farmers to reduce their environmental footprint.

Our LowN Sires® team is selected for their low Milk Urea Nitrogen breeding value, as well as being great for a range of important traits, making them the ideal all round team.

Exclusively from CRV, LowN Sires® used in your breeding programme is an environmentally friendly and safe way to help decrease milk urea nitrogen, resulting in lower concentrations of nitrogen in cows’ urine.

    Reduce Milk Urea Nitrogen

    Reduce Nitrogen

    excreted in Urine

    Reduce Nitrogen leached

THE PATHWAYMilk Urea Nitrogen (MUN) is closely linked to Urinary Nitrogen (UN). We can reduce MUN through genetics.

Breeding with LowN Sires® will reduce Milk

Urea Nitrogen concentration in their progeny.

International work shows that if Milk Urea

    Nitrogen concentration is reduced, then

the amount of Nitrogen excreted in urine is

    reduced.

If the amount of Nitrogen excreted in urine

is reduced, then the amount of Nitrogen

leached into the groundwater and waterways

    is reduced.
