AdhesiveAltro TrowelEasy 19 Plus is the only recommended

adhesive. Altro only approves the adhesives

recommended here; always follow detailed

application and usage instructions on data

sheet or as supplied with the adhesive. For more

detailed information please see page 5.

GroovingA 3mm groove must be cut evenly along each

floor joint (except internal/external mitres) using

a hand or automatic rotary grooving tool. Use of

the special Altro automatic grooving blades is

recommended as standard blades are quickly

destroyed when used on safety flooring.

Forming a hot welded jointAfter cutting in and adhering the sheet vinyl

flooring, all joints must be hot welded with Altro

Weldrod™, using a hot air welding gun fitted

with a 5mm high speed welding nozzle. Internal

and external mitres should be hot welded. After

a long period of use, the filter of the welding

gun may become clogged with debris. This

must be kept clear to reach the optimum weld

temperature. Where possible, allow 12 hours

between laying and welding, to ensure the

adhesive is properly set.

WeldingThe internal and external mitres on the coved

sections should be welded first. Turn the speed

nozzle at the end of the welding gun to the up

position for easier starting. Once the mitres are

finished, turn the nozzle to the down position to

hot weld the grooved floor joints.

FinishingOnce the weld has cooled and set, trim the weld

with the most appropriate tool such as a spatula

fitted with a spatula guide or sledge. Then, using

the spatula only, trim the weld flush with the surface

of the flooring material. For external mitres use the

square router blade and for internal mitres the

round router blade. For details on equipment and

tools, refer to Altro’s Recommended Equipment

and Tools data sheet.

Seam Grooving

• All seams in Altro Safety Flooring must be

grooved prior to heat welding.

A 3mm wide groove must be cut evenly

along each joint.

• Due to the metal particles and quartz

crystals in the Altro Flooring, do not use standard hand or electric grooving tools. Fit a diamond- cutting blade to

electric grooving tool if required for use.

Eye protection should be worn.

• Do not attempt to groove seams in

Altro Flooring until the adhesive has set.

Minimum 24 hours.

• Do not attempt to groove seams by ‘free hand’. Always use a straight edge as a

guide.

• Seam grooving by hand shall be

accomplished using the Altro grooving tool and the grooving blade. One

grooving blade with 4 cutting edges will

groove approximately 20 l/m. Change

grooving blades regularly.

• Align centre of grooving blade to exact

centre in Altro Flooring seam.

Grooving tool shall be held at the

correct angle (of approximately 45°)

to ensure optimum cutting of required

groove.

• The Altro hand groover must be used

by pulling along the centre of the seam

guided by the straight edge.

• The depth of the groove shall be to a

minimum of ½ to maximum of 2/3 of the thickness of the Altro Flooring.

Transition with Clamping Drain

For locations where the drainage of liquid spillages from floors is a necessity and a watertight seal must be formed with the drain. For clamping ring type gullies* which have been installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. The sheet vinyl flooring must be dressed down and adhered with a water resistant adhesive into the drain outlet and be secured by the clamping ring. *For example those manufactured by Wade International, Tel 01787 475151; Fax 01787 475579; e-mail [email protected].

Gully Angle

For locations where sheet vinyl flooring must be finished flush to an existing gulley channel or to act as a transition strip to another floor surface and form a water tight seal.

Did you know?

Altro safety flooring can be

installed over wood and

many other types of flexible

subfloor including metal walk-

in coolers, whereas ceramic

tiles would crack or debond

Altro: the modern alternative to tiles

With the range of colour from Altro Whiterock White and Altro Whiterock Satins, you can have the colour range choices that tiles provide, without the worry of contamination.

As a result, businesses can enjoy reduced long-term maintenance costs, with a significantly reduced risk of contamination or, should the worst happen – an incidence of food poisoning occur – possible litigation or even closure. All this makes it perfect for use in any catering area.

Altro Whiterock can even be installed over existing tiles

Transition with other floor surfaces

For locations where sheet vinyl flooring must be

finished to another floor surface with a water

tight seal. A Visedge VR vinyl securing strip*

should be installed along the transition. The sheet

vinyl flooring is fixed down then cut in, grooved

and hot welded to the PVC insert within the

Visedge system.

Properties

TrowelEasy Plus is a solvent and water-free,

two-part polyurethane adhesive supplied in the

correct quantities for mixing. Both A and B parts

are held within the container.

Supplied in 3kg, and 6kg units.

Subfloors and site conditions - must conform

with AS 1884-2012

TrowEleasy Plus can be used on dry, dust-free

subfloors such as sand/cement, granolite,

plywood, chipboard, hardboard, metal and

epoxy surfaces, damp- proof membranes and

power float concrete. It is important that the

subfloor is as smooth as possible, any undulation

may cause pockets of adhesive to form bubbles

in the floor covering.

Mixing of parts A and B

Part A is a viscous paste. Part B is a fluid

liquid supplied in silver foil sachets. Stir part A

thoroughly. Transfer part B into large container

holding part A and mix thoroughly until a

uniform consistency is obtained throughout.

A drill with a paddle attachment should be

used to ensure complete mixing. Scrape sides

thoroughly during this process. Care should be

taken to avoid spillage when mixing, as staining

of the floor surface may occur.

Application

Apply adhesive to subfloor only, as soon as

possible before adhesive thickens (within 15-20

minutes of mixing, depending on temperature).

Spread evenly with a notched trowel. It is

important to use a small notched trowel to avoid

entrapment of air between the floor covering

and subfloor. Place covering into wet adhesive,

do not roll, and expel all trapped air with the use

of a flat wooden or Perspex trowel, wrapped in a

soft textile material which has been pre-wetted.

Limit trafficking of the floorcovering when the

adhesive is still fresh. If any corners, joints or edges

are lifting while the adhesive is setting, these must

be weighted. Leave weight undisturbed and the

floor covering traffic free until the adhesive has

set. Where this procedure is not followed, special

care should be taken to check all joints etc,

before leaving site for the day.

Health & safety

TrowelEasy Plus component B is hazardous if

inhaled. It also may irritate the skin, the eyes

and the respiratory apparatus, and may cause

allergic reactions in those subjects predisposed.

While preparing and applying the product, we

recommend protecting the throat and lungs, and

the use of protective gloves and goggles.
