CHURCH STAFF Welcome New CUMC Staff:

Kevin M. Sweeney Church Administrator

Kevin, his wife Brieann and their five children, K.J.(10), Brady(8), Connor(8), Reilly(7) and Bennett(2) currently reside in Carmel, IN

Kevin was born and raised in Indianapolis, gradu-ating from Brebeuf High School and Marian Univer-

sity. He has most recently been the church business manager for St. Mark Catholic Church for the past 13 years, on the south side of In-dy. Prior to St. Mark’s he was a Director of Gang Intervention in Indi-anapolis, Unit Director, and Executive Director with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. Kevin has also been a girl’s high school bas-ketball coach, winning a state championship at Brebeuf High School, and the head coach at Lawrence North and Bishop Chatard High School with a state runner up in 2008. In his free time, Kevin enjoys being with his family and attending the many events his boys are involved with including Interactive Academy Gymnastics and Carmel Swim Club.

Nicole Todd Preschool Administrative Coordinator

Nicole has recently accepted the position as the new Preschool Administrative Coordinator. Ni-cole will be filling the shoes of Sandy Phillips, who will be retiring at the end of May. Nicole and her husband Brad, along with their three chil-dren, Justin, Brandon, and Samantha have been

members of CUMC since 1998. Nicole has been immersed in serv-ing CUMC including: VBS, Missions (Comfort Closet), and Youth Bible Studies. Nicole and her family reside in Carmel.

Lindsey Conn Video Tech

Lindsey has been working on the tech team in the Stream for quite some time, and we are excited to bring her expertise to the Sanctu-ary.

Veronica Bigham Video Tech

Veronica is a proud graduate of North Central High School and is continuing her education at IUPUI majoring in Communication Studies. You probably have already noticed her during the third Sunday services, dancing in the middle of the sanctuary,

while she is also directing the Sanctuary Bells as the Assistant Hand-bell Director at Carmel United Methodist Church. Veronica also works part-time as Receptionist/Dispatcher for a road construction company. Veronica enjoys attending and being involved within the CUMC family, her hobbies include playing Handbells, scrapbooking, and spending time with family and friends.

A sweet friendship refreshes the soul …

Proverbs 27:9 Make new friends, and say hello to old friends in our women month-ly circles.

Lydia Circle

Join the Lydia Circle, Tuesday, April 7th at 6:30 PM in the church Gathering Place to learn about the joint effort of the Indiana Women’s Prison and members of United Methodist Women who have formed the monthly prison ministry called “United Methodist Women – Women Inside”. Phyllis Newton and Susan Bennett will discuss the goals, activities and help needed for this unique ministry. Please contact cherylbourgea @gmail.com to RSVP.

Dinner Belles

Dinner Belles will meet April 14 at Dooley O’Toole’s at 6:15 PM. Everyone is welcome to attend. Please call the host-ess, Sandy Cary, at 844-5421, to make a reservation if you are not currently on a calling list.

Ruth Anna

The ladies of Ruth Anna circle will meet on Tuesday, April 14 in the church gathering space at 9:30 AM. We invite guests and new members to join us for a time of fellowship, devotions and a presentation by Pastor Mike Collins. Call Katie Kessler at 846-9785 for more information.

We are beginning a prayer shawl ministry at CUMC!

Do you like to knit or crochet? Would you like to learn some basic stitches? Your skills can be used to bring comfort and encouragement to people experiencing difficult circumstances. Come to an organizational meeting at 9:30AM on Friday, April 24 as we begin a prayer shawl ministry at CUMC. Questions or suggestions may be directed to Jenny An-drews at 989-0586 or Katie Kessler at 846-9785.

Community Center needs support …

Brightwood Community Center is in great need of several people to come once a month or a few times and cook a meal at 4:30 in the afternoon. The cooks must bring a meal or cook it for 25 and that includes children and a few adults. Keeping it simple and nutritious is the most important thing. If you have a calling to feed hungry children, please call Susan Barrett at 317-506-5488.

Angel Gowns

The May program for the Lydia Circle meeting will feature the founders of the non-profit organization “Angel Gowns”. They will talk on Tuesday, May 5th at 6:30 PM at the church Gathering Place about donating your wedding dress or prom gowns to be made into in-fant burial dresses. Cinnamon rolls fundraiser

Friday May 8th the United Methodist Women will be making their "world famous" cinnamon rolls.

Enjoying delicious rolls made with natural ingredients, and benefit women in need around the world. Please be watching the bulletin for more information.

There are a number of youth small groups to get connected in and grow in your faith including groups for Jr. High Boys & Girls, as well as High School Boys and Girls. Contact Kevin Andrews for more infor-mation!

YOUTH MINISTRY

During the summer months we are going to slow things down a bit and encourage youth to connect with their parents and our church through several opportunities for faith growth like:

Attending a Sunday school Bible study class

1. Jack King's Class is gladly welcoming Youth starting on April 12 for a 4 week study going from Easter to Pentecost (the Holy Spirit coming)

2. The Cornerstone class is excited to have youth join them for a 12 week study called "Why I Believe" that helps us understand the reasoning behind our faith

Worship with your family in the Sanctuary or in the Stream Volunteering to be a leader in our Kids Summer Sunday School

About the Mission Trip #SERVE2015 NSHVLL:

Why: Mark 10:45 “The son of man came not to be served, but to serve and give his life…”

We want to live as Jesus lives, through a life of service to our neighbor.

What: Meet needs in the international and low-income communities in Nashville, TN.

Our capacity has expanded to serve the needs of the elderly, disabled, refugee and immi-

grant communities, pre-school, elementary school, adult-illiterate, at-risk youth, and low-

income families.

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY

Vacation Bible School decorating and work sessions begin soon! This year's theme is Mt Everest, where kids learn about conquering challenges with God's mighty power. There are 5 different Biblical stories taught through song, crafts, science projects, interactive participation, games and snacks. We can only accept 300 participants for our week of fun and learning: June 21-25, 6pm.

VBS REGISTRATION OPEN NOW!!!!

Summer Camps: Do you have a special hobby, interest or job that you think kids would like to learn about? Are you interested in leading a summer camp for kids? (you will be compensated) CUMC offers camps for kids, 4 years old to 5th grade, for varying subjects, all Biblically based in the month of July. Please contact: [email protected] if interested!

Grow for God, our annual family mission project will begin May 3. Take a plant or seeds

home to grow produce for the food pantry. Plants and seeds will be located in the Gathering

Our last day of regular Sunday School is May 17, please be thinking of how you would like to help this sum-

mer for Summer Sunday School, May 24 through August 9! This year we will be creating a biblical village

and your kids will be participating in learning about the times that Jesus walked this earth! Each Sunday

will be a new lesson and we need you to volunteer to help one Sunday per child, thank you!

We cannot do Vacation Bible School without your help! Please be on the lookout for donation stations of

items that we will need for this awesome program!

we will begin all kids in the Sanctuary and then be dismissed to their class-

rooms! Join the celebration of our Children at CUMC!

While kids are enjoying the movie, parents will participate in a VBS work session (this is not a drop off event!).

April Mission of the Month: Mission - Guatemala! The loose change offering collected each Sunday, will benefit missions in Guatemala. A CUMC mission team will be going to Guatemala this summer to spread the word of Jesus Christ, through helping build schools, repairs on homes, and fellowship with local residents.

All donations now go to the Donation Center in the Mission House. Open 24/7/365, you will find clearly-marked shelves for your donations.

Mission Accomplished: During the month of March, 271 families visited the Food Pantry, serving 28 new fami-lies. The Food Pantry helped feed 983 people last month.

MISSIONS

Volunteers Needed to Help distribute food for the Gleaner’s Days! Time commitment: noon-3:30pm Contact Mike Podgorski if you’re available!

Starting the weekend of April 25 thru May 2nd and if necessary May 2nd thru May 9th, there is to be a work detail doing extensive renovation on the 4 car garage, building a handicap accessible walkway, tile work off site, and finishing touches on the Mission House exterior doors and storage area at CUMC. The mission men will be leading the way.

Any volunteer support will be appreciated in all these projects, including providing lunches. Contact Rick Chandler with your availability!

The CUMC Sanctuary Bells have been requested for the third year now to participate in:

The City Of Carmel’s Holocaust Ceremony.

WHEN: Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at Noon

WHERE: The ceremony will be held at The Monon Center, (Performance Room) off Rangeline Road side.

We feel very honored to have the bells involved, and playing three requested pieces this year. One of those pieces being the Bells signature piece, “Light of Peace”, written and composed by our own Assistant Handbell Director, Veronica Bigham and Derek Hakes. We hope everyone can come and support us.
