dedicated to those who have died and have not yet reached heaven.

ADORATION 12- 6:00pm

Set clocks back one hour before bedtime Saturday.

BALANCE

Today’s scriptures emphasize the fundamental link between love of God and love of our neighbors,

especially those who are most in need. Love of God should compel us to love the people whom

God cherishes. Conversely, work for justice and charity for those in need should be rooted in our

love of God. That connection and balance, however, isn’t always easy to maintain in our lives.

Even in religious orders we find that some Christians are more oriented toward contemplation and

prayer, while others are more active in reaching out to those who are oppressed. Today Jesus

reminds us of the necessity for both in the life of faith. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — You shall not oppress an alien, for you yourselves were once aliens in Egypt (Exodus 22:20-26). Psalm — I love you, Lord, my strength (Psalm 18). Second Reading — You became imitators of the Lord, so that you became a model for all believers (1 Thessalonians 1:5c-10). Gospel — You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, and you shall love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:34-40).

Q. What is the judgment called which all men

have to undergo on the last day?

A. The judgment which all men have to

undergo on the last day is called the

General Judgment. “General” because every creature gifted with intelligence will be judged on that day—angels from Heaven, devils of Hell, all men, women, children; all will be equal. The good will be separated from the wicked. Sins committed will be made public. Which side will you be sent? It is not enough to be better for the future—you must try also to make up for what was neglected in the past.

Q. Why does Christ judge men immediately after death?

Let Saints put you on the right path Cardinal Virtues are four virtues the Church has

identified that will help us get to Heaven.

Temperance teaches moderation and self-

discipline. St. Therese of Liseieux got everything she

wanted as a child; through temperance, she gave

up her selfish ways and put her trust in Jesus.

Justice teaches us to respect the rights of others. In

Columbia, St. Peter Claver used to meet ships

burdened with people to be sold as slaves. He

brought food and medicine and assured them of

their dignity and God’s love; baptized 300,000 slaves.

Fortitude gives us courage to do what is right despite

difficult circumstances. St. Gianna Beretta Molla was

a pediatrician and mother. When she became ill

while pregnant, she refused to end her unborn

child’s life even though it meant her certain death.

Prudence is making the right choice to do good.

St. Joseph, husband of Mary. He followed the

instructions of the angel and married Mary.
